Chapter 97: The Little Liar Who Says One Thing and Means Another
Ean Yichen suddenly moved closer, one hand braced on the sofa. His thin lips lifted slightly, and his cool voice carried a hint of mockery.
“Are you worried about me, or about Fluffy?”
His sudden nearness made Meng Yier instinctively lean back a little. She reached out to press against his solid chest, stopping him from coming any closer.
“What are you doing? Of course I’m worried about Fluffy. It’s with you, and I don’t feel at ease.”
She truly was uneasy.
On the way back, Meng Yier suddenly remembered Fluffy. Mo Bei must have left the cat with him.
He was allergic to cats.
Thinking of that, Meng Yier grew worried, wanting only to keep him away from Fluffy and prevent an allergic reaction.
When she got home and knocked, no one answered. Only then did she realize that the key to his place had been left behind at his home when she fled in panic.
“You little liar.”
The words were spoken very softly, in a tone that seemed almost teasing, and they made Meng Yier’s heart tremble gently.
She had never known that such a simple phrase could sound so pleasant when spoken by someone.
“...”
Meng Yier frowned, looking at Ean Yichen, who was so close she could feel him, her delicate face flushing pink.
Ean Yichen watched her growing flustered because of his nearness, and tiny flickers of laughter rose in his deep, dark eyes.
Feeling his gaze, Meng Yier’s heart began to race wildly, and even her delicate pale ears turned slightly red.
Your face is so red.
Ean Yichen suddenly let out a soft laugh. His cool voice, laced with a hint of huskiness, spread slowly through the unusually quiet room.
“I...” Meng Yier was both shy and annoyed, and her pretty face turned bright red.
This man was definitely doing it on purpose.
The smile in Ean Yichen’s eyes deepened.
“Embarrassed?”
Meng Yier lowered her eyes, her gaze falling to the hand she had pressed against his chest.
“No, I’m not... Don’t be so full of yourself.”
Ean Yichen gave a low laugh. His thin lips curved into a beautiful arc, the faint ripples of that smile stirring the heart. His voice was low and sensual, seducing her trembling heart.
“You say one thing, but mean another, little liar.”
Meng Yier looked up and met his black eyes, where amusement was mingled with a trace of mockery.
“...”
A wave of frustration rose in Meng Yier’s heart.
Was this guy getting addicted to teasing her?
And yet, she was becoming less and less able to resist him.
What was she supposed to do?
With a sudden shove of the hand against his chest, Meng Yier pushed hard. Caught off guard, Ean Yichen stumbled back a step, and she seized the chance to escape his restraint.
She glanced toward the floor-to-ceiling window, where Fluffy was curled lazily on a cushion, sleeping soundly.
“It’s late. I’m going home.”
Meng Yier walked over, bent down, and gently stroked Fluffy’s back twice. Then she lifted the cat into her arms, speaking softly as she murmured, “Fluffy, sister is taking you home.”
Half asleep, Fluffy lazily opened his eyes, glanced at Meng Yier, meowed twice, then nestled back into her arms and closed his eyes again, calm and content.
Watching her hold Fluffy and stroke him so tenderly, Ean Yichen frowned, a mysterious glimmer flashing through his dark eyes.
Damn it.
He was actually wildly jealous of a cat.
“Meng Yier...”
Meng Yier was about to leave with Fluffy in her arms when, as she reached the doorway, she was suddenly stopped by Ean Yichen’s pleasant voice.
She turned back and looked at him, puzzled by his hesitation.
“Mm?”
Ean Yichen pressed his lips together. After a moment’s hesitation, he finally spoke.
“Good night.”
