Chapter 95: The Origin of the Brooch
Yan Yichen’s dark eyes narrowed slightly, and a suffocating aura of danger radiated from him.
“Threatening me?”
With Ke Sen’s influence in the entertainment world, destroying him might not be difficult.
But Yan Yichen was no lamb to be slaughtered. Over the years, acting and singing had become little more than hobbies for him.
He was now one of the youngest major shareholders in the Hua family’s history, and he also had stakes in two other film and television companies, wielding considerable influence in the entertainment industry.
He also had a place in real estate and finance.
He simply kept a low profile, so few people knew any of this.
Even within the country, his influence could not be underestimated.
Ke Sen smiled faintly and shook his head.
“I wouldn’t dare.”
Yan Yichen released Ke Sen’s collar and sat back down, though his black eyes remained fixed on him, fury still simmering within them.
“I’ve long heard that Mr. Yan is not only an excellent actor and singer, but also thriving in the entertainment industry, with a powerful family behind him. Judging by the way you carry yourself, it seems those rumors are true after all.”
“That’s not something Director Ke needs to concern himself with.”
Ke Sen’s gaze settled on his dark eyes. Their eyes met, both filled with hostility. In that instant, they were locked in open confrontation, neither willing to yield.
After a long silence, Yan Yichen rose to his feet. His cool voice held not the slightest warmth. “Director Ke, she will always be my woman. If you don’t believe me, we can wait and see.”
With that, he strode away on long, straight legs.
Ke Sen watched his departing figure, that unshakable confidence radiating from his back, and frowned.
Remembering how Meng Yier had rejected his impulsive closeness just now, Ke Sen felt a faint unease stir in his heart.
After a moment of thought, he took out his phone and made a call.
“Mr. Ke, what can I do for you?”
The voice on the other end was polite and respectful; it was his personal assistant, Lin Qing.
“Find out what the relationship is between Yan Yichen and Miss Meng.”
Ke Sen got straight to the point. His voice was gentle and pleasant, but the command in it was impossible to refuse.
“Yes, Mr. Ke.”
Ke Sen ended the call and let out a soft sigh. From the inner pocket of his suit, he took out a small, exquisite jewelry box.
After staring at it in thought for a long while, he opened the box and took out a sparkling brooch.
This brooch was the very one Meng Yier had found when they first met.
Ke Sen stared dazedly at the brooch in his hand, a complicated light gathering in his eyes.
“Bai Jie, are you well in that other world?”
This brooch was the keepsake Bai Jie had given him as a token of their love.
His memory returned to seven years ago, when Bai Jie left Shanghai alone for the United States to study abroad. Fate brought her and Ke Sen together, and they came to know one another.
Ke Sen’s mother was an exceedingly gentle and kind Oriental woman. Perhaps because he had been influenced by her since childhood, he fell at first sight for Bai Jie, who was as gentle and kind as his mother.
The two young people were perfectly matched in heart and mind, and soon fell into a mad, passionate love. His affection for Bai Jie ran so deep that even he found it frightening; in those years, Bai Jie almost entirely filled his life.
Not long after graduating from university, Bai Jie became pregnant with Ke Sen’s child. With the unanimous approval of both families, they became engaged.
But fate is cruel. On the very day the sweethearts, overjoyed, went to register their marriage, a truck collided with their car, and Bai Jie, four months pregnant, left him just like that.
The sweet days the three of them were meant to share had never truly begun, and so they came to an abrupt and hasty end.
