But this time was different.

They were both fully awake.

He had kissed her without offering any explanation. Did he think she was some casual woman?

At the thought of that, Meng Yier’s face remained expressionless. She pressed both hands against Yan Yichen’s chest, trying to push him away, but he had no intention of letting go.

“Let go of me!”

Meng Yier’s irritation rose.

“No. This isn’t clear yet.”

“There’s no need. I already understand everything in my heart...”

“What exactly do you understand?”

Meng Yier’s eyes suddenly darkened, her voice turning cool.

“We’re both adults. It was just a moment of impulse. Don’t worry, I won’t make you take responsibility for me. Besides, it was only a kiss. I wouldn’t care.”

Only a kiss.

She wouldn’t care!

What kind of words were those?

She had been kissed by him, and yet she was this unconcerned?

An inexplicable surge of heat rose in Yan Yichen’s chest, and he frowned.

Then he realized her tone was clearly one of anger.

His little girl was upset.

Was it because she had not received the answer she wanted?

Yan Yichen’s lips curved slightly, amusement threading through his hoarse voice.

“But I need you to take responsibility for me. There are plenty of women who covet me, yet you’re the one who took advantage. Tell me, what should we do about that?”

Meng Yier was furious. “You—”

Who had taken advantage of whom?

He was the one who got the better of things and still acted innocent.

Yan Yichen suddenly dropped the teasing and said with utter seriousness, “Meng Yier, listen carefully. I kissed you not for any other reason, but because I like you.”

“You like me?”

Meng Yier came back to herself in a daze and looked at him in disbelief.

“I like you.”

Yan Yichen’s deep, seductive voice carried unwavering certainty.

He liked her.

He truly liked her.

Only then did she suddenly realize that upon hearing him say he liked her, something warm seemed to flow through her heart, tender and sweet.

Meng Yier stared blankly into the man’s dark, deep eyes, the sincerity and fervor within them laid bare before her.

After a brief hesitation, she frowned slightly. “But we’ve only known each other for a few days.”

“Fool. Falling for someone can happen in an instant. A few days is more than enough.”

Yan Yichen smiled, though a trace of bitterness lingered in his heart.

How could it be only a few days?

It had already been sixteen full years.

For sixteen years, not a single day had passed without him remembering her.

And she knew nothing at all.

“But I...”

Meng Yier panicked, her gaze flickering as she avoided his expectant eyes.

Was this a confession?

Seeing her flustered and uncertain, Yan Yichen’s eyes gradually dimmed.

He knew he had pushed too hard.

“Liking you is my own business. You don’t have to feel troubled. Even if you don’t like me now, one day I will make you fall in love with me.”

When Yan Yichen spoke again, his tone was gentle, yet it carried a dominance and confidence impossible to ignore.

Meng Yier froze slightly. Looking into his black eyes, she had not expected this man’s confession to be laced even with such a wild, aloof arrogance.

After a long while, she gave a bitter smile.

“Why are you so confident?”

Yan Yichen suddenly grew calm. Lowering his gaze, he looked at her for a long while before asking, “Why were you angry just now?”

Meng Yier’s voice stiffened slightly.

“I wasn’t angry!”

A soft chuckle suddenly sounded beside her ear.

“You were angry just now. You were angry because I kissed you and gave no explanation.”

Meng Yier looked at him in confusion.

“Meng Yier, you already have me in your heart... which is why I’m so confident.”
