Meng Yier opened her eyes to find Yan Yichen’s handsome face inches from hers, and for a moment, she nearly forgot to breathe.

She hesitated, then spoke softly, “Mr. Yan, I—I know it was wrong of me to lie to you, but Mingxin asked me to come with her. I was worried that if I told you the truth, that I was here for the banquet, you wouldn’t agree, so I lied.”

Yan Yichen said nothing, simply gazing at her flickering eyes with calm indifference.

Seeing his lack of reaction, Meng Yier looked into his eyes, flashed a mischievous smile, and tried again, “No matter what, I was wrong to lie. You’re such an important person, surely you won’t hold it against me, right?”

Yan Yichen smiled, a captivating and almost wicked curve to his lips. “But, Miss Meng, I happen to be quite petty.”

Petty? As if you needed to say it—I already know you’re a stingy man.

Meng Yier clenched her teeth in frustration. “You—”

Her anger seemed to amuse him; his usually cold and impassive face now lit up with genuine happiness. After a few seconds, he suddenly released her, stepped back, and turned toward the banquet hall.

Meng Yier wandered aimlessly down the empty corridor, unwilling to enter the lively banquet hall. She always felt out of place in crowds, and she certainly didn’t want to face Yan Yichen, that annoying man.

The thought made her more upset. She stopped by a window, staring blankly at the street outside.

A faint “ding” interrupted her thoughts. She looked down to see something bright roll to a stop at her feet.

She bent to pick it up, discovering it was a delicate silver-gray brooch—its design simple, just a small circle engraved with English letters.

Whose brooch could this be?

Meng Yier looked around in confusion. The corridor was empty, except for a man ahead, walking toward the banquet hall.

“Hey, sir, please wait—” Meng Yier hurried after him.

The man stopped, looking back at her uncertainly. “Miss, can I help you?”

His gaze lingered on her for a split second, a brief flicker of nervousness in his expression, but it quickly vanished, replaced by a courteous smile.

Seeing his face clearly, Meng Yier couldn’t help but marvel. What a handsome man.

Just a glance, and she felt her breath stolen away. He was tall and upright, his features striking, with gemstone-like blue eyes—bright as stars, mesmerizing and radiant, his smile warm and dazzling.

Meng Yier hesitated, then offered her hand. “Sir, is this yours?”

The man recognized the item in her palm, his face lighting up with delight. He nodded gently and took it from her.

“Yes, it’s mine. Thank you, miss. This is very important to me—if I’d lost it…” He lowered his gaze, paused, then looked up and smiled. “Anyway, I owe you.”

Meng Yier smiled politely. “No need to thank me. I’m glad you found it.”

The man nodded, his eyes lingering on Meng Yier’s face for a moment longer before he turned and entered the banquet hall.

About five minutes later, Meng Yier’s phone rang in her purse—it was a call from Yu Mingxin.

Meng Yier knew she’d been gone a while. She hung up Yu Mingxin’s call, gathered her courage, and finally stepped back into the banquet hall. Yu Mingxin hurried over, anxious.

“Xiao Yi, where have you been? You were gone so long! I looked everywhere for you.”

“Sorry, Mingxin—”

“It’s fine, Xiao Yi, come on, look, do you see who that is?” Excitement bubbled in Yu Mingxin’s voice.

Meng Yier followed her gaze and instantly recognized the man she’d met in the corridor.

“It’s him—”

Yu Mingxin waved her hand in front of Meng Yier’s dazed face, laughing. “What’s wrong? Stunned? Seeing your idol, you’re not going to freeze up, are you?”

Meng Yier snapped out of it, grabbed Yu Mingxin’s hand, and said excitedly, “My idol? You mean—he’s Kersen?”

“Of course! He’s your idol, the genius director Kersen.”

Handsome! Mixed heritage! Looks to be in his thirties!

Yes, it had to be Kersen!

Though no photos of him could be found online, and information was scarce, these features matched perfectly.
