Chapter 158: First Visit to the Yan Family (Part 4)
"It sounds simple, but the journey in between is quite arduous. However, as long as your heart is set on it, it's merely a matter of time."
Meng Yi'er nodded thoughtfully.
After that, the two chatted for a while longer until fatigue began to show on the old matriarch's face.
Seeing this, Meng Yi'er moved to stand up and take her leave, but the old lady stubbornly refused to let her go.
"How does Grandma know?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Yan Yichen gave a helpless, wry shake of his head.
He didn't even need to ask to know that Aunt Yun must have told his grandmother. Those two elderly ladies were far too invested in his personal life, acting with a zeal even more exaggerated than that of his most hardcore fans.
He was long since accustomed to it.
"Alright... I understand."
Before Aunt Yun could speak again, Yan Yichen answered calmly.
Upon second thought, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing for his grandmother to know. Since she was the woman he had chosen for himself, it was only natural to introduce her to his dearest grandmother.
Seeing that the young master wasn't angry, Aunt Yun finally let out a sigh of relief. She smiled and said,
"Yichen, there's some milk on the table. Drink it before you go to bed, and Aunt Yun will turn in for the night."
Yan Yichen watched as Aunt Yun scurried away like a wisp of smoke. He paused for a moment before shaking his head with a faint smile.

Meng Yi'er had just stepped out of the bathroom after a shower and was busy drying her hair when her phone suddenly rang.
She walked over to the bed and picked up her phone; the call was from Gu Yunchen.
Meng Yi'er hesitated for a few moments before finally pressing the answer button.
Over the past few days, she hadn't quite dared to take calls from Gu Yunchen. Deep down, she genuinely wanted to tell him about her relationship with Yan Yichen and share the joy of her newfound romance, especially since Gu Yunchen was the person closest to her.
Yet, every single time she intended to tell him, hesitation held her back. She worried he would object, just as he always did whenever a young man pursued her—he would invariably raise objections and try to keep them apart.
"Brother—"
"Are you asleep yet?"
Gu Yunchen's voice on the other end of the line was deep and resonant, carrying his usual tone of calm detachment.
"Not yet..."
"How have you been?"
"Mm, I'm doing great. I found a job, and it's been very fulfilling."
"Why did you go looking for a job? Is the money I give you not enough to spend?"
Meng Yi'er hurriedly shook her head. "Of course not. I just wanted to have something to do, and I think this is rather nice."
How could it possibly not be enough? Every time he deposited money into her account, it was in the millions. She wasn't like ordinary daughters of wealthy families who harbored a passion for luxury goods.
"Xiao Yi, are you... really not planning to come back?"
Meng Yi'er froze slightly. She hadn't really pondered this question. The only reason she had returned in the first place was to cling to a sliver of hope that she might find her biological mother. If she truly failed to find her, she would eventually return to the United States and reunite with the Gu family.
Yet, circumstances had changed now; she had fallen in love with Yan Yichen, and she neither wanted to look that far ahead nor cared to think about it.
"I... I don't know."
"How can you bear to leave us behind?"
"Brother, please don't pressure me. You know how I—"
"Are you still set on looking for your mother?"
How could he possibly not know what was on her mind? Even if she didn't voice it aloud, he understood her true intentions in insisting on returning to the country.
It was precisely because he understood everything that he had ultimately let her go.
Once this matter reached its conclusion, or once she grew disheartened, she would inevitably return to his side with peace of mind.
"Mm..."
"I'll help you look."
"Really? Brother, what you just said... is it true? Are you really willing to help me?"
Meng Yi'er was so overwhelmed with excitement that her words tumbled out in a jumbled mess.
