Chapter 143: Yan Yichen's Secret (2)
Yan Yichen ruffled her fuzzy hair and smiled with doting affection.
"I forgive you..."
His tone shifted as he added, "However, this is the only time you get to make a mistake like this with me. If it happens again, I will not be so lenient."
Meng Yi'er giggled, her slender arms tightening around his waist.
"How did Grandma find out?"
The moment the words left his lips, Yan Yichen shook his head in resignation. He didn't need to ask; it had to be Aunt Yun who told her. Those two elderly women were more interested in his private life than even his most obsessive fans. He had long since grown accustomed to it.
"Fine... I understand."
Before Aunt Yun could even speak, Yan Yichen gave a calm reply. Thinking about it, there was nothing wrong with his grandmother knowing. She was the woman he had chosen, so naturally, she should meet his dearest grandmother.
Seeing that the young master was not angry, Aunt Yun finally breathed a sigh of relief. She smiled and said, "Yichen, there is milk on the table. Drink it before you go to sleep. I’m going to rest now."
Yan Yichen watched Aunt Yun scurry away, paused for a moment, and then shook his head with a smile.
...
Meng Yi'er had just stepped out of the bathroom after a shower and was drying her hair when her phone suddenly rang.
She walked to the bedside and picked it up; it was a call from Gu Yunchen.
Meng Yi'er hesitated for a moment before pressing the answer button. For the past two days, she hadn't dared to answer Gu Yunchen's calls. Deep down, she wanted to tell him about her relationship with Yan Yichen and share her happiness, as Gu Yunchen was the person closest to her. Yet, every time she intended to tell him, she wavered, fearing he would object—just as he had done every time before when she was pursued by others. He would disapprove and try to keep them apart.
"Brother—"
"Are you asleep?"
Gu Yunchen’s voice on the other end was low and rich, carrying his usual air of detachment.
"No..."
"Are you doing well?"
"Yes, I’m doing quite well. I’ve found a job, and it’s very fulfilling."
"Why do you need to work? Is the money I give you not enough?"
Meng Yi'er quickly shook her head. "Of course not. I just wanted something to do; I think this is quite good."
How could it not be enough? Every time he transferred money to her account, it was in the millions, and she wasn't like other wealthy socialites who loved buying luxury goods.
"Are you... really not planning on coming back?"
Meng Yi'er froze for a moment.
She straightened up, made a show of patting her bag, and said sternly, "You... you are so unreasonable. Pay attention to your boundaries in the future and know your place."
Immediately after, she glanced at Yan Yichen, her face transforming into a bright, gentle smile as she said, "It has already realized its mistake; please show mercy, Your Majesty."
Watching her sycophantic, fawning expression, Yan Yichen’s lips curved upward as he shook his head helplessly. She always knew how to ignite his temper and just as easily extinguish it; it seemed he truly was at her mercy for the rest of his life.
Seeing the gloom on Yan Yichen’s face replaced by a smile, Meng Yi'er’s grin widened. She sighed inwardly, wondering if having such a boyfriend was a blessing or a curse.
Yan Yichen dropped Meng Yi'er off at the entrance of her office building before leaving.
...
In the afternoon, while Meng Yi'er was working, Ouyang Xi sashayed over with a serpentine gait and sat down beside her, casting a cold, indifferent glance in her direction.
Meng Yi'er lifted her eyes in confusion, looking at Ouyang Xi’s heavily made-up, icy face.
"Miss Ouyang, is something the matter?"
