Chapter 123: Childish Fellow
"What's wrong?"
"Something isn't right. How did you even know about Kosen proposing to me? I never told you, so how could you possibly know?"
Yan Yichen faltered slightly. He hadn't expected the young woman to suddenly circle back to this. His temples throbbed, and his deep, obsidian eyes swirled with hidden meaning as he scrambled for an excuse to brush it off.
"About that..."
Meng Yi'er furrowed her brows, her gaze fixed on him with a trace of suspicion.
"Did you go to see Kosen?"
Yan Yichen was caught off guard by how quickly she had guessed the truth. A brief look of surprise crossed his face, but realizing she already knew, he decided to be honest.
"I did go to see him. It was he who told me he had proposed to you."
Meng Yi'er froze, a flicker of irritation crossing her lovely face.
She did not like being interfered with. Even by Yan Yichen, the man she liked. Perhaps it was because she had been controlled so much by Gu Yunchen since childhood, losing so much of her freedom; the more that happened, the more she wanted to rebel. That feeling was like being suffocated in a cage.
"You really went to see Kosen? What did you say to him?"
Yan Yichen frowned. "I told him you are my woman, and I won't allow him to have any designs on you."
Meng Yi'er was choked with anger. "Yan Yichen... how can you be so childish?"
Childish?!
This girl actually called him childish. Yan Yichen’s dark eyes turned colder.
"I'm childish?"
"Yes... extremely childish. You big baby, stay out of my business from now on."
Meng Yi'er pulled away from his embrace and walked off without looking back.
Yan Yichen stared blankly at her retreating figure. Despite her slender and fragile appearance, she possessed an undeniable, stubborn, and haughty air. He frowned, feeling a pang of regret; it seemed inappropriate to have made her angry on their first day.
...
The next morning.
Meng Yi'er woke up early. Perhaps because she had finally sorted out her feelings, she felt much lighter. She had slept soundly through the night and woke up to find it was already dawn.
Thinking about her first day at work, Meng Yi'er felt a sense of excitement. She spent a long time getting ready, applying a light, appropriate makeup and choosing a professional yet stylish outfit, hoping to make a good impression on her superiors.
As she left, she glanced at the closed door next door. She took out her phone, intending to send Yan Yichen a message to let him know she was heading to work. But remembering their argument the night before, she frowned, tucked the phone back into her bag, and walked out.
Meng Yi'er arrived at Starmedia Entertainment on time. She followed the instructions to complete her onboarding at the HR department, and a colleague then led her to the director's office.
The colleague told her that their director was named Ye Zimei—a highly capable and beautiful woman known for her swift, decisive actions and for being strictly professional. She was also notoriously uncompromising with her subordinates.
When Meng Yi'er entered, Ye Zimei was leaning against her desk, reading through some documents with intense focus.
"Director Ye... hello. I am the new stylist... Meng Yi'er."
Upon hearing her introduction, Ye Zimei’s sharp gaze swept over Meng Yi'er before returning to the documents in her hand. The indifference in that look caught Meng Yi'er off guard.
A moment later, Ye Zimei signed the papers, tossed them casually onto the desk, and turned to sit in her chair. She looked up, surveying Meng Yi'er from head to toe, her slender eyes as cold and sharp as a blade.
