Chapter 76

Ye Fengyun looked up at the maid. Her face flushed deep red with shame, but her eyes blazed with anger.

“You’re not well,” Ye Fengyun remarked.

“You’re the one who’s not well!” the maid couldn’t stand it any longer and snapped back.

Ye Fengyun continued, “Do you wake up from nightmares every night, your heart pounding, hands and feet icy cold, sweating in your sleep—is that right?”

The maid was taken aback and asked in surprise, “How did you know?”

Ye Fengyun didn’t answer her, but instead asked, “Do you know why this is happening to you?”

“The doctor said I’m anemic,” the maid replied.

Ye Fengyun shook his head with a slight smile. “This isn’t simply anemia.”

“It’s not?” the maid asked, puzzled.

“If it really were anemia, tell me, did your condition improve after taking medication?” Ye Fengyun pressed.

The maid hesitated for a moment before she answered, “No.”

“That means your condition was misdiagnosed,” Ye Fengyun concluded.

No longer concerned about being offended, the maid hastily pressed him, “Then what’s really wrong with me?”

Just as Ye Fengyun was about to reply, the door swung open and a middle-aged man strode in.

He was tall and powerfully built, exuding a commanding presence with every step. His entire bearing was imbued with an air of martial valor.

The moment Ye Fengyun saw him, his brow furrowed. How could a man so imposing and heroic have a trace of darkness lurking in his gaze? Could he be practicing some sinister martial art?

Yun Mengxi made introductions. “This is the head of our family.”

The man smiled at Ye Fengyun. “I am Yun Lanzong, master of the Yun family.”

Ye Fengyun studied him for a moment, his own manner hardly polite. “Ye Fengyun.”

Yun Mengxi frowned. This fellow really was lacking in manners.

Yun Lanzong said, “I heard from Mengxi that you spent a great deal of money to acquire the Thousand Mechanisms Stone. You must also practice martial arts and appreciate its value.”

He observed Ye Fengyun, but could sense nothing of his cultivation.

Inwardly, Yun Lanzong thought: He must be just a novice. I can’t even sense the slightest martial aura from him; what a waste it would be to give the Thousand Mechanisms Stone to someone like this.

Yet he didn’t realize that it wasn’t that Ye Fengyun’s cultivation was shallow—it was that the gap between them was so vast, Yun Lanzong simply couldn’t perceive Ye Fengyun’s level at all.

“The Thousand Mechanisms Stone is very important to me as well,” Ye Fengyun replied.

Yun Lanzong kept a smile on his face, but inwardly he was full of disdain: A half-baked youth who hasn’t even begun refining his external strength, what use could he have for such a treasure? What a waste.

“Young man, what will it take for you to give us the Thousand Mechanisms Stone? Name your terms,” Yun Lanzong said.

Ye Fengyun lounged on the sofa, crossing his legs as though he were at home.

The more Yun Mengxi watched him, the more she disliked him, wishing she could throw him out on the spot. Men who vied for her favor always went out of their way to be courteous, but Ye Fengyun showed not the slightest deference, behaving as he pleased and treating everyone as if they were beneath his notice. Were it not for the Thousand Mechanisms Stone in his hands, Yun Mengxi would have already taken action herself—she was skilled in martial arts, after all.

Ye Fengyun made himself comfortable, half reclining on the sofa. He picked up a grape, popped it into his mouth, and casually spat the seed aside.

Yun Lanzong’s brow twitched, but he forced himself to remain composed.

“You want the Thousand Mechanisms Stone? It’s simple—spar with me. If you win, I’ll give it to you. If you lose, you must grant me one request,” Ye Fengyun said.

Yun Lanzong was momentarily stunned, nearly bursting into laughter.

“You want to spar with me?” he managed, holding back his mirth.

Ye Fengyun nodded. “Of course.”

Yun Lanzong shook his head and let out a laugh. “Ha! Young man, I won’t fight you. There’s simply no comparison between us.”
