Chapter 131
"Yes, alright. Are you free now? I'll come to pick you up."
"Alright."
Ye Fengyun accepted Elder Yun's invitation. After giving Tang Shihan a brief explanation, he headed downstairs to wait for him.
Elder Yun arrived promptly. Ye Fengyun got into the car, and the two headed toward the Xu family’s grand villa.
This was not Ye Fengyun's first visit to the Xu villa. The scenery was beautiful and the environment pleasant—an excellent place for cultivation. Ye Fengyun recalled that Elder Xu's eldest son, Xu Dahai, had once wagered a villa against him, a debt he had yet to settle. Ye Fengyun had been quite busy lately and hadn't found the time to collect, but since he was back at the Xu estate, it was the perfect opportunity to make him honor his promise.
The car climbed the mountain and came to a stop before the villa gates. A group of servants came out to welcome Elder Yun and Ye Fengyun, and the group entered the villa together.
In the main hall, Ye Fengyun was surprised to see the butler of the Lin family present, pushing Elder Xu to meet them.
"Why are you here?" Ye Fengyun asked the Lin family butler. "This is the Xu residence, not the Lin residence."
Elder Xu smiled and explained, "The Matriarch of the Lin family and I are old acquaintances. This butler has come here to foster the relationship between our two families."
Ye Fengyun remained silent, but inwardly, he began to wonder. Everyone knew that the Four Great Families had no such thing as "old acquaintances"; everything was dictated by mutual interest. Thus, the claim of fostering a relationship between the two families was utter nonsense.
Just as Ye Fengyun was feeling perplexed, Elder Xu spoke up. "The reason I invited you both here today is actually for my daughter’s illness."
Ye Fengyun suddenly interjected, "And what about your own condition? I recall you suffered a relapse just last night, didn't you?"
Elder Xu laughed. "My condition has already improved, thanks to Butler Lin."
Ye Fengyun looked toward the Lin butler. The butler wore a benevolent smile as he said, "I have served the Lin Matriarch for many years and have acquired some slight knowledge of medicine."
"Besides, it wasn't a serious ailment, so Butler Lin was able to treat it for me," Elder Xu added.
Ye Fengyun found this increasingly strange. It was illogical to invite him over for help if it wasn't a serious illness.
"Then what is your daughter suffering from? Is it something Butler Lin cannot treat?" Ye Fengyun asked.
The butler sighed. "To my shame, my knowledge is limited; I simply cannot fathom the nature of the young lady's illness."
Elder Yun also chimed in, "I have examined her as well, but I could not find the root cause, which is why I asked you to come and take a look."
Ye Fengyun narrowed his eyes. "Then lead the way. Oh, and don't forget—you previously promised me a villa."
Elder Xu nodded with a smile. "That goes without saying. The transfer paperwork is already complete, and the property deed is here. As long as you cure my daughter, the villa and your consultation fee will be provided in full."
Ye Fengyun nodded and followed them to Xu Meijiao's room. For some reason, he felt as though he were walking into a tiger's den. With his strength, he feared no one individually, but open arrows are easy to dodge while hidden ones are hard to guard against. Ye Fengyun had a very bad premonition.
Everything about this felt eerie. From the moment he stepped into the villa, that inexplicable sense of strangeness had not faded. Ye Fengyun couldn't pinpoint the problem, but he felt deeply unsettled.
Arriving at the door to the room, the group stopped and made way for him. Ye Fengyun looked up at the door to Xu Meijiao's room; it felt as if something bizarre was hidden behind it, exuding a strange aura.
"Mr. Ye, please."
The Lin butler still wore that benevolent smile, yet it seemed to grow increasingly strange and distorted. Ye Fengyun glanced at the others; they all wore the same smile—the same benevolence, the same strangeness, and the same distortion.
