Chapter 121
Chapter 121
He attempted to use dark magic to control the elderly matriarch, but not only did he fail, he was instead backfired upon. It was the black dog’s blood mixed with glutinous rice that the matriarch had consumed that caused this. It seemed that Eastern mysticism still held some power against Western sorcery.
No matter how the butler knocked, the door would not open; even inserting the key proved useless.
Ye Fengyun stepped forward and patted the butler’s shoulder. “It’s blocked by evil energy; you can’t open it.”
The butler looked at Ye Fengyun in surprise. “Evil energy? What kind of evil energy?”
“You’ll understand soon enough.”
Ye Fengyun pushed past him and struck the door with a fist.
The door let out a pained wail as a strange shadow flickered across its surface before vanishing immediately. Without showing any emotion, Ye Fengyun delivered a second punch. Inside, Yun Lianzong’s body trembled, and he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Unhurried, Ye Fengyun raised his fist for a third strike.
“Bang!”
The doorframe shattered, and a surge of black mist rushed out, engulfing both Ye Fengyun and the butler in an instant.
When the mist cleared, the two found themselves in an unfamiliar place—a dilapidated church. A massive cross stood before them, and behind it, enormous stained glass windows lay broken and shattered like a coffin lid. On the cross hung a bronze figure of Jesus, bound and contorted in agony.
Suddenly, a flash of lightning illuminated the church, casting an even more sinister atmosphere.
The butler panicked, glancing around wildly. “Mr. Ye, what’s going on? Where are we? Weren’t we just at the Lin family villa? How did we end up here?”
Ye Fengyun said nothing. At that moment, he heard a noise behind him. Turning around, he saw that the entire church was filled with coffins, and the sound was emanating from within one of them.
“Bang!”
The lid of a coffin was thrown open, and one zombie after another crawled out, their movements grotesque and terrifying.
The butler crouched down in fear and scrambled behind Ye Fengyun.
Unfazed, Ye Fengyun stepped forward. Facing the oncoming zombies, he neither dodged nor retreated. Instead, he reached out toward empty space, and as if time had paused, the scene froze.
Then, as if glass had shattered, the moment dissolved, and Ye Fengyun’s seemingly casual grasp clamped down precisely on Yun Lianzong’s throat—the same man who had attempted to ambush him.
It was all an illusion, a mere trick of the mind.
The surroundings returned to normal. Ye Fengyun lifted Yun Lianzong up, while the elderly matriarch on the bed remained unconscious.
“I have questions for you. Tell the truth and you’ll live. Dare to lie and you will—”
Before he could finish, Yun Lianzong’s eyes rolled back, foam frothing at his lips as his body convulsed violently.
“He’s poisoned himself!”
Ye Fengyun immediately clutched his throat, trying to extract the toxin.
But the poison had already taken effect; Ye Fengyun was too late.
He hurriedly laid Yun Lianzong down and drew out a silver needle, intending to purge the poison from his body. However, the surrounding evil spirits, as if maddened, swarmed to obstruct him.
Though Ye Fengyun fought them off one by one, having missed the optimal moment to save him, Yun Lianzong was already dead.
Gazing at the motionless, stiffened body, Ye Fengyun, furious, punched the wall.
He had wanted to learn the connection between Yun Lianzong and the arsonist from years ago, but Yun Lianzong had denied him that chance.
Why was Yun Lianzong so desperate to die? Was it merely to withhold the secret about the arsonist, or was there something deeper at play?
Before the thought could fully form, the wail of sirens blared outside the villa, red and blue flashing lights illuminating the night.
