Chapter Thirty: Hoping Father Heeds Advice
“How am I planning things?”
“I’ll cultivate until I reach the Treasure Body realm, find a Dao companion, and open a few small shops in Cloud Beast City.” Xu Chen lifted his gaze to the sky, suddenly feeling that this wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
“Xu, I think you’ll eventually join the Vanguard Army of the human race, accumulate military merits to exchange for pills that can change your constitution,” Niu Dali said. “In the end, you’ll achieve fame and glory, becoming a supreme lord of a continent.”
Niu Dali looked at Xu Chen in surprise—this outcome was far from what he had imagined.
“It’s not so easy to change one’s constitution.”
As he spoke, Xu Chen suddenly froze. He wondered if his father was currently accumulating military merit, exchanging them for pills to change his son’s constitution.
With this thought, Xu Chen hurriedly stood up and walked toward home.
“Niu, I just remembered there’s something I need to take care of. I’ll head back first.”
Upon arriving home, Xu Chen immediately started writing a letter.
The message was simple: Father, your son has his own fate. There’s no need to accumulate military merit to exchange pills for changing my constitution.
After a celestial crane carried his letter away, disappearing beyond the horizon, Xu Chen finally felt at ease.
“Hope Father heeds my advice.”
After dinner, Xu Chen entered the Holy White Space and, without hesitation, pushed open the wooden door of the Apothecary.
Following a bout of hard work, he eventually collapsed into sleep, his spirit exhausted and his body tingling.
Yet even so, Xu Chen felt this was easier than defeating the Saint Ape Six Forms.
Upon waking at dawn, Xu Chen’s first task was to begin concocting Hemostatic Powder.
Before long, a batch of high-quality Hemostatic Powder appeared.
“Not bad—progress is always good.”
“Once I master Hemostatic Powder, I’ll move straight to Seven Wounds Ointment. After taking it, one can burn vitality to greatly enhance their strength.” Xu Chen’s eyes gleamed.
His purpose in learning pharmacy was to create those instant-strengthening medicines inside the Holy White Space, so he could defeat the avatar of the Saint Ape Six Forms ahead of schedule.
He had already tested it—the Hemostatic Powder made behind the wooden door could be brought to the main hall of the Holy White Space.
Xu Chen then used the morning to quickly produce more Hemostatic Powder.
At that moment, the disciple token in his storage pouch rang.
“Another task.” Xu Chen frowned slightly.
Although tasks had rewards, he disliked wasting time on them.
He took out the disciple token, and a message appeared in his mind.
Outside the sect, on the plaza, Xu Chen’s expression was full of resistance.
This time, the task was to serve as a nurse at the plaza outside Lethal Prefecture’s capital.
They were to care for injured disciples of the Great Creek Sect who would be transported from the Trial Realm, for a duration of two months.
A spiritual vessel, over fifty yards long and bearing the Great Creek Sect’s insignia, landed before them.
“Let’s go. There’s no avoiding it, after all.”
Xu Chen and several dozen other disciples boarded the spiritual vessel.
The vessel took off, streaking across the sky at a speed Xu Chen could barely comprehend.
“Disciples, please find a place to rest. We’ll arrive at Lethal Prefecture’s capital in ten hours.”
Xu Chen found an empty room on board, locked the formation on the door, and entered the Holy White Space.
“It’s been days since I checked on the Saint Ape Six Forms.” He said, pushing open its grand door.
“Oh, I thought you’d given up cultivation, you little weakling.” The avatar sneered at Xu Chen.
“I missed my grandson, so I came to see you.”
Xu Chen rushed at the avatar, and the battle began. He skillfully exchanged moves, but at the eighty-second strike, the avatar caught his flaw and punched him straight in the head.
His consciousness reformed within the Holy White Space.
“I’ll come back after my strength improves. For now, let’s grind pharmacy.”
After months of study, Xu Chen discovered that some top-tier pharmacy recipes rivaled spirit pills in effect.
Inside the Pharmacy room, Xu Chen carefully processed all kinds of medicinal ingredients.
“Whether pharmacy or alchemy, they’re just auxiliary. Cultivation is the true path.”
He finished twenty batches of Hemostatic Powder, with the highest grade reaching only seventy-three.
“Still, that’s improvement.”
Xu Chen looked up at the sky of the Holy White Space. Suddenly, a thunderbolt as thick as a bucket struck down, vaporizing him instantly.
After three bolts, Xu Chen resumed making Hemostatic Powder.
Ten hours later, the spiritual vessel landed in a massive plaza.
“Disciples assigned to the task, please disembark.”
A disciple at the Treasure Body realm was already waiting.
Xu Chen and forty-nine others stepped off the vessel and formed a line.
“Fellow disciples, this task is very simple. Just guard the Trial Realm’s teleportation exit on the plaza and escort injured brothers back to camp.”
“Each day, ten disciples need to stand guard; the rest may rest in camp.” The Treasure Body disciple smiled.
“Why call so many of us, then?” One asked, voicing Xu Chen’s doubt.
“Sometimes, you’ll need to accompany me into the Trial Realm to recover the bodies of unfortunate disciples,” the Treasure Body disciple chuckled.
“Don’t worry—you’ll be perfectly safe.”
Seeing the disciples’ faces change slightly, the Treasure Body disciple added another reassurance.
The vast plaza was divided into six sections, with the two central teleportation gates surrounded at the center.
The five major sects each occupied a section; the remainder was for smaller sects.
The Treasure Body disciple led them back to camp, assigning each a room.
“Don’t leave the plaza when you’re not on duty. Otherwise, do as you please.”
Xu Chen returned to his assigned room, feeling somewhat depressed as he lay on his bed.
“Looks like I’ll have to cultivate in the Holy White Space for a while,” Xu Chen sighed.
The two grand teleportation gates—one led to the Trial Realm entrance, the other was its exit.
Xu Chen now guarded the exit, watching disciples from various sects emerge one after another.
Just then, a man with his legs severed suddenly flew out of the teleportation exit, wearing the Great Creek Sect’s robes.
Xu Chen and several others rushed over, Xu Chen sprinkling Hemostatic Powder on the wounds at maximum speed.
Other disciples took out life-saving pills and stuffed them into the man’s mouth.
These items were distributed to those on duty.
“I’ll take him back,”
A disciple placed the legless man on a small cart and quickly pushed him toward camp.
“If he can recover his legs, that’d be better. If not, and he can’t afford a Bone and Flesh Revival Pill, he’s likely crippled,” one disciple lamented.
“Maybe the sect will intervene,” another said.
Just as Xu Chen was about to speak, a Treasure Body disciple from the Great Creek Sect hurried over.
“You, you, you, you, and you—come with me into the Trial Realm to recover bodies.”
Xu Chen happened to be among those chosen.
“Ah, ants, fellow Daoists, seniors, let’s take it slow,” Xu Chen sighed, following the Treasure Body disciple.
The lower-level Trial Realm contained only Blood Qi realm aliens.
A flying boat landed in a heap of chaotic mountains, where several bodies in Great Creek Sect robes lay, their internal organs hollowed out.
“Shame we can’t strike back, or I’d slaughter every one of those bastards!”
