Chapter 28: My Loyal Brother Lin Ming
On the other side.
Inside the Martial Alliance conference room.
Seeing Zheng Yuan return injured, Alliance Leader Hong Jinlong and several core members were all startled.
“How did you get hurt?” Hong Jinlong asked.
He had only instructed Zheng Yuan to observe discreetly. How did he end up looking like he’d been beaten?
Clutching his face, Zheng Yuan replied, “Alliance Leader, the King of Southeast is dead.”
With those words, the entire conference room fell silent.
“What did you say? The King of Southeast is dead?” Hong Jinlong asked in disbelief.
Zheng Yuan nodded. “Yes, he was killed by Su Yifan.”
That simple sentence plunged everyone present into shock once more.
The King of Southeast was dead! And at the hands of that young man from the Su family?
“Zheng Yuan, you can’t joke about something like this,” Hong Jinlong said, his face serious.
Seeing their expressions of disbelief, Zheng Yuan decided to recount the entire incident.
As he spoke, Hong Jinlong and the others’ faces changed several times.
When they finally heard that the King of Southeast truly was dead, their eyes widened.
How could this be possible?
The King of Southeast was a master in the late Grandmaster stage, with few rivals in Yun City. Even fewer could kill him so easily!
Could that Su family boy really be so formidable?
“I wanted to intervene at the time, but Su Yifan ignored me and killed the King of Southeast right before my eyes,” Zheng Yuan recalled, still fearful.
If he had acted then, he might already be dead.
“That kid is practically rebelling against heaven, daring to kill even the King of Southeast!” Hong Jinlong looked at Zheng Yuan’s injuries and asked, “Then your wounds, are they...?”
Zheng Yuan remained silent. As a core member of the Martial Alliance and a strong Martial Artist himself, he wouldn’t admit to something so humiliating.
Hong Jinlong and the others, seeing his silence, guessed the truth.
Suddenly, Hong Jinlong’s expression changed. He shouted angrily, “No, this kid had the audacity to openly kill the King of Southeast. I have to bring him to justice!”
“Alliance Leader, don’t act rashly!” Zheng Yuan said anxiously.
Su Yifan had warned that anyone causing trouble for the Su family would die.
Having witnessed Su Yifan’s decisiveness and ruthlessness, Zheng Yuan couldn’t let the Alliance Leader risk himself.
“Don’t stop me. I want to see if he’s really as powerful as you say,” Hong Jinlong scoffed.
Though he and the King of Southeast were both late Grandmasters, Hong Jinlong felt he was stronger. Perhaps Su Yifan had used some trick to defeat the King of Southeast.
Zheng Yuan hurriedly spoke, “Alliance Leader, please don’t go. That kid is truly strong.”
He looked to the other Alliance members for support.
The Vice Leader quickly said, “Alliance Leader, since Zheng Yuan says so, it seems that Su family boy is indeed not easy to deal with.”
“He’s not easy to deal with, but am I? As the Alliance Leader of the Martial Alliance, would I fear a mere youngster?” Hong Jinlong said coldly.
The Martial Alliance’s duty was to handle incidents caused by martial artists. To sit idly by would invite accusations of incompetence.
“Alliance Leader, calm down,” a member interjected. “Actually, there’s no need for us to intervene. Someone else will handle it.”
“What do you mean?” Hong Jinlong asked, looking at the member.
“Alliance Leader, have you forgotten whose subordinate the King of Southeast was?” The member replied with a half-smile.
Hong Jinlong’s eyes widened in sudden understanding. “You mean the God of War, Ye Wushuang?”
At the mention of Ye Wushuang, everyone in the room showed fear.
Who was Ye Wushuang? One of the five Gods of War in Daxia.
Currently, Daxia had five Gods of War, four guarding the nation’s four corners—east, south, west, and north—and one stationed in Dragon City.
Ye Wushuang was the God of War responsible for guarding the east.
Just then, another core member spoke up. “And Alliance Leader, don’t forget the King of Southeast’s identity.”
“Identity?” Hong Jinlong pondered.
A moment later, his gaze sharpened. “Now that you mention it, the King of Southeast shares Ye Wushuang’s surname. He’s Ye Wushuang’s younger brother.”
“Now that the King of Southeast has been killed, whether out of duty or brotherly affection, Ye Wushuang will not stand by.”
“Exactly,” the member continued. “Since that Su family boy is so arrogant, why not let the God of War Ye Wushuang deal with him? We can just sit back and watch.”
Hong Jinlong nodded. “Good, let’s do that. Su Yifan, I’ll see how long your arrogance lasts.”
Seeing the Alliance Leader’s plan, Zheng Yuan felt uneasy for reasons he couldn’t explain.
But thinking of Ye Wushuang’s strength, some of his anxiety faded.
...
The next day.
As usual, Su Yifan rose early to practice the ‘Hongmeng Violet Qi Technique.’
After two hours, his cultivation ended.
He left the house.
He hadn’t properly explored Yun City since returning, so he decided to stroll around today.
Driving, Su Yifan made his way to the city center, and without realizing it, stopped in front of a club called “Heaven on Earth.”
Just then—
Bang!
His car shook.
He’d been rear-ended.
Before Su Yifan could get out to check, a figure approached from behind.
Moments later, the figure reached his window—a young man about Su Yifan’s age.
Bang bang bang!
The youth knocked hard three times on the window, stepped back, and gestured, “Do you even know how to drive? Get out!”
Su Yifan caught a strong whiff of alcohol from him.
Without thinking much, Su Yifan opened the door and got out.
As soon as he did, the young man cursed angrily, “Can’t you drive, kid?”
“I can’t drive?” Su Yifan replied with a cold laugh.
He didn’t have a license, but cars were simple enough—once he understood their mechanics, his quick learning ability made driving effortless.
Seeing Su Yifan’s meek tone, the youth grew more arrogant. “If you can’t drive, don’t! You’re lucky to run into me today—otherwise, you’d be in real trouble.”
Su Yifan couldn’t help but laugh. “It was you who hit me, and you don’t even apologize. Now you’re lecturing me?”
“So what if I lecture you?”
“I’ll beat you up, kid!”
The youth raised his hand to strike Su Yifan.
Seeing such unreasonable behavior, Su Yifan’s temper flared.
If politeness didn’t work, he’d make him listen by force.
Just as he was about to teach the youth a lesson—
Suddenly!
Su Yifan realized the young man looked familiar. He paused, then asked,
“Are you Lin Ming?”
The youth froze at hearing his name, his raised hand stopping mid-air. “You know me?”
Confirming the man was his high school buddy, Su Yifan threw a punch at the youth’s chest, laughing, “So it really is you, you rascal.”
Hearing such familiarity and seeing Su Yifan act so close, the youth squinted, “Who are you? Do I know you?”
“You dare call yourself ‘boss’ in front of your Brother Fan?” Su Yifan said with a sidelong glance.
“Brother Fan?” The youth was stunned, then laughed, “Don’t think I’ll let you off just for talking like that.”
“I’ll tell you, I only had one brother, but he disappeared five years ago.”
Hearing this, Su Yifan was even more certain—the young man before him was Lin Ming, the friend with whom he’d once shared even his pants.
He hadn’t expected Lin Ming to remember him all these years, which warmed his heart.
