Chapter Seventy-Six: Indirect Intent
"You know about Wang Yuluo’s affairs outside?" In fact, when Ning Shuyi discovered that Yang Huishu was scheming to arrange a horror movie for Wang Yuluo at a private cinema near the "Truth or Dare Fall in Love Adventure Club," she was almost certain that Yang Huishu had some knowledge of Wang Yuluo’s little secret.
Given their relationship, it was clear this information hadn’t come from Wang Yuluo’s own voluntary sharing.
By now, Yang Huishu seemed to have no intention of hiding anything further. When Ning Shuyi questioned her, she nodded directly in acknowledgment.
"Yes, I know! At first, I just felt there was something off about her. When she first joined the club, she wasn’t so lively—she was a bit reserved, didn’t open up much.
But later, things changed! Sometimes she seemed normal, but at certain events, she’d get so excited, like those characters in movies who are high on something!"
Yang Huishu spoke with a look of disdain. "I just felt something wasn’t right. If she has some special habit, ruins herself, her family, and their money, that’s their business, not ours. But we have such a good club—I don’t want her dragging us down.
Not long after, I happened to run into her while shopping. She was acting mysterious, so I followed her discreetly and found her going to some members-only club that outsiders can’t enter.
I waited outside for a while, and soon she came out, looking so happy she could almost float away!
That’s when I knew something was wrong. Kids from rich families like hers are always frequenting questionable places and dabbling in things they shouldn’t touch!"
"So you planned to invite her to ‘watch a movie’?" Ning Shuyi was somewhat shocked by Yang Huishu’s obsessive views and resentment.
"Exactly!" Yang Huishu held her head high. "Inviting someone to a movie isn’t illegal, is it? Inviting someone to a horror movie isn’t illegal, is it?
Inviting someone to a horror movie and doing a good deed without leaving a name—still not illegal, right?
I just anonymously sent her two tickets, and chose a location near that mysterious club—surely that’s not illegal, either?
If she’s touched things she shouldn’t, that’s Wang Yuluo’s own affair. If, after touching those things, she goes to a horror movie, it’s not anyone else forcing her. If something happens, it’s not anyone else’s fault—it’s all her own doing!"
"So, just because of a minor conflict between you two—not even a real conflict, just you feeling Wang Yuluo blocked your path—you chose to use this as a pretext, to harm her by someone else’s hand?" Ning Shuyi truly couldn’t comprehend Yang Huishu’s reasoning.
Perhaps Ning Shuyi had described the impact Wang Yuluo caused too lightly, for Yang Huishu, who had been so self-righteous, suddenly grew furious.
"‘Just because’?! Isn’t that enough?!" Her voice rose sharply. "Do you have any idea how much I’ve sacrificed to get to where I am in this circle?
Others might do it for beauty, or as a hobby, and solve all their equipment needs easily with money. But me?! I treat this as my career! I learned tailoring myself just to make clothes, then had to learn crafts! I need not only skill, but to make myself look beautiful—they love that otherworldly look!
I worked so hard to please those people, hoping to attract more attention and keep progressing. Now I finally see some results, I’m a step closer to success, and then Wang Yuluo appears!
She doesn’t even try—just spends her family’s money, wanders around, eats and drinks well, and attracts a bunch of snobbish online fans who bash me!
I struggled to this point, and one misstep could ruin everything because of her—how can you call that ‘just because’?!"
"So you orchestrated all this, hoping Wang Yuluo would die suddenly from fright during the horror movie?" Ning Shuyi didn’t argue further, but pressed her again.
Yang Huishu’s eyelids flickered, her lips moved, and a trace of hesitation crossed her face, caught between admission and denial.
In the end, she chose to be forthright: "Yes, I was just taking a gamble. I don’t know what Wang Yuluo’s been messing with, but she knows. I booked the tickets there—if she can resist temptation, nothing happens; if she can’t… then it’s up to fate!
I’ve only heard others say that for those people, once they touch those things, it’s not only a physical addiction but a psychological one. When the craving hits, they can’t withstand even a bit of temptation!
It’s all hearsay, but now the result speaks for itself. Looks like those rumors are true."
"Yang Huishu, did you continue your studies after graduating high school?" Ning Shuyi suddenly asked another question.
Yang Huishu was caught off guard, paused, and shook her head.
"Do you read books, newspapers, or follow the news? Or have you ever paid attention to legal education?"
She shook her head again, muttering, "I don’t have time for that…"
Ning Shuyi sighed. "Intentional homicide, from a subjective standpoint, is divided into two types: direct intent and indirect intent.
Direct intent is when you hate Wang Yuluo and kill her yourself.
Indirect intent is when you hate Wang Yuluo, but don’t kill her directly—instead, knowing that a certain action could lead to her death, you deliberately guide her to do it, resulting in her death.
You knew Wang Yuluo might encounter banned substances in that area, and that, after exposure, strong stimulation could lead to sudden death. You deliberately booked tickets, led Wang Yuluo to that horror movie, and secretly hoped she’d die as a result—that’s indirect intentional homicide. You can’t escape the law’s punishment!"
Yang Huishu probably never imagined such a legal provision even in her dreams. Her face turned deathly pale, her eyes nearly bulging out: "Are you trying to trick me?! Did Wang Yuluo’s rich family bribe you to frame me?!"
"You can throw mud at us with your words, but we need solid evidence to convict you." Ning Shuyi sighed. "Everyone must answer for their actions—you should have understood this before scheming against Wang Yuluo."
