Good and Evil Chapter 92: The Tragic Death of a Girlfriend, An Inexplicable Conversation
Since ancient times, it has been understood that once a person dies, they cannot be brought back to life.
On this particular day, Jin Enpei entered Xu Lang’s office wearing a troubled expression, clutching a file folder and a phone.
Xu Lang sat behind his desk, one hand holding a slowly burning cigarette, the other resting on the mouse. His face was expressionless as he stared at the computer screen. Displayed on the desktop were several photographs—images of a female corpse dismembered into pieces. The body was none other than Xu Lang’s sister, Xu Chan.
Over the past ten years, Xu Lang had looked at these photos countless times, hoping to glean some clue, some hint that might lead to the perpetrator. Yet, after a decade, the murderer who killed Xu Chan remained at large.
Jin Enpei stopped at the desk, noticing Xu Lang lost in thought, staring blankly at the screen. She didn’t immediately speak. After standing quietly for a while and seeing no response, she cautiously glanced at the display. Just one look nearly made her gasp aloud, but she held back, withdrawing her head nervously.
Jin Enpei’s heart churned wildly at the sight of those images, even though she dared only a brief glance. The woman in the photos was strikingly beautiful, bearing a strong resemblance to Xu Lang—especially those phoenix eyes, almost a mirror image of his. Fear mingled with curiosity within her as she wondered about the woman’s connection to Xu Lang, though she dared not ask.
Suddenly, a faint sizzling sound caught her attention. Wrinkling her nose, Jin Enpei detected the acrid smell of burning flesh. She looked at the cigarette in Xu Lang’s hand and saw the ember had burned down to a short stub, touching the skin of his finger. The sizzling was the burning cigarette ash scorching his flesh. Just as she was about to warn him, Xu Lang yelped in pain.
“Ah!” Xu Lang cried out, finally jolted back to reality. Hastily, he flicked the cigarette stub into the ashtray and began blowing softly on the blister that had formed on his finger.
A soft chuckle escaped Jin Enpei’s lips at this rare, almost endearing display from Xu Lang, who seldom appeared at the agency.
Hearing her laugh, Xu Lang noticed her presence for the first time. He stopped blowing on his finger, raised his head to see Jin Enpei covering her mouth to stifle a giggle, and frowned slightly before asking calmly, “When did you come in?”
Seeing his furrowed brow, Jin Enpei ceased laughing and adopted a more serious demeanor, handing him the file folder. “I’ve been here for quite some time. You’ve been staring at the computer like you’re deep in thought, so I didn’t want to disturb you.”
Despite her effort to appear solemn, Xu Lang noticed the faint smile in her eyes. He paid no mind to the earlier comic moment. Glancing briefly at the folder, he asked, “What is this?” Then added, “Sit down. Why are you just standing there?”
Jin Enpei took a seat and explained, “Brother Lang, I received a very bizarre case. I’m notI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
