87 Shameless Ambush
The young woman smiled and said that of course she took him for her dear elder sister. Bai Xuehua sighed. Was that any way to treat a sister? The youth looked puzzled. What had he done to make her angry?
Then Bai Xuehua’s face suddenly reddened. In a low voice, she said that he had just gotten her clothes into such a state, and how was she supposed to face anyone like this in the future?
Only then did he remember how he had stained the front of her clothing, leaving her in a terribly awkward position before her subordinates. He hurriedly said that he had not meant it.
With a blush on her cheeks, Bai Xuehua softly replied that precisely because he had not meant it, she was angry. It only proved that she held no place in his heart.
The youth began to understand. Seeing the peach bloom in her face and the wistful charm that made her so pitiful and lovely, he could not help lowering his mouth to her ear with a teasing laugh. Whatever kind of woman she wished to be to him, he would agree to it, whether wife or lover, she could choose as she pleased.
Bai Xuehua’s thoughts wavered at the brush of his lips. She could not help saying that he had only been gone a few days, and yet when had he learned to be so wicked?
He laughed and said that did she not like him being wicked? There was something even worse to come. As he spoke, he could not resist wrapping both arms tightly around her waist.
This time he used real strength. Caught by such sudden action, Bai Xuehua was startled and could not help crying out in surprise, asking what he meant to do. Before she could finish, the youth’s lips had already pressed against hers.
The horse’s trot gradually slowed, and the two riders were already leaning tightly against each other.
Even he did not know why he had been so bold as to kiss Bai Xuehua’s lips. It was his first kiss.
Bai Xuehua, too, was bewildered. Why was it that when this boy held her, she had no strength to struggle free? Could this be the power of fate?
Embraced by him, Bai Xuehua’s whole body went soft and languid, as though all her peerless martial power had vanished. Held so tightly in his arms, the sensitive woman found it nearly unbearable. She closed her eyes and pleaded softly that he should not be like this. They would have many chances later, so today he should not be so foolish.
But her tender plea only stirred the youth’s impulse to tease her further. He wanted to vent on her the anger he had suffered at the hands of White Datura, and so he held her all the more tightly, his hands wandering without restraint, until Bai Xuehua’s jade-like cheeks turned pink.
Suddenly Bai Xuehua opened her eyes, forcefully pushed his hands away, and said in a low voice that enough, he was to stop this nonsense.
The youth, just getting into the mood, stared in astonishment. What was wrong? Before he could finish, Bai Xuehua had already lifted him and leaped swiftly from the horse.
He had not yet figured out what had happened when something flashed past. Then he heard Bai Xuehua shout that the Tang Clan of Shu was growing more and more worthless, doing nothing but petty, sneaking tricks.
Only after he landed on the ground did he realize that the horse they had just been riding had let out a mournful scream and fallen dead. Only then did he understand that someone had attacked them with hidden weapons.
In truth, it was all because of him. If he had not just made Bai Xuehua so dazed and distracted, then with her abilities she would have noticed long ago that enemies were lurking nearby, and her mount would never have been struck so easily by hidden projectiles.
At that moment, laughter rang out from nearby, and a voice called that he was terribly sorry for interrupting their sweet intimacies.
At the sound, Bai Xuehua gave a cold snort and said that it was Xiong Zhenfen after all, that old cur. She was rarely one to hurl filth at people, but toward Xiong Zhenfen, she truly had no kind feelings.
Xiong Zhenfen, however, had no wish to earn Bai Xuehua’s wrath. Not the least offended, he merely smiled and said that her luck was truly excellent, for today several more friends wished to meet her.
Bai Xuehua knew that Xiong Zhenfen alone would never dare come looking for her. Since he had shown himself now, he must have brought helpers. The old rogue was truly shameless and deceitful. From the hidden weapons just now, she could tell he had enlisted the aid of people from the Tang Clan of Shu.
Before long, two more men stepped out. One was a man in his forties, not tall but sharp-eyed and formidable. From his attire alone, one could tell he was of the Tang Clan of Shu.
The other was a youth in his twenties. Though fairly handsome, his face was gloomy, and it was clear his heart was not much brighter.
From the way he walked, Bai Xuehua could judge his level of skill. From the manner in which he carried himself before an opponent, she could roughly tell where his martial arts came from. His abilities clearly belonged to the famed Shadowless Manor of the martial world, and judging by his strength, he was most likely Zhao Wuzong, Zhao Wuying’s younger brother.
Though Zhao Wuzong was Zhao Wuying’s brother and was known as the second greatest master of Shadowless Manor, the two of them together were still far from Zhao Wuying alone.
Bai Xuehua also knew that even if the three of them before her joined forces, they might not be stronger than one Zhao Wuying. So these three alone would never be able to keep her here. Yet she had forgotten one thing: she had brought along the burden of Little Cloud.
She looked at Xiong Zhenfen with contempt. That old fellow was shameless, deceitful, and utterly detestable, but in truth he was also rather pitiful. To deal with her, he had gone everywhere seeking help, and that could not have been easy.
After not seeing him for so many days, he already seemed much older, his head of hair turned white. It must be because he knew she was not dead and feared she would come seeking revenge. Living each day in such dread must be terribly hard. It seemed that sparing his life for the time being was, for him, its own kind of torment.
With one hand, Bai Xuehua shielded Little Cloud in front of her. She said to Xiong Zhenfen that, old cur, was he truly not afraid that she would later seek vengeance upon his children and grandchildren? If he was wise, he should step aside today, and she would let him live a few more days.
Because Little Cloud was beside her, she did not wish to fight them at once, especially now that his fidgeting had left her limbs weak and sore. She truly could not calm herself to face such formidable enemies.
