Chapter Eighty-Four: Wager
“Your breakfast is delicious. Who made it?” Jiang Xiuzhi sat in the service station built by Yutou Village, munching on the breakfast Zhang Xiu'e had brought and chattering away.
Tang Long secretly curled his lip. Even with food in her mouth, she couldn’t keep quiet. But as he glanced at the faces of Li Ergou, Huzi, and the other men around him, he couldn’t help but sigh inwardly—women, especially beautiful ones, truly thrive wherever they go.
After a few exchanges, even Aunt Yang and the others seemed to lose much of their hostility toward this “enemy.”
“Our master chef from the village made it!” Zhang Xiu'e squinted her eyes, smiling mysteriously as she said, “If you find it hard to get used to the breakfast here, you can come over to ours. The price isn’t too high!”
She actually invited her over to Yutou Village for breakfast? Though she made it clear there was a charge, Tang Long still admired her boldness.
“I’m done eating, you all go ahead and chat.” Tang Long greeted Zhang Xiu'e, not intending to get too involved with the people from Huayutou Resort—not yet, anyway. He believed that the heiress from the Wen family would come looking for him sooner or later; it was only a matter of time.
“Village chief!” Li Ergou wiped his mouth and followed Tang Long out.
Tang Long nodded and lowered his voice as he walked beside him: “Remind your people, don’t get into any conflicts.”
“Understood!” Li Ergou nodded.
Tang Long drove off on his own.
After seeing Jiang Xiuzhi off, well-fed and content, Zhang Xiu'e came out to find Li Ergou and asked, “Where’s Tang Long gone?”
Li Ergou shook his head. “No idea. He just greeted us after eating and left.”
Zhang Xiu'e frowned, hesitated with her phone in hand, but didn’t call Tang Long.
As for Jiang Xiuzhi, after leaving Yutou Village’s service station, she returned to the opposite side and called Wen Nuan Chun.
Her voice carried a hint of excitement. “Director Wen, you really guessed right—people from Yutou Village came over, set up a service station just like ours to guide tourists!”
The phone was quiet for a while before a voice responded, “There wasn’t any conflict, was there?”
Jiang Xiuzhi shook her head, laughing. “No, the people from Yutou Village were quite friendly. That woman, Zhang Xiu'e, even invited me to breakfast. It tasted great. She said if the breakfast here isn’t good, we can go over to their side instead!”
“Free?” Wen Nuan Chun asked with a smile.
Jiang Xiuzhi stuck out her tongue and giggled, “They didn’t say that. Breakfast definitely costs money!”
Wen Nuan Chun replied softly, “I thought it’d be free. If it were, you could take the whole company over tomorrow morning.”
Jiang Xiuzhi laughed, “If we did that, they’d probably chase us out with sticks!”
Wen Nuan Chun didn’t banter further. “Keep an eye out for me there. Don’t worry about what Yutou Village does. The construction team’s machinery will arrive today. We need to catch up on progress—even if we can’t move faster than Yutou Village, we can’t lag too far behind.”
“Mm, I understand.”
Jiang Xiuzhi hesitated, frowning. “Director Wen, what we’re doing doesn’t seem to harm Yutou Village much, does it?”
Some things she simply couldn’t figure out.
Wen Nuan Chun smiled. “Some things can’t be judged by what’s right in front of you. If Yutou Village is shortsighted and only focused on the immediate, our money is as good as thrown into the river—a waste.”
She hung up.
Jiang Xiuzhi looked across at Yutou Village’s service station, her phone in hand and her gaze flickering. She wondered if being transferred back from the metropolis to invest hundreds of millions in such a remote countryside was really worth it.
No matter how she looked at it, it seemed a losing deal.
But knowing Wen Nuan Chun for years, she’d never seen her suffer a loss. This time, theoretically, she shouldn’t either.
Yesterday, Wen Nuan Chun appeared in Donghe Town, signed the contract, and left Taoyuan County. Now, she was in the metropolis.
Such a small matter shouldn’t require her personal appearance, but without it, how would the people of Yutou Village—and the mysterious “Boss Tang” behind them—know who she was?
Could any ordinary person just break her incompetent brother’s leg? It wasn’t just about strength, but even having the guts and the fist to pull it off!
Yu Binglv was from Anna International Security Group, personally assigned by Wen Nuan Chun to protect her brother, ensuring he wouldn’t get killed.
Wen Nuan Chun was well aware of Anna International’s reputation and capabilities. To be able to intimidate Yu Binglv so much that she’d dare not utter a word—such a person was not to be trifled with.
On that very same day—indeed, within a couple of hours—a rare event shook the world of mercenaries and assassins. Someone used a “Jingke Token,” and its area of use was in Jiangcheng.
A single “Jingke Token” worth sixteen billion dollars was used on an unknown “small figure.” Many would wonder: was it worth it?
Regardless of its worth, the name Jiangcheng was now marked red in certain circles. Frankly, it had become a forbidden zone for some. Unless someone could show the assets that would make desperados covetous, they wouldn’t dare set foot here again.
Wen Nuan Chun personally met Yu Binglv, who coldly said, “Beyond my capability.”
No hint of guilt—just as if saving her brother’s life was the limit of what she could do.
Afterward, Yu Binglv would certainly report to Anna International’s headquarters. The feedback received was: correct. In other words, Anna International did not admit any fault in the incident where their client’s leg was broken; on the contrary, they believed their employee handled it perfectly.
Wen Rui might drive Yu Binglv away, but not a single cent of her annual salary could be withheld.
Wen Nuan Chun questioned all those present and reconstructed the events, finally concluding… there was a formidable figure in Yutou Village.
If the “Jingke Token” and this figure in Yutou Village were connected, things would become even more interesting.
Wen Nuan Chun was not a hot-headed woman; on the contrary, she was calmer than most.
If she couldn’t afford to provoke him, making friends would suffice.
Until she fully understood Tang Long, the village chief of Yutou Village, Wen Nuan Chun had no intention of seeking revenge.
She even placed a wager—a gamble.
If certain people from Yutou Village were truly connected to the “Jingke Token” from the underworld, then they must be “not short of money.”
A mountain need not be tall; if there’s a dragon, it becomes sacred. If there’s a true “dragon” in Donghe Town, Taoyuan County, what future could it lack?
Now, occupying the area first could bring a hundredfold return in the future.
Wen Nuan Chun was formidable. She was nothing like Wen Rui, the typical second-generation heir. In fact, among the Wen family’s third generation, she was the only true “phoenix”—the rest were all barnyard chickens.
At just twenty-four, Wen Nuan Chun’s achievements far surpassed anything her family could reach.
Even in the capital, she had earned quite a reputation for her talent and ability.
