Chapter 15: Seeking Vengeance
“What else could have happened? I was just taking a shower when she burst in suddenly,” Lin Fan replied, putting on a look of “injured innocence.” “Sis, I’m the real victim here. I’m the one who suffered; my spotless reputation was just peeped away by her. No, she has to take responsibility for this.”
Hearing this, Lin Yan couldn’t hold back a laugh. She knew enough about Tang Rui to know she was just a naïve little rabbit who’d barely entered the world. Facing her younger brother, she wouldn’t stand a chance. If the two of them really did get together, that wouldn’t be a bad thing. Lin Yan had long wanted to introduce Lin Fan to a suitable match, but her brother always refused.
“You… all right, enough. I have to head to Zhentian Group. I’ve already made arrangements for you. Your cover is as a security guard at Dongxing Group,” Lin Yan said, turning to head upstairs to change.
“Wait—Dongxing Group? Did I hear that right?” Lin Fan asked in disbelief.
“That’s right, Dongxing Group,” Lin Yan repeated as she climbed the stairs. In fact, she’d originally planned to place Lin Fan in Zhentian Group, but after what had just happened, she changed her mind and sent him to Dongxing instead. Poor Lin Fan had no idea he’d already fallen into his sister’s matchmaking scheme.
Lin Fan pursed his lips and said nothing more. He ate a little, glanced at his watch, and seeing it was still early, called Xu Qiang before driving straight to the Never-Setting Sun Bar.
What Lin Fan didn’t know was that Xu Qiang had already figured things out the previous night, which was why he’d gone early to carry out Lin Fan’s instructions. Now that he’d found Lin Fan, Xu Qiang was determined to follow him, to carve out a world of their own in China and even the world, and show the country just how wrong and foolish it had been to cast them aside.
As soon as Lin Fan parked his car and started walking, he was suddenly blocked by a group of people. Surprised, he looked up to find seven or eight thuggish young men glaring at him, each wielding a club. Leading them was none other than Wei Liang, the man Lin Fan had beaten up outside the police station the other day. Judging by the scene, they were clearly here for revenge. Lin Fan could only sigh and think, “Is a few quiet days too much to ask? Always someone looking for trouble.”
“Kid, today’s your last day. Boys, get him! Beat him to death! If anything happens, I’ll take the blame,” Wei Liang shouted, pointing at Lin Fan and signaling to his men. In his mind, Lin Fan was only good at fighting one-on-one. With so many of his own people, he was sure they could beat Lin Fan to his knees, begging for mercy and calling him “grandpa.”
Before Wei Liang could even finish, Lin Fan lashed out with a kick, sending him flying and crashing to the ground. Now that things had started, Lin Fan didn’t hesitate for a second. Like a tiger charging down the mountain, he rushed into the fray. With every punch, someone went down, each blow landing on the most vulnerable points of the body. In less than a minute, all of Wei Liang’s men lay writhing on the ground, some unable even to move—clearly, Lin Fan had broken a few ribs here and there.
“What do you want? Big bro, I was wrong, I swear I was wrong! Please let me go,” Wei Liang pleaded, backing away in terror as Lin Fan approached. He’d thought that bringing so many people would make the job easy, but now, with all of them defeated by one man, his heart was filled with dread.
Seeing that his words were useless, Wei Liang tried again: “I’m the heir of Pujiang Group! If you touch me, my father won’t let you get away with it.” He thought bringing up his father might make the other man pause—after all, Pujiang Group still held a lot of power in T City, especially given its ties to the Green Gang.
Lin Fan frowned slightly—he hadn’t expected threats at this point. Seeing Wei Liang’s recently reset nose, a mischievous smile curled at Lin Fan’s lips as his fist smashed down.
A sharp crack resounded. Wei Liang clutched his nose, stumbling back and landing hard on the ground. His freshly healed nose was broken again. The searing pain made him howl uncontrollably as blood poured down his face, refusing to stop. In his whole life no one had dared lay a finger on him, yet Lin Fan had now broken his nose twice. No wonder Wei Liang’s hatred grew deeper.
“Boss, are you all right?” At that moment Xu Qiang hurried out from the bar. As soon as he spoke, he regretted it. This was Lin Fan—the former Falcon Special Forces captain, now leader of the Dragon Soul mercenaries. How could he possibly be beaten by a few street thugs?
“Boss, just let me kill him. People like this deserve to die,” Xu Qiang suddenly lunged forward, his fingers spread like claws, reaching for Wei Liang’s throat.
Seeing Xu Qiang charging at him, Wei Liang shuddered and for a moment forgot the pain in his nose. Fear welled up from deep inside—a primal certainty that this man would really kill him here in front of everyone.
He wet himself. Lin Fan hadn’t expected Wei Liang’s courage to be so feeble—Xu Qiang had barely moved before Wei Liang had already lost control.
Catching Xu Qiang’s eye, Lin Fan squatted down, looking at the bloodied, trembling Wei Liang, whose eyes were squeezed shut in terror. “Kid, let me give you some advice. Keep your head down—it’s better for both of us, don’t you think?”
Hearing Lin Fan’s words, Wei Liang instinctively opened his eyes, only to meet Lin Fan’s enigmatic smile and Xu Qiang’s murderous glare. A chill ran through him—he had no idea what to do to satisfy these two devils.
“My boss is talking to you—are you deaf?” Xu Qiang slapped Wei Liang aside.
That slap snapped Wei Liang back to his senses, and he finally remembered what Lin Fan had just said. Clutching his nose, he nodded desperately.
Someone once said: “After an hour soaking in the freezing river, a man feels he’s on the brink of death, but let him rest a while in a warm bed, and he’ll quickly forget the icy water.” Wei Liang was just that kind of pampered second-generation heir. After what had just happened, he naively believed that these two wouldn’t really dare kill him—it was all just a scare tactic. A gentleman’s revenge can wait ten years; as long as he could leave today, he’d use his father’s power to take Lin Fan’s life, and no one would be the wiser.
