“No guards?” Lin Fan was taken aback as well. “Are you sure?”

“Yes.” Mo Fei nodded. “Boss, I suspect there may be an ambush waiting for us.”

Lin Fan gave a slight nod, accepting Mo Fei’s reasoning. After all, their enemy had gone to such lengths to lure them here, most likely in order to wait for them to come rescue Li Nanxing. Yet whatever lay ahead, Lin Fan knew he had to enter. There was only one reason: his brother was inside. If he did not go, Li Nanxing would most likely never make it out alive.

“We’ll assign tasks now. Zhang Lei, take two men to the place where they’ve hidden the drugs,” Lin Fan said after a brief silence.

“You three, follow Qian Xing and find cover near the north gate. If fighting breaks out, eliminate the men at the north gate as quickly as possible.” Lin Fan pointed at the remaining members of Dragon Soul. He trusted every one of his brothers in Dragon Soul completely.

“Qiangzi, find a good sniping position and provide cover. Take out anyone who poses a threat to us. We’ll do our best to infiltrate quietly. If the enemy discovers us, use the rocket launcher to cover our assault,” Lin Fan continued. “Mo Fei and I will enter from the west and head for the dungeon. Remember, unless absolutely necessary, avoid firing your weapons. Understood?”

Their opponents numbered forty or fifty, and they had no idea what the exact situation inside was like. So whenever possible, assassination was still the best option.

When Lin Fan finished speaking, everyone nodded and exchanged glances. Mo Fei said, “Boss, I can go to the dungeon alone—”

He had barely finished half the sentence when Lin Fan shot him a fierce glare. The rest of his words died in his throat.

“We’ll do it my way.” There was no room for argument in Lin Fan’s voice. If Mo Fei had not been more familiar with the situation inside, Lin Fan would never have brought him along. When it came to unknown dangers, he would rather face them alone.

None of them dared say anything more. After spending so much time with Lin Fan, they knew that once their boss had made up his mind, no one could change it.

Lin Fan then extended his hand. One by one, the others placed their hands on top of his. Their eyes met, and they encouraged one another.

“For Dragon Soul—kill!”

No one objected to Qiangzi’s presence. They had long since regarded him as one of Dragon Soul’s own.

With a wave of Lin Fan’s hand, everyone scattered and headed toward their assigned positions according to his arrangements. In an instant, they vanished into the darkness.

At the foot of the mountain lay Scorpion’s base. It was already deep into the night, and the moonlight was faint. Nearly all the lights had been extinguished, save for the searchlights atop two watchtowers, which swept constantly across the darkness.

Everything appeared calm, but Lin Fan knew that this might be nothing more than a façade. He had no idea what awaited him.

Following their plan, Lin Fan and Mo Fei reached the western fence without difficulty. Just then, the beam of a searchlight swept toward them. The two men hurriedly dropped to the ground.

The searchlights did not linger long in any one place. Roughly every ten seconds, they passed over the same spot twice.

Looking through the fence at the dungeon, Lin Fan felt a chill run through him. The place seemed deeply ominous, though he could not say exactly what was wrong. He only knew that he had to go there. Li Nanxing was very likely being held inside.

Lin Fan signaled to Mo Fei with his hands. Mo Fei understood and returned the signal. The instant the searchlight passed over them again, the two men moved.

They rose swiftly and vaulted over the roughly two-meter-high fence in near silence. To them, such a barrier was nothing more than child’s play.

Following the directions on the map and relying on Mo Fei’s general knowledge of the area, Lin Fan and Mo Fei crouched low and moved quickly toward the dungeon, watching each other’s backs. They evaded the patrols along the way and soon reached the edge of the dungeon. There was hardly anyone nearby. The place was utterly silent.

When Lin Fan prepared to enter first, Mo Fei called softly, “Boss.”

As he spoke, he tried to move ahead of Lin Fan. He did not want Lin Fan to take the risk. For all they knew, a trap had already been laid inside, waiting for them to step into it.

Lin Fan ignored him completely and walked in first.

Seeing that he could not stop his boss, Mo Fei hurried after him and stayed close at his side. Inwardly, he swore, If there really is an ambush, I’ll fight to the death to get the boss out.

He knew that Dragon Soul could survive without Mo Fei—but it absolutely could not survive without Lin Fan.

Not far from Scorpion’s base, a man and a woman watched Lin Fan and Mo Fei enter the dungeon with their own eyes.

“You saw that, little sister? That is the man you once loved. For the sake of his brother, he is willing to place himself in danger. Think about it—what has he ever done for you?” the man said to the woman beside him.

There was a mocking amusement in his voice, along with a note of schadenfreude.

If Lin Fan had been there, he would certainly have recognized the woman. She was Ling Xue—the woman who had once betrayed Dragon Soul and later escaped only by a hair after suffering severe injuries at their hands.

As though she had not heard the young man, Ling Xue stood there without expression, not the slightest ripple of emotion crossing her face. She merely gazed silently into the distance.

The young man snorted and said nothing more. He stared at the dungeon not far away and spoke with disdain.

“Relax. There’s no ambush inside. I won’t let him die that easily. If he died so soon, how could we continue our game with him and Dragon Soul? Isn’t that right, little sister?”

Ling Xue continued to stand coldly atop the mountain, without uttering a word.

Lin Fan and Mo Fei entered the dungeon. Unexpectedly, there was no ambush waiting for them. The so-called dungeon was merely a pond, with several wooden posts standing in the middle. The prisoners had been bound to those posts with their hands behind their backs, leaving only their heads above the water.

There was only one person in the pond. His face was haggard, his head hanging low, and his features covered in wounds. Clearly, he had endured a great deal of physical torment.

Because of the darkness, Lin Fan and Mo Fei could not make out his appearance. Even so, their hearts leaped with excitement, for this man was very likely their brother, Li Nanxing.

After inspecting the dungeon and confirming that there was no ambush, Lin Fan and Mo Fei slowly waded through the water toward him.

Sensing movement beneath the surface, the prisoner suddenly opened his eyes.

Although his face was exhausted, his eyes were bright and piercing, filled with fury and hatred. He had always been the one to torture others. After being tortured himself for several days, he was naturally enraged. If he were given the chance, he would never spare the men who had tormented him.

But when he recognized Lin Fan and Mo Fei, he froze. His whole body began to tremble, and his eyes instantly reddened. Fortunately, the night concealed his tears.

“Boss…” Li Nanxing cried out in excitement.
