Chapter 107: Arrival in the Golden Triangle
Damn it, where on earth is this guy’s mind at? Lin Fan involuntarily shot Mo Fei a glance and said, “I’m taking Qiangzi with me. Hurry up and book the tickets. If they sell out, you won’t be going.”
“Don’t, don’t, don’t...” Mo Fei stammered, immediately rushing to the computer. Although he didn’t know why his boss suddenly decided to bring Xu Qiang along, Lin Fan didn’t explain, so Mo Fei wouldn’t ask. Besides, he had seen Xu Qiang’s skills firsthand. Having one more person would only increase their chances of rescuing Li Nanxing.
Mo Fei was naturally drawn to the battlefield. Setting aside his personal feelings for Li Nanxing, just the chance to stir up trouble in the Golden Triangle alongside Lin Fan was enough to ensure he wouldn’t miss such a golden opportunity.
“Zhang Lei, you and Mo Fei get ready. We leave promptly at 8 p.m.,” Lin Fan said without hesitation.
No sooner had Lin Fan finished speaking than Zhang Lei stood and left. Lin Fan glanced at Tan Zhiyong and said, “This trip might take some time. Just in case, take good care of Ying’er for me.”
Everyone in the Dragon Soul’s upper echelons probably already knew about Lin Fan’s relationship with Zhao Ying. Lin Fan trusted that Tan Zhiyong could read between the lines. Since Zhao Ying was his woman, Lin Fan naturally feared for her safety. After all, he had too many enemies lurking in the shadows. If someone dared to target Zhao Ying, the consequences would be unimaginable. As for Feifei and his sister, Lin Fan believed that with his brother Ren Qianxing there, there would be no problems.
“I understand, Boss,” Tan Zhiyong said. “Boss, I’m really glad you’ve come to terms with Xue’er’s matter.” Although no one in Dragon Soul dared to mention Ling Xue in front of Lin Fan, Tan Zhiyong was an exception. After a moment’s hesitation, he spoke up. It was clear that Lin Fan had finally let go of a lot regarding that affair, and Zhao Ying was the best proof of that.
After Tan Zhiyong finished speaking, Lin Fan paused slightly, then smiled faintly and gave him a reassuring look. After all, Lin Fan didn’t want his brothers to worry about him.
Nodding, Lin Fan got up and left. After exiting the office, he drove straight to Xu Qiang’s place. On the way, Lin Fan called Lin Yan and told her he had to leave for a while, asking her to inform Feifei and Tang Rui about his whereabouts. Lin Yan naturally guessed what he was up to and reminded Lin Fan to be careful before hanging up.
After Lin Fan left, Tan Zhiyong muttered to himself, “Boss, I hope you really have let go.” He knew his boss’s greatest strength was his loyalty, but his greatest weakness was that he cared too much. Whether it was family, friendship, or love, these were the most important things to Lin Fan. Especially love—he always seemed helpless and instinctively chose to avoid it.
The matter with Ling Xue had been a huge blow to his boss. Tan Zhiyong knew that incident was far from over.
Thinking about it, it had been four years since Lin Fan last fought alongside Xu Qiang. Originally, Lin Fan had planned to use this time to absorb the Qing Gang in one fell swoop and then strike at the Pujiang Group, thereby turning T City completely into Dragon Soul’s territory. But now, with Li Nanxing in trouble, that plan would have to be postponed.
At Xu Qiang’s place, Lin Fan briefed Hu Zifeng on some matters, and the two drove off. Lin Fan intended to hand over Dragon Soul’s influence in T City to Hu Zifeng in the future. This arrangement was good—it would allow Hu Zifeng to get accustomed first. After all, Xu Qiang’s personality wasn’t suited for this kind of work.
“Boss, I’m finally going to fight alongside you again,” Xu Qiang said happily as he drove. He knew that by Lin Fan’s side, he would never lack passion and fervor.
Lin Fan understood what his brother was thinking, smiled faintly, and said, “Don’t worry, there will be plenty more chances like this.”
The two quickly packed some essentials, grabbed a quick bite at a random spot, and at 8 p.m., the group boarded a plane. Before boarding, Lin Fan made a special call to Zhao Ying...
In the early hours of the next morning, Lin Fan, Xu Qiang, Mo Fei, and Zhang Lei arrived in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and then quickly transferred to head toward the Golden Triangle.
The Golden Triangle refers to the triangular region at the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos. The Thai government erected an archway inscribed with “Golden Triangle” at this tripoint, hence the area’s name.
The Golden Triangle is famous for its poppy cultivation and production of opium and heroin through local warlords and drug lords. Globally, it is known as one of the three major drug-producing regions alongside the Golden Crescent at the borders of Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan, and the Silver Triangle at the Colombia-Venezuela border.
Standing beside the “Golden Triangle” archway, Lin Fan’s lips curled into a cold smile. Over the years, the drug lords here had sold massive quantities of narcotics to Huaxia annually, causing a growing addiction problem.
Back when he wore his military uniform, the state restricted his every move; he couldn’t act at will. Now that he was no longer tied to the country, he had no such concerns. Since he had come this far, Lin Fan was determined not only to rescue his brother but also to seize the opportunity to do something meaningful here. Otherwise, this trip to the Golden Triangle would feel wasted.
“Boss, this is already our second time coming here,” Xu Qiang remarked, watching the tourists bustling about.
The Golden Triangle had become a popular tourist destination in northern Thailand, attracting countless visitors every year. But Lin Fan and his companions all knew this was just a facade. Beneath the surface, drug-related conflicts never truly ceased.
“This is my third time,” Lin Fan said, his phoenix-like eyes under his bangs staring into the distance, revealing nothing of his thoughts.
Xu Qiang was momentarily stunned but quickly understood. His boss must have come here during his four years with Dragon Soul. In fact, the first time he and Lin Fan came here, it was on a mission to assassinate a major drug lord. Xu Qiang hadn’t expected to be revisiting the place with Lin Fan under such circumstances.
“A few years ago, the boss came here on a mission with the captain,” Zhang Lei added, naturally referring to Han Feng, confirming Xu Qiang’s guess.
Zhang Lei also knew Xu Qiang was Lin Fan’s brother back in the Falcon days, so naturally, he considered them all his brothers. Thus, when Lin Fan proposed bringing Xu Qiang along, neither he nor Mo Fei objected.
After settling into a hotel, Lin Fan gathered Xu Qiang, Zhang Lei, and Mo Fei in his room. Li Nanxing had vanished suddenly in the Golden Triangle; Lin Fan had to investigate bit by bit. It was like searching for a needle in a haystack, but as long as he hadn’t found his brother’s body, Lin Fan would keep searching and would never forgive those who harmed him.
“You’ve been traveling all night. If you’re tired, rest first,” Lin Fan said after they sat down.
“No need, Boss. Finding Nanxing is urgent,” Mo Fei said. He knew that every minute wasted increased his brother’s danger. Unlike Lin Fan, who hid his emotions deep inside, Mo Fei’s feelings for his brother were plain for all to see.
Lin Fan nodded. In truth, he was just as worried about Li Nanxing. But as the backbone of Dragon Soul, if he lost his composure, the battle would be lost before it even began.
“Mo Fei, you and Zhang Lei go contact the Dragon Soul brothers who have already arrived here. Qiangzi, come with me to the Blue Banner Army,” Lin Fan quickly assigned tasks.
“Boss, I want to go with you. Without the captain around, they might not show you face,” Zhang Lei said. Last time, Han Feng had accompanied Lin Fan to the Blue Banner Army. Now that Han Feng was gone, Zhang Lei worried about how to face Dragon Soul if something happened to Lin Fan there.
Lin Fan knew his brother was worried and about to speak when Xu Qiang suddenly said, “Don’t worry, you two. As long as I’m here, no one can harm the boss unless they step over my corpse.” His eyes were full of unwavering determination as he looked at Lin Fan.
With Xu Qiang saying this, Zhang Lei naturally didn’t press the issue. After all, Xu Qiang was also one of Lin Fan’s brothers. Insisting on tagging along otherwise would seem like a lack of trust.
“When we were with the Falcons, I was already acquainted with the general of the Blue Banner Army. You two have nothing to worry about,” Lin Fan added.
