Chapter 141: Preparations Before the Counterattack
Mo Tian finally understood how everything had unfolded from Lin Feng’s few casually spoken words.
“What, the other side is the leader of the industry. Weren’t you afraid when they threatened you?” Mo Tian asked curiously, looking at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng curled his lip, his expression suggesting that he did not agree with Mo Tian’s view. Then he said, “Being number one is only temporary. Give Future Technology some time, and the top spot in the industry will no longer belong to them.”
“Enough nonsense. How are you planning to deal with this? Time is the one thing you have the least of right now.” Mo Tian did not accept Lin Feng’s explanation and continued questioning him.
“They like playing games, so I’ll play with them properly on the stock market. Let’s see whether I can tear a chunk of flesh from Microsoft and make them suffer for a while.” Lin Feng looked at Mo Tian calmly as he spoke, but beneath that calmness lurked a trace of murderous intent that even made Mo Tian uneasy.
Seeing that Lin Feng already had a way to deal with Microsoft’s threat, Mo Tian had nothing more to say. After hearing Lin Feng’s answer, he immediately flew back into the jade pendant on Lin Feng’s chest.
That evening, when they returned to the Lin family villa, Lin Feng and Xia Ruoxi tacitly refrained from mentioning what had happened at the company. Lin Chuanzhi and his wife had quickly settled matters in Zhanhai and were preparing to return to Yanjing. Lin Feng did not want them to worry too much, and he believed he could handle the situation himself.
Unfortunately, Lin Feng assumed that if he said nothing, Lin Chuanzhi would remain unaware. What he did not know was that Old Master Lin had already learned about the matter in Yanjing. At the time, the old man had wanted to call Lin Feng and speak with him, but Lin Feng had needed to think things over and had shut off his phone. As a result, Old Master Lin had contacted Lin Chuanzhi instead.
“Lin Feng, is there really nothing you want to tell me?” Lin Chuanzhi asked after Lin Feng had finished dinner and was about to rise and return to his room.
“Ah? Dad, what do you mean? I don’t think there’s anything I need to tell you.” Lin Feng had no idea that Old Master Lin had already called his father, so he continued pretending not to understand.
Seeing that Lin Feng still refused to explain honestly, Lin Chuanzhi got straight to the point. “Stop pretending. Prime Minister Zhu and Old Master Xie already know. Do you really think our family’s old master wouldn’t know? Or that the direct line of the Lin family wouldn’t know?”
“Er… You all know already?” Lin Feng asked in surprise, staring at him.
Lin Chuanzhi ignored his astonishment and continued, “Have you decided how you’re going to deal with this? You told Prime Minister Zhu that you would resolve it yourself. Microsoft is no small company. Are you confident?”
Since everyone was already aware of the matter, Lin Feng no longer bothered hiding anything. He said to Lin Chuanzhi, “Heh. In business, I’m not afraid of any company. Even if Microsoft is the industry leader, I have nothing to fear. Besides, the foundations beneath that title of ‘industry leader’ are becoming increasingly shaky.”
Seeing Lin Feng’s confidence, Lin Chuanzhi was finally able to relax and stopped pressing him with unnecessary questions.
Only after settling things with his father did Lin Feng take Xia Ruoxi upstairs to their room. He did not know that shortly after he went upstairs, Lin Chuanzhi called Old Master Lin.
“Chuanzhi, you asked Lin Feng about it. What did that boy say? If he truly has no way to handle it, he should hand over those two technologies and buy himself some time to develop!” The moment the call connected, Old Master Lin impatiently asked several questions before Lin Chuanzhi could even speak.
“Dad, I just asked him. Lin Feng said he would deal with it himself. His expression was very calm, as though the matter hadn’t affected him at all.” Lin Chuanzhi repeated his conversation with Lin Feng to the old man.
“What? He said he would handle it himself? Are you sure he has a solution?” Old Master Lin asked incredulously.
Although Lin Chuanzhi did not know exactly what method Lin Feng intended to use, judging from his answers, he still had considerable faith in him.
“Old Master, I don’t know what method he’ll use, but we should have confidence in him. Compromise will never solve the problem. It will only encourage the other side to become even more aggressive.” Lin Chuanzhi expressed his opinion.
“All right. I was simply too concerned and lost my judgment. Keep a close eye on Lin Feng these next few days. If anything happens, contact me immediately. Understood?” Old Master Lin instructed him over the phone.
In fact, the Xie and Lin families were not the only ones in Yanjing who knew about the matter. Nearly every family of second-tier status or above had received the news. When they heard that Lin Feng’s Future Technology had gone up against Microsoft, none of them believed Lin Feng’s side had much chance of winning.
Wang Man of the Yanjing Wang family was especially delighted. In the study, he heard Old Master Wang mention that Microsoft had threatened the nation’s senior officials over two of the latest technologies developed by Lin Feng’s company. The moment Wang Man learned that Lin Feng was in trouble, his entire face lit up with joy. If he had not been in Old Master Wang’s study, he would have been unable to resist calling Lin Feng to offer his “regards.”
After returning to their room on the second floor and closing the door, Lin Feng said directly to Xia Ruoxi, “I probably won’t be going to the company for the next few days. Ruoxi, I’ll have to trouble you again.”
“Please. You make yourself sound so noble, as though you’re always going to the company to help out!” Xia Ruoxi immediately mocked him.
“Er…” Lin Feng was struck speechless. Thinking it over, he realized that what she said was more or less true, so he could only give an embarrassed, bitter smile.
Seeing his gloomy expression, Xia Ruoxi stopped teasing him. Then she remembered the matter with Microsoft and said, “By the way, Lin Feng, I’ve already instructed the finance department to transfer the money into several accounts today. You can use it whenever you need it.”
“That’s good. You should get some rest first. Don’t wait for me tonight. I’m going to find a quieter room and study Microsoft’s stock carefully. Once the market opens tomorrow, I’ll begin.”
Lin Feng nodded, then reminded her once more before picking up the laptop from the table and leaving the room.
After settling himself in a guest room on the second floor, Lin Feng thought of several ways to deal with Microsoft. However, those methods required Mo Tian’s assistance. He picked up the jade pendant at his chest, called Mo Tian’s name, and began plotting to put him to work.
“Damn, why are you calling me out again? Didn’t you say you’d already thought of a way to deal with Microsoft?” Mo Tian complained the moment he appeared.
Lin Feng did not answer immediately. Instead, he gave Mo Tian an ominous smile.
“Damn, the way you’re smiling is so sinister. I’m guessing this isn’t going to be anything good!”
Lin Feng remained silent, continuing to smile at him.
Mo Tian began to feel increasingly uneasy under his gaze. In the end, he could not take it anymore and hurriedly begged, “Please stop staring at me, all right? You’re making me nervous. If you need something, can’t you just say it plainly?”
Only then did Lin Feng finally speak, though the sinister smile remained on his face. “I did call you out because I need your help. Didn’t you say you were a super hacker? I’m lending you my body. Help me find some damaging information on Microsoft. It’ll be useful over the next few days.”
“So that’s what you were thinking about! Looks like Microsoft is going to be ruined this time. Why did they have to provoke you?” Mo Tian immediately understood Lin Feng’s intention and began worrying for Microsoft.
Lin Feng did not continue bantering with him. Instead, he urged, “Stop wasting time and get started. Find as much information as you can. If we’re going to play, we might as well make it a big game. What’s the point of fooling around with small moves?”
Mo Tian could only roll his eyes. In the end, he followed Lin Feng’s instructions and took control of his body, using his fingers to strike the keyboard of the laptop. Before long, he had broken into Microsoft’s servers.
Although Microsoft’s anti-hacking defenses might have been extremely advanced on this planet, the intruder they faced was Mo Tian—a superhuman from another plane whose technological abilities far surpassed those of this world. The layers of firewalls Microsoft had established were utterly useless before him. Mo Tian dismantled them with ease, and soon Microsoft’s servers lay exposed before him like a private garden.
“The technology on your planet is truly terrible. Shall I use a few dirty tricks? I guarantee that Microsoft will become history starting tomorrow!”
Although Mo Tian controlled Lin Feng’s body, Lin Feng could still hear everything he said.
“That won’t be necessary. Killing them all at once would make things less interesting. Don’t you think it’s more enjoyable to leave them alive and torment them slowly?”
Lin Feng hurriedly stopped him through their mental connection. He did not want Mo Tian to take things too far.
“You’re quite twisted, you know. But I like it. Slowly torturing them is far more satisfying!”
Mo Tian was clearly delighted by Lin Feng’s words and wholeheartedly agreed.
Lin Feng stopped chatting with him and urged him to get on with the real work.
More than half an hour later, Mo Tian spoke again. This time, however, he had no idle remarks to make.
“Lin Feng, you have to admit, I really found quite a lot. Never mind Microsoft’s tax evasion. They’ve actually been secretly using the back doors in their operating system to help the American government gather intelligence and steal the secrets of other countries! Damn, this is explosive news. If it gets exposed, Microsoft’s stock won’t merely plummet—they’ll be in trouble for quite some time!”
Mo Tian continued controlling Lin Feng’s body, his fingers clattering across the keyboard as he spoke excitedly.
“Damn! Are you sure? You really found something that explosive?” Lin Feng’s consciousness cried out excitedly.
Hearing Lin Feng question his abilities, Mo Tian angrily sneered at him. “You actually doubt my skills? The computer technology of your world is like a sheet of paper before me. One poke and it tears.”
“Heh, I was just too excited. I misspoke. Of course I know your skills are absolutely top-notch.” Realizing that Mo Tian was angry, Lin Feng quickly apologized through their mental link.
Mo Tian did not respond immediately. He continued tapping away at the computer until he had finished everything, then returned control of the body to Lin Feng. Before leaving, he grumbled, “At least you know better. If you ever doubt me again, prepare to run naked through the streets!”
Lin Feng reclaimed control of his body. Hearing Mo Tian’s final threat, he could only offer an utterly speechless, bitter smile.
