Chapter 125: Touring the Laboratory
In the hall, the Second Uncle, Lin Chuanyan, also interjected, saying to Lin Yu, "Your grandfather and father are both right! Remember, once you arrive at your post, you must strive to hone your skills. As long as you can achieve results and genuinely serve the people, even if you make a significant mistake, the Lin family will have every reason to stand by you and support you. But if you do something you shouldn't, never mind your father or the Old Master; I believe Lin Feng will be the first to step in and deal with you!"
Lin Yu understood the gravity of the situation. The elders in the room were now imparting their hard-earned experience to him, and even if the words were harsh, he had to listen.
"Haha, you don't need to worry. I will keep an eye on this kid in Zhanhai City, and I will have the people from the Longteng Gang watch him as well. If he does anything he shouldn't, he won't be able to escape my grasp!" To apply pressure, Lin Feng added this threat to Lin Yu.
The other Lin family elders had indeed been worried about Lin Yu, fearing that his lack of experience in the bureaucracy would lead him to cross the line. Now, hearing Lin Feng’s assurance and recalling the formidable, almost supernatural capabilities of the Longteng Gang, they were completely reassured. With the Longteng Gang watching over him in Zhanhai, they believed the boy wouldn't have an easy time of it. In fact, they began to feel a bit bad for him, wondering if they had been too strict.
"Come on, Lin Feng, do we have to go that far? You wouldn't happen to know exactly how many times I go to the bathroom or where I go every day, would you?" Lin Yu asked, looking at Lin Feng with a bitter face. He had been hoping that while his time in Zhanhai would be for work, he could still have some fun in his spare time.
"You could say that. Within the system, you have people from the Ma family watching you, so you won't be able to stir up any major trouble. As for outside, almost every entertainment venue of any size in Zhanhai City belongs to my people. What do you think?" Lin Feng looked at Lin Yu and smiled sinisterly.
"Woe is me, this life is impossible to live!" Lin Yu lamented, pretending to collapse onto the sofa in protest.
Seeing Lin Yu’s expression, everyone in the hall couldn't help but laugh, and for a moment, the somber atmosphere of departure was greatly diluted. Once everything had been discussed, everyone took their leave to return to their rooms and rest.
By the afternoon of the following day, the hall of the Lin residence was bustling once again. Even the elders who had been working returned to bid farewell to Lin Feng’s family and Lin Yu.
"Dad, Mom, you don't need to see us off. I’m only going back for a while and will be back in a few days! Why go through all this trouble?" Standing outside the Lin family courtyard, Lin Chuanzhi said to the Old Master and Grandmother Lin as they stepped out to see them off.
"Hmph, I'm not seeing you off; I'm just sending off my grandson. You're too thick-skinned!" Although his son had hit the nail on the head, the Old Master refused to admit it.
Seeing the Old Master’s stubbornness, Lin Chuanzhi could only shake his head with a wry smile. Lin Feng, unable to help himself, stepped forward to ease the tension: "Exactly, Old Master, Grandmother, you don't need to see us off. Everyone go back inside; it’s cold out here."
Even with Lin Feng’s plea, the two elders stubbornly stood their ground, refusing to leave. Seeing this, Lin Feng felt helpless.
Nearby, the eldest uncle and aunt were also lecturing Lin Yu. Looking at Lin Yu’s depressed expression, Lin Feng assumed they weren't saying anything pleasant.
Lin Xueer, who knew Lin Feng was leaving today, had skipped class to rush back. She was currently huddled with Xia Ruoxi, chatting incessantly.
Seeing Lin Feng looking at her, Lin Xueer let go of Xia Ruoxi’s hand and ran over to Lin Feng, hugging his arm and acting coquettishly: "Cousin, why are you leaving so soon? I wanted to take you around Yanjing, but you were never home, and I never had the chance!"
Lin Feng doted on Lin Xueer. He stroked his cousin’s hair and smiled: "There will be other chances. You can take me out when I come back to Yanjing next time! If you miss me or Ruoxi, you can also come to Zhanhai City to visit us during your holidays."
"Really? Cousin, can I really come?" Hearing the invitation, Lin Xueer shrieked in excitement and asked again.
"Your legs are your own; you can go wherever you want. No one will stop you, as long as you're happy!" Lin Feng was extremely indulgent toward her; he would do anything to make her happy. He pinched her nose and confirmed it.
"Ouch, Cousin, stop pinching my nose! It won't look good if you keep doing that, and I'm not a little kid anymore; how can you keep pinching me?" Lin Xueer protested unhappily.
Hearing their exchange, Lin Xueer’s adorable expression made everyone laugh, and the sorrow of parting faded once more.
When the time came, Lin Feng’s family and Lin Yu bid a final farewell to the elders before getting into the car.
They departed in the Old Master’s car, as he had insisted on the arrangement, saying that they must be sent off exactly as they were received—it had to be that way the first time.
Lin Chuanzhi and Liu Runli could not refuse and had to accept this special treatment once again. Having experienced it once and heard of the happenings during their Yanjing trip, Xia Ruoxi was no longer surprised by the unique nature of the vehicle.
The Old Master’s car drove Lin Feng’s family and Lin Yu to the airport. The spectacle was so grand that shortly after they arrived, everyone in Yanjing’s inner circles knew that Lin Feng was leaving for Zhanhai City.
The old-guard families felt a sense of loss. After Lin Feng returned from Japan, they hadn't been able to see him to strengthen their ties. Now, they viewed him as the hope for the rise of the old families and were eager to connect with him, hoping to introduce their own younger generations to him.
Meanwhile, the emerging families, especially those like the Wang family who had offended Lin Feng, finally breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing he had left Yanjing. Otherwise, they would have lived in constant fear of him seeking revenge. After all, he was the man who had easily wiped out the Iga clan in Japan and forced the Japanese leadership to bow their heads in defeat. Which family that had offended him wouldn't be afraid of such an unbridled individual?
The most unhappy person to hear of Lin Feng’s departure was Premier Zhu. He had intended to call and ask why Lin Feng didn't say goodbye before leaving. Fortunately, Lin Feng was already on the plane with his phone off, otherwise, he would have inevitably had to endure the Premier’s complaints.
Upon landing in Zhanhai City, Lin Feng did not return to the villa with Lin Chuanzhi and the others. Instead, he hurried to the laboratory. He was eager to see the current state of the facility, as all his future development would center around it.
At the lab, he immediately encountered the trainees brought back by Zhao Ze, who surrounded him with excitement and greeted him.
Zhao Ze arrived upon hearing the news, looking equally thrilled. After pushing through the crowd of trainees, he looked at Lin Feng and asked in surprise, "Young Master Lin, you... how are you back? Shouldn't you be in Yanjing?"
Seeing the shock on Zhao Ze’s face, Lin Feng dismissed the trainees before replying: "I just got off the plane and came straight here. Zhang Wen told me the lab had started operations, and I couldn't help but come and take a look."
"Yes! It has already started! Come, Young Master Lin, let me show you." Zhao Ze led the way.
Lin Feng nodded and followed. After walking a short distance, he remembered that the Yanjing branch was currently without a leader. With him back in Zhanhai, he instructed Zhao Ze: "You need to send someone to take charge of the Yanjing branch. See who is capable; it can't be left unmanned."
Zhao Ze thought as they walked, and after a long while, he proposed: "How about we send Wang Hu? Sun Long is still needed here at the lab, and I can't leave the headquarters, so Wang Hu is the only option."
"Alright, Wang Hu is a good lad. Teach him your cultivation techniques as well; as for what level he can reach, that will depend on his own aptitude." Lin Feng agreed, confirming the choice.
The two arrived at the laboratory entrance and walked in. As this was a private lab, outsiders were not allowed. The staff had been recruited by Zhang Wen and did not recognize Lin Feng, but seeing him accompanied by Zhao Ze, they dared not speak despite their curiosity.
Zhang Wen was currently discussing the issues with the high-definition displays and hard drives Lin Feng had provided with several experts he had hired at high salaries. Suddenly, he saw Zhao Ze enter with a young man. Lin Feng had been looking around with curiosity and had fallen behind, so Zhang Wen didn't immediately recognize him.
As Lin Feng drew closer, Zhang Wen saw who it was and hurried over excitedly: "Chairman Lin! Why are you here? Weren't you still in Yanjing?"
Hearing the question again, Lin Feng repeated his explanation.
"The setup here is excellent. Thank you for your hard work, Zhang Wen!" Lin Feng was very satisfied with the lab and patted Zhang Wen on the shoulder in praise.
"Young Master Lin, you flatter me. It is only because of your immense financial backing that this lab has achieved its current scale!" Zhang Wen dared not take all the credit and replied modestly.
"Don't be modest. Money alone doesn't build a lab like this. While I may not be an expert, I know enough to see the value here. You don't need to be so formal; calling you a talent is no exaggeration." Lin Feng praised him again.
Only then did Zhang Wen, feeling embarrassed, touch his hair and accept the compliment.
"By the way, what other help do you need? If you have requirements for funds or other resources, feel free to bring them up." Lin Feng asked.
