Chapter 70: Lin'er Zhong Shows Her Ferocity
Zhong Lin’er basked in the fury of Class D, twisting her body and even breaking into a dance.
“You’re such a tease!” someone suddenly shouted, igniting laughter all around.
Yuehu, sensing the situation was spiraling out of control, quickly called out, “Quiet down! Zhong Lin’er, behave yourself. This is not the place for your dance. Will you continue challenging, or if not, return to your stand!”
Zhong Lin’er replied with smug satisfaction, “I won’t be foolish enough to keep challenging. While Class C isn’t much stronger, if I move up, the students from Class D will all want to challenge me. I’d be exhausted. So, I’ve decided not to challenge any further!”
She was no fool; she understood that her strength was on par with Class D’s. Even if she managed to defeat a Class C student, she would soon be knocked down by her own classmates. It was better to stay put—Class D couldn’t challenge her, and no one in Class F dared to.
She raised her chin high, chest thrust forward, her eyes locked onto Chen Mo, brimming with provocation.
Chen Mo was about to rise when Ye Zhiyan, the old class leader sitting beside him, stood up first. “Zhong Lin’er! I will challenge you!”
“Eh?” The students of Class F were astonished. Ye Zhiyan was almost synonymous with ‘flower vase’ in their class. Everyone knew she liked Chen Mo, always hovering around him, but no one expected this delicate flower to dare challenge Zhong Lin’er.
Though Zhong Lin’er was quite brazen, her fierce competitiveness had placed her among the top five in Class F. Coupled with her genius boyfriend Wu Chen, her strength had surged ahead—even few in Class D could rival her.
Instructor Yuehu was surprised as well. “Ye Zhiyan, are you sure you want to challenge Zhong Lin’er?”
Ye Zhiyan glanced at Chen Mo, who gave her an encouraging look.
She nodded firmly, her gaze resolute. “I’m sure!”
Chen Mo understood—Ye Zhiyan was challenging Zhong Lin’er to teach her a lesson on his behalf, and to prove she was more than just a pretty face.
Drumstick Instructor handed shields to Zhong Lin’er and Ye Zhiyan. After eating the shield drumsticks, a blue barrier enveloped their bodies.
Instructor Yuehu announced, “Ye Zhiyan of Class F challenges Zhong Lin’er of Class D. Let the battle begin!”
Zhong Lin’er laughed so exaggeratedly she nearly doubled over. “Hahaha! I can’t take it! Chen Mo, you coward, hiding in the back and sending your girl instead. How pathetic!”
Ye Zhiyan, angry, shot back, “Shut up! Don’t speak about Chen Mo!”
“Oh my, where did this little princess come from? Look at your childish anger. Do you really think you’re some lofty royalty? Well, too bad! I say what I want. Chen Mo is a coward—what can you do about it?”
“Shut up!” Ye Zhiyan was furious; it was the first time Chen Mo had ever seen her so upset.
A white light flashed. Ye Zhiyan, clad in a novice’s outfit, switched to Mage Apprentice.
Zhong Lin’er’s laughter intensified. “What? A Mage Apprentice? You’re killing me! Are you really going to challenge me like this? How humiliating! Watch me!”
Zhong Lin’er wore a refined E-ranked set—all gifts from Wu Chen. Especially her staff, the D-ranked Staff of Arrogance.
Not skilled at arguing, Ye Zhiyan’s face was flushed red, and after a long struggle, she managed, “You shameless woman—take this!”
With those words, she conjured a handful of green leaves as if performing a magic trick.
The students were dumbfounded. Where did the leaves come from? From storage space? But storage space couldn’t hold real-world items. Were these leaves from the game instance?
Zhong Lin’er sneered, “You really are naïve. Do you think you can beat me with those leaves? I can’t stand your stupidity any longer. Die! Fireball!”
Raising her Staff of Arrogance with +10 magic power, Zhong Lin’er conjured a basketball-sized fireball and launched it at Ye Zhiyan!
Crackling flames surged forth, heat waves billowing, heading straight for Ye Zhiyan.
Ye Zhiyan was clearly nervous—her face pale, sweat dotting her brow. It was her first real battle; she’d never even been able to step on an ant as a child, and now she was facing imminent danger.
But the thought that Chen Mo was watching gave her courage. If she backed down now, she’d surely lose his respect. She steeled herself.
Ye Zhiyan flung the leaves overhead with all her strength, and they scattered in the air.
The students in the stands looked at each other. “Does Ye Zhiyan think she’s in a melodrama, tossing leaves like that?”
Concerned for her, Chen Mo scanned Ye Zhiyan’s stats. After reading her skill information, he relaxed, a smile at his lips. “Interesting—who knew Ye Zhiyan would have such a lucky chance.”
“Look! What’s that?” a student pointed out.
“The leaves are suspended in midair—they’re not falling! How magical!”
The leaves Ye Zhiyan had thrown seemed enchanted, hovering in the air around her.
“Enough of this trickery! Turn to ash!” Zhong Lin’er focused her mind, accelerating the fireball.
Just as the fireball was about to strike Ye Zhiyan—suddenly!
A hundred floating leaves shot out green threads that linked them together, forming a green wall of leaves!
Boom!
The oncoming fireball smashed into the leafy wall, sending up a tremendous wave of fire!
The flames surged, trying to consume and turn all the leaves to ash.
Ye Zhiyan’s face grew paler, but she bit her lip and murmured, “Leaf Shield!”
A gentle green radiance emanated from her, connecting her mysteriously to each leaf. At the brink of being devoured by flames, the leaves burst forth with a powerful green light, reversing the tide and swallowing the fire instead. In a blink, the raging flames were drowned in vibrant green!
“What—what is this?” Zhong Lin’er was dumbfounded, utterly stunned.
The students in the stands were equally stupefied. Was this really the flower vase of Class F? She had shattered their expectations. They couldn’t make sense of it.
Chen Mo saw Ye Zhiyan’s anxious brow and her hesitation, unsure what to do next.
Scanning her again, he discovered Ye Zhiyan had two skills: Leaf Shield and Leaf Blade. Her identity was not only Mage Apprentice, but she also possessed a hidden class—Leaf Spirit!
It was his first time seeing a hidden class—such extraordinary luck had fallen to the naïve class leader. Who knew if it was a blessing or a curse.
“Old class leader! Go for it!” Chen Mo suddenly jumped to his feet in the stands, shouting encouragement.
Ye Zhiyan’s trembling body was warmed by his words, like a spring thaw after winter. Her resolve strengthened, her voice clear as she cried out, “Leaf Blade!”
