Chapter 96: The Great Battle (Third Update)
“That silver-haired man is no joke. I heard he battled Virtue Master for three days and three nights, and in the end it ended in a draw.”
“No way. I heard it was the golden woman who fought Virtue Master for five days and five nights, and Virtue Master had the edge.”
“What kind of news is that? The silver-haired man and the golden woman joined forces against Virtue Master, but Virtue Master’s cultivation was peerless and he beat the two of them into a sorry rout.”
Countless people were discussing it, even inventing the details of the battle out of thin air, but one thing remained unchanged: Virtue Master had won.
After all, in everyone’s mind, Virtue Master was someone who could never lose. He was the foremost figure of the path of law; how could he possibly be defeated so easily?
If he did lose, his reputation would surely plummet, and people would begin to question him.
That was not a situation many wished to see.
But when Virtue Master heard these rumors, he was so furious his beard nearly fell out.
Were they not just helping me, Virtue Master, gather hatred? And not a little of it, either!
Today, Great Capital was practically splitting apart. Even the Sage, on hearing the news, had a headache. Those damned palace maids had still let the word leak out, and that Virtue Master had even fabricated two utterly inexplicable experts?
What was his intention? To make this emperor realize there is always someone above you? Or was he plotting something else entirely?
But whatever his plan, it was surely ill-intentioned.
These damned, stubborn commoners were always thinking of every possible way to scheme against this emperor.
Western County.
Ye Li definitely came back earlier than Ye Kun, but when Ye Li thought about how her little insect was just gone like that, her heart bled.
Her own carelessness had destroyed the little insect.
Fortunately, she had avenged it. Otherwise, she would have been miserable inside.
“You’ve been taking a dump for so long I thought you’d fallen in,” Yan Muer said, sitting cross-legged on the bed. The bed was covered with fruit and snacks from the table. Though her manners were not exactly refined, a beauty eating anything was still a sight to behold.
Ye Li slowly sat down in the chair beside her and said coldly, “Fox spirit, don’t come bother me. I’m in a bad mood.”
“I don’t know why, but I’m in a particularly good mood right now,” Yan Muer said, blinking her mischievous eyes. She was adorable beyond words.
“Don’t provoke me!” Ye Li barked. She was in no mood to trade barbs with Yan Muer.
Yan Muer spread her hands. What, so she couldn’t handle it?
By then, Ye Kun had already changed into a bright red wedding robe. On the way back, he had been thinking about a few things.
For example, if there was someone Kun bro desperately wanted dead, that person would never die. And the things Kun bro did not want would always rush straight toward him.
It seemed that from now on, he would have to act in reverse. He would keep the Ye family of the Great Capital in mind for this account; there would be plenty of time to settle it later.
For now, there was still business to attend to. Inside the room, two wives were waiting for the wedding chamber... but... it was really a little inconvenient.
He let out a soft sigh and walked toward his room.
Inside, the two girls ignored each other entirely: one ate, the other sat in a daze.
Then footsteps sounded outside, and Ye Li and Yan Muer both startled.
Yan Muer hurriedly put the food back on the table, draped the red veil over herself, and sat properly at the edge of the bed.
Ye Li simply covered herself and sat on the other side of the bed, leaving an empty space in the middle, after all, that was where the man was supposed to sit.
Ye Kun stood at the door, thinking about how he should speak once he went in. What if they made demands of him? Should he resist a little? Or just lie down and enjoy it?
Forget it. One step at a time.
Still, in Ye Kun’s heart, there was no emotion here at all; even sleeping beside them felt awkward, let alone anything else.
After all, Kun bro preferred spiritual love, not physical love.
If they insisted, he would not mind teaching them what it meant for husband and wife to treat each other with respect.
Pushing the door open, Ye Kun’s eyes instinctively fell on his two beautiful wives.
To say Kun bro was not happy would be a lie. Any man who married two girls like these would be grinning like a fool.
But Kun bro was very good at putting on airs.
Gently closing the door behind him, Ye Kun began to feel a little nervous.
And it was not just Ye Kun; Yan Muer and Ye Li were both getting nervous too.
What if this little bald monk made some sort of demand? If they resisted, wouldn’t their image collapse? If they did not resist, wouldn’t they be the ones taking the loss?
No matter how they looked at it, it was not a good deal.
Ye Kun saw that the fruit and pastries on the table had been eaten down a little and thought that they must have been waiting and getting hungry.
It had taken him nearly half an hour to go back and forth, and they had not complained once. They were rather considerate, actually.
Better finish the ceremony first.
Picking up the ceremonial rod beside him, Ye Kun walked up to his wives and noticed that both of their hands were rubbing together tightly. It seemed they were nervous too. That put him at ease.
He gently lifted one veil. To be honest, Ye Kun did not even know which one was which, since their figures were about the same.
“My husband~”
Damn, it was Yan Muer. Hearing her call him husband in that soft, sweet voice made Kun bro’s brows shoot up.
Did she really have to be this coy...
But it had to be said, Muer looked truly beautiful right now. Ye Kun could not help wanting to look at her a little longer, especially those blue eyes, like jewels from the sea.
Yan Muer silently cursed that little bald monk. If you dare be rude later, I’ll bite you to death.
Ye Kun withdrew his gaze and lifted Ye Li’s red veil. But when he saw Ye Li’s suffocatingly beautiful face, he froze in surprise. Why were her eyes red?
Yan Muer, watching from the side, thought to herself, You really know how to play tricks. The scheming woman my master talks about is exactly like you.
Then Ye Li suddenly threw herself into Ye Kun’s arms and clung to him tightly.
Right now, Ye Li needed comfort. The death of her little insect truly saddened her, but she could not say it out loud... she felt so wronged it could kill her.
Ye Kun looked completely at a loss, not even knowing where to put his hands.
“What’s wrong?”
“Hubby... I missed you...” Ye Li said through a choked sob.
Yan Muer thought to herself that this was impressive indeed. She really knew how to please her husband. They had not seen each other for half an hour and she was already crying like this; if they went a whole day without seeing each other, would you not hang yourself from the rafters?
Even if it was a lie, it was pleasant to hear. For a man, being missed by a woman like this was pure bliss.
Ye Kun gently placed a hand on Ye Li’s back and patted her lightly.
“I’m here, aren’t I? Don’t cry.”
“Waaah...” With that, Ye Li only cried harder.
Since she was a child, Ye Li had rarely cried. Because of her identity, crying would bring shame upon her father. No matter how wronged she felt, she had to bear it. After growing up and taking over her father’s position, she had become even less able to cry, because she had to command many people and project dominance.
For so many years, who knew the grievances she had carried in her heart? She had wanted, too, to live freely and unrestrainedly, like other girls.
Thinking of all she had been through, Ye Li’s sobbing only grew louder, until even Ye Qin outside heard his sister-in-law crying.
He thought to himself that his elder brother was ruthless indeed, to have made his sister-in-law cry like this.
