Chapter 79: Brother Shuang Refuses to Submit
This was Yuan Zhen’s heartfelt cry. Facing those from Tai Capital, to remain so calm and unflustered in the midst of danger—only my Brother Kun could manage such composure.
“You, kid, just wait for my Brother Kun. He’ll be right there!” Feng Dian immediately shouted at Tong Ge. If you want to mess with my Brother Kun, you’ll have to get in line behind us brothers!
From below the stage, Ye Qin chuckled softly. Brother is still the same as ever—truly, what could stir his emotions? It’s hard to imagine anything making him lose his cool.
Ye Ming and Dongmen Meng said nothing, but they felt Kun Kun was handling things with remarkable composure. Later, when they went with Qin Qin to Ankang Prefecture, they could rest a little easier.
At this moment, Tong Ge’s breathing quickened, his chest rising and falling. That damned baldhead looked down on him!
He even dared make him wait! In Tai Capital, Tong Ge always walked with his nose in the air—who would dare make him wait?
It seemed they wouldn’t recognize Tong Ge’s strength until they saw blood.
“Senior, it’s time for you to act,” Tong Ge said quietly, struggling to control his anger, still trying to maintain a dignified appearance.
The Sword Emperor behind Tong Ge looked puzzled. “Act? Aren’t you here to snatch the bride?”
Tong Ge nearly spat blood. Must he spell everything out for this man before he’d do anything?
“Show them my might! Got it?”
“Oh, I see. You should’ve said so earlier.”
Tong Ge was speechless, no longer wanting to explain. Just get on with it, before I lose my composure.
He waited a moment, but the Sword Emperor behind him made no move, driving Tong Ge to the brink of madness. “What are you doing?!”
“Waiting for you,” the Sword Emperor replied softly.
“Waiting for what?!”
“Weren’t you going to show them your strength?”
Tong Ge nearly fainted. My god, how he wished he could just die! What sort of person had he hired? If not for his ability to float, Tong Ge would suspect he was a fake Sword Emperor.
With Tong Ge’s status, approaching a Sword Emperor was already difficult, let alone having one do his bidding. Proud as he was, Tong Ge could only resort to the Mercenary Guild to hire someone.
And so he hired this Sword Emperor. Now, he resolved that once this was over, he’d leave a scathing review at the Mercenary Guild!
Meanwhile, Ye Yushu and Dongfang Shuang assumed Tong Ge must have considerable influence to arrange for a Sword Emperor, and they felt a certain respect.
“Hey! Are you going to snatch the bride or not?!”
“Yeah, we haven’t even had the wedding wine yet.”
“Why not snatch the bride and drink at the same time? It could spice things up—what do you all say?”
Tong Ge shook his head stiffly. These wild countryfolk had never seen the world, treating this as child’s play! If he revealed his name, they’d flee in terror!
“Kill a few to make an example!” Listening to the jeering of the rabble around him, Tong Ge could no longer tolerate it.
The Sword Emperor paused, then spoke softly. “According to the contract, the employer must be in mortal danger before I can retaliate. As a proper mercenary, I cannot kill indiscriminately—that would violate Tai Capital law.”
“Then what can you do?” Tong Ge’s voice grew colder, dropping all pretenses of respect.
“I can help intimidate them a little,” the Sword Emperor replied with a gentle laugh. A terrifying aura suddenly radiated from him, spreading in a circle toward the crowd.
Even a hint of a Sword Emperor’s aura was unbearable for ordinary people—it would cause blood to flow from every orifice, leading to death.
This was a prelude to slaughter.
Ye Ming’s expression darkened. He stepped forward and instantly dispersed the Sword Emperor’s aura.
The crowd fell silent. Though not struck directly, the oppressive force left them breathless.
The scene was hushed. Tong Ge was satisfied; this was the proper expression for a bride-snatching!
“Remember to leave a good review when the time comes.”
“That depends on your performance,” Tong Ge retorted, now unwilling to give him any face.
The Sword Emperor’s face darkened slightly. “If you don’t leave a good review, I’ll kill your entire family!”
Dongmen Meng called out sweetly, “Everyone, we have some private matters to settle. Today’s festivities end here. Thank you for attending my son’s wedding.”
Hearing they could leave, the guests breathed a sigh of relief. They hurried to go—any longer and they feared they wouldn’t get the chance.
Feng Dian and Yuan Zhen wanted to stay and see what would happen, but their abilities didn’t permit it.
Better to slip away now, though it was a pity they couldn’t witness Brother Kun’s brilliance.
Tong Ge didn’t obstruct them; it was just as well, since some matters required secrecy.
But Elder Wei remained, drinking alone.
Ye Yushu could sense that everyone had left—it was time for him to awaken from his stupor.
He shook his head and slowly stood, hair disheveled, losing the polished image of a Tai Capital scion.
Tong Ge breathed a little easier seeing Ye Yushu up; now that he was awake, he could help. That Sword Emperor was unreliable.
Ye Yushu shook Dongfang Shuang gently. “Stop pretending. Get up, everyone’s gone.”
But Dongfang Shuang showed no reaction, truly unconscious.
Ye Yushu noticed, sighed, and took out a small bottle, opening it beneath Dongfang Shuang’s nose.
Dongfang Shuang frowned, then sat up abruptly. “Where am I? What am I doing?”
Ye Yushu coughed lightly, reminding him not to disgrace Tai Capital.
Dongfang Shuang glanced at the wedding stage and remembered—they had come to snatch the bride with Tong Ge!
He dusted off his robe and stood with hands behind his back, but he looked like a fallen noble, hair messy and his hairpin shattered.
“Muer, don’t be afraid! Shuang-ge has come to save you!” Dongfang Shuang called to Ye Li on the stage, spreading his arms, kicking off with his right leg, creating a scene of perfect elegance—a handsome man floating toward his beloved, his lips curled in a confident smile.
Bang!
How did he get there, and how did he end up back? Dongfang Shuang lay on the ground, unconscious once more.
Ye Qin drew in a sharp breath—sister-in-law was so violent!
An image arose in his mind: brother being handled by sister-in-law, just as mother treated father.
Brother had indeed followed father’s path.
Ye Li was thoroughly irritated. Not only did her wedding encounter a bride-snatching, but they even snatched the wrong person! Did they leave their brains at home?
Dongfang Shuang felt wronged, having been dizzy from start to finish—how could he know?
“Muer! What are you doing?” Ye Yushu shouted at Ye Li. This was outrageous! Just because she was pretty didn’t mean she could do as she pleased!
Tong Ge had guessed as much—this wasn’t Muer. The one who’d just been carried away was likely Muer.
“Brother Ye, this isn’t Muer,” Tong Ge whispered.
“Then who is she?”
“She’s Baldhead’s other bride.”
Ye Yushu was stunned. “What! Are you saying Muer and another woman are both marrying Baldhead?”
