Chapter 29: Shall We Invite a Monk to Take a Look?
Ye Kun never expected that this system would turn hostile in the blink of an eye.
“Don’t get upset, let’s talk this out.”
“There’s nothing to discuss! Either you become my host, or I’ll destroy you right now!”
The system’s words were as forceful as steel. Ye Kun could tell this system wasn’t joking. What should he do? He truly didn’t want it, but he didn’t want to compromise either. And this system seemed rather peculiar.
“Let me think it over.”
“Hurry up! My patience is wearing thin!”
Ye Kun frantically searched for a way to save himself. He was trapped in his own mind, unable to wake up. Though he often boasted about not fearing death, this way of dying was far too humiliating—people would think he’d been struck by lightning. It’d be a joke, and his mother and the others would be heartbroken.
Just as Ye Kun was desperately thinking of a solution, he suddenly sensed several more systems approach. What now, are these systems trying to hijack him?
“Academy System, surrender now!” A cold, chilling voice rang out, filled with murderous intent.
The Academy System, which had just been so aggressive, seemed startled!
“You—you found me! How?!”
“Hmph! Have you forgotten? In the world of systems, you must address your host with respect. Did you forget what you just said?”
The Academy System nearly broke down. All because of this bald brat—if he hadn’t made me so angry and irrational, would I be in this mess? If I’d just made him my host, these guys would never have tracked me down!
“You bald brat, it’s all your fault! I’ve been captured! I curse you to be bald forever!”
Ye Kun was a calm person, but—why curse him to be bald?
He was furious!
Ye Kun pointed at the air and shouted, “You idiot! Do you take me for a fool? I saw through you from the start! You were so eager for me to accept you—clearly you had ulterior motives! Good thing I didn’t fall for your trap, or I’d have suffered greatly!”
“You dare call me an idiot? You bald brat, you’ll never have hair in this life!”
“You’re the idiot!”
“Bald!”
“Idiot!”
“Bald!”
“Idiot!”
“Bald!”
“Take the Academy System away for judgment!”
“Yes!”
Though he couldn’t see, Ye Kun could feel the system being taken away.
“I must apologize. This individual was a wanted criminal in our system world. Fortunately, we encountered you, or he wouldn’t have slipped up. Child, you are truly outstanding. As a system, I sincerely admire you.”
Ye Kun calmed down. What? Does this mean I helped you catch a criminal?
What on earth was going on? First it was an assassin, now a wanted system?
“You might be mistaken,” Ye Kun began to explain.
“Child, you needn’t say more. To resist such temptation—so few in this world could do it. You are the most exceptional child I have ever seen, bar none.”
He hadn’t resisted temptation—he simply didn’t need it…
Why did no one understand this simple truth?
But for now, it was best to send the systems away before anything else happened.
“Thank you for your praise, but I have matters to attend to. Until we meet again,” Ye Kun said with a respectful gesture.
“Child, your integrity is like a clear mirror. You even helped us capture a wanted criminal. I must reward you with something as thanks.”
Ye Kun hesitated and quickly shook his head. “There’s really no need. Eliminating evil is only right; I truly don’t need a reward.”
“You… you’re too exceptional. I was just going to give you something simple, but now I must reconsider.”
Pfft!
Ye Kun nearly fainted from frustration, but suddenly his head spun.
This was the first time he’d seen someone knock a person out just to give them a reward…
In Ye Kun’s room.
Ye Ming and the others stood by, their faces troubled. The child had been rambling incoherently, shouting and sobbing in confusion, as if in great distress.
But after Dongmen Meng examined him, she found nothing else wrong, and the couple exchanged glances…
It felt just like that year.
“Husband, should we call that monk again to check on Kun Kun? Is he possessed?” Dongmen Meng whispered by the bedside.
“No!” Ye Kun shouted suddenly.
He had just woken up to hear his mother suggest calling the same monk as before. Last time, the monk had left him bald—if it happened again, who knew where he’d lose hair next…
“Brother, you’re finally awake! Are you alright? You were talking nonsense just now, like you were possessed. You scared me to death.” Ye Qin, sitting at the bedside, grasped Ye Kun’s hand, his eyes full of worry.
The two brothers gazed at each other in profound, wordless affection.
Ye Kun cleared his throat. “I’m fine. I just had a frightening dream. Father, Mother, don’t worry, I’m alright.”
“Kun Kun, you’ll stay home to recover for a few days. No need to go to the training academy,” Dongmen Meng said gently, her heart aching for her son, struck by lightning as he was.
Hearing that he couldn’t go train, Ye Kun panicked. “Mother, it’s alright. I feel much better and can go to the academy!”
Ye Ming nodded approvingly. This child was sure to become someone great.
“Qin Qin, look at your brother. Even after all this, he’s eager to train. You should learn from him,” Ye Ming instructed his younger son, thinking how much better it would be if Qin Qin were more like Kun Kun; this child was always superior to others.
Ye Qin listened earnestly. “Don’t worry, Father. I’ll definitely learn from my brother.”
Ye Kun didn’t know what to say. He really was fine—why did everyone look at him as if he wouldn’t last the night?
“Kun Kun, be good. I know you’re hardworking, but wait until you’re fully recovered. I’ll make you something to eat. Don’t get out of bed, or I’ll be upset,” Dongmen Meng said sternly, though her eyes were filled with warmth.
Ye Kun nodded obediently.
“Qin Qin, don’t disturb your brother’s rest. I want to hear about that ten-gold-coin story,” Dongmen Meng said as she left.
Ye Kun: “…”
Ye Qin: “…”
Watching his younger brother leave, Ye Kun could almost see his mother scolding him the way she scolded their father.
Poor brother—he’d warned him not to emulate their father.
Once everyone had left, Ye Kun lay weakly on the bed. Could it have all been a dream?
It had scared him to death, but thankfully, it was just a dream. Thank the heavens—he hadn’t really helped catch a criminal, nor received any reward. What a relief.
He threw back the covers and sat up, feeling much better now that everything was normal.
He patted his stomach, feeling a bit hungry.
Suddenly, something felt odd. Why did his stomach feel uneven?
He looked down.
What—!
Abs!
Could these abs be the result of being struck by lightning? He touched his chest—there were the lines of pectoral muscles too!
