Chapter 138: Would You Die in My Place? (Third Update)
Mother has already cleared away the hidden dangers for you.
Everyone’s expressions changed abruptly as they instantly understood the reason behind Wang Yu’s actions: she wanted to provide her son with a safe environment!
Wang Yu turned to her son, Pan Gaozhi, gently stroking his cheek. “Live well, my son. Don’t think about avenging your father and mother. They will be watching over you from the heavens, blessing and protecting you.”
Daci exhaled in relief, finally witnessing a great mother. Why hadn’t she stepped forward earlier? That way, only she would have to sacrifice herself.
There was no way Wang Yu would die in place of the Pan family.
Tears streamed down Pan Gaozhi’s face as he looked at his mother. “Mother… I will obey.”
“You’re a good child,” Wang Yu said softly with a gentle smile. She stood up and walked to the front of the line.
Dong Ci nodded appreciatively. He admired such a woman—more manly than any man!
“Roll call! Line up properly!”
“Father! Mother! I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die!!!” Pan Pingping was losing his mind, clutching his hair with both hands. His hairpin fell to the ground, long hair disheveled—he looked like a mad ghost.
Dong Ci chuckled, “If you don’t want to die, then find someone to take your place.”
“Take my place?” Pan Pingping seemed to have found a life-saving straw and began scanning around frantically, finally spotting his wife.
Pan Pingping strode over quickly, grabbing Ba Wanqing’s delicate hands in his. “Wanqing, I haven’t treated you badly, right? You’ve seen everything these past few years. Now it’s time for you to repay me—go die in my place, okay?”
Dong Ci and Daci had seen shameless people before, but never anyone this shameless in all their lives.
Today was truly an eye-opener.
Ba Wanqing was stunned. She never expected the man she had entrusted her life to would say such a thing…
Not long ago, he had whispered sweet words indoors, promising to protect her for life, even to shield her from death itself.
But now…
If it were Ye Qin, he would have stood without hesitation in front of her, blocking any blade or sword!
Ba Wanqing suddenly smiled, a trace of sadness in her expression.
Ba Tai looked at his daughter and sighed deeply.
“What are you smiling at? Isn’t this what you should do? I’ve done so much for you! My father has done so much for your father! What’s wrong with you dying for me?” Pan Pingping was already mad. His once handsome face twisted into a grotesque snarl, eyes bulging like copper bells.
“I won’t,” Ba Wanqing said calmly.
Pan Pingping was stunned, staring blankly at Ba Wanqing before him.
“No! You ungrateful woman! It’s time for you to repay me, and you say no! Ungrateful woman! Die!” Pan Pingping lifted his foot and kicked fiercely at Ba Wanqing’s abdomen.
Bang!
The tremendous force sent Ba Wanqing flying backward, crashing hard against the courtyard wall, which immediately cracked!
Pan Pingping had once been a swordsman apprentice and was now a swordsman—his kick held considerable power. Fortunately, Ba Wanqing’s talent was no less; she had just advanced to swordsman level.
But how could Ba Wanqing have anticipated such a kick?
She slumped against the wall, staring down at the blood pooling beneath her, pale and weak, then fainted.
“Wanqing!” Ba Tai roared angrily and rushed to his daughter’s side. Seeing the blood, he realized Pan Pingping’s kick had even injured the child!
“Pan Pingping! I will kill you!” Ba Tai’s fury erupted.
But Dong Ci waved his hand lightly. Ba Tai was thrown backward, crashing into the wall before landing beside Ba Wanqing.
“You don’t have that qualification yet,” Dong Ci said coldly.
He then continued, “Everyone, gather in the center! Before I lose my patience!”
Pan Pingping saw his wife wouldn’t save him, so he begged others, but no one from the Pan family agreed. Finally, he looked to his parents.
“Father, mother! Save me, I don’t want to die!!!” Pan Pingping cried like a child.
Pan Ming and Liu Ru looked at their son with disappointment and frustration. He was hopeless, even worse than Pan Sheng.
Daci suddenly said, “If someone is willing to die in your place, you can make an exchange.”
This was a glimmer of new hope.
But neither Wang Yu nor Pan Sheng reacted. Wang Yu hoped to go with her husband, and Pan Sheng knew no one would save him.
The Pan family of three immediately turned to face everyone else.
Everyone turned their heads at that moment.
“Ah, the head of the family has come to such a state—truly pitiful,” Dong Ci sighed deeply. How utterly failed a man could be.
Pan Ming’s face twitched, trembling as he pointed at everyone. “Who provided you with food and clothing? Who gave you wealth and honor? Me, Pan Ming! Without me, you’d still be in some backwater county!”
“A bunch of traitorous wolves! Even if I, Liu Ru, die, I won’t let you off!” she spat.
“Father, mother, save me!” Pan Pingping clung to their legs, crying out.
Dong Ci and Daci felt as if it wasn’t them who were about to kill these people but rather that these family members wanted to kill each other.
This was almost a charitable act on their part. Truly admirable. They should learn more from their teacher.
“I’m willing!” Pan Gaozhi suddenly shouted from within the line, willing to die in his mother’s place.
Everyone couldn’t help but admire such courage—it was truly going to die for someone!
Wang Yu turned back to her son, a look of pride on her face. “Gaozhi, your father and mother are proud of you, but I oppose your choice.”
“Is that alright?” Wang Yu asked Dong Ci after speaking.
Dong Ci nodded, showing respect for everyone’s decision.
However, the Pan family felt puzzled. It was others coming to take their lives, so why did it seem as if they were the good ones?
Don’t they realize that they are the villains?
Both Dong Ci and Daci felt as if they were merely cleaning up someone else’s family affairs—doing a good deed...
Daci exhaled and silenced the five with a gesture, then approached Wang Yu.
“You are a brave wife and a great mother. I truly admire you.”
She then moved to Pan Sheng, speaking coolly, “You have had a tragic past but have done nothing about it. You complain every day but gain no recognition. In your next life, do more and complain less!”
Pan Sheng whimpered in fear.
“You, woman, are rather vicious,” Daci said, evaluating Liu Ru.
Then she approached Pan Ming and whispered, “You are a failed head of the family. No one is willing to die for you. Don’t blame them—that’s all your own doing. Great heads of the family have followers willing to sacrifice their lives.”
Suddenly, Daci thought of something amusing and whispered into Pan Ming’s ear, “Ye Kun is not someone you can provoke!”
Pan Ming’s pupils contracted sharply. He wanted to scream, but no sound came out. Those behind him thought he had gone mad.
But in his heart, Pan Ming shouted, impossible! Ye Kun!
That bald kid!
He had briefly considered Ye Ming but never imagined it was actually Ye Kun!
