From this, it was evident that the invincible image Li Yang had consistently cultivated remained remarkably successful.
This was also the very reason why they had always remained utterly devoted to him.
"Since that is the case, you should go and prepare for the relocation matters. By the way, take these two little mice along and deliver them to Dr. Yorkson."
Naturally, Li Yang was unaware of the thoughts running through the minds of his two subordinates. He pointed at Victor and Jimmy lying on the ground, waving his hand to signal their withdrawal.
"As you command, Your Majesty!"
Looking at Victor and Jimmy, who were utterly paralyzed on the ground, a ferocious grin appeared on Lucien's face.
He was intimately familiar with these two brothers. During the campaigns where human forces surrounded and annihilated the werewolves, it had always been these two brothers leading the charge at the forefront. Lucien had even crossed paths with them in combat on more than one occasion.
When it came to combat experience, the two brothers were naturally not a match for him, but their monstrous self-healing ability had always left a deep impression on him. It was precisely because of that freakish regenerative power that he was repeatedly dragged down by them, which was also a major reason why their werewolf clan had suffered heavy losses.
Li Yang naturally noticed the expression on Lucien's face, but he chose not to interfere.
Anyway, these two brothers possessed thick skin and resilient flesh, so they would not come to any real harm under normal circumstances. Furthermore, they were tyrannical in temperament and completely devoid of reverence. It would be fitting for Lucien to teach them a lesson and rein in their arrogance.
...
Meanwhile, at the military base in the suburbs of London.
"Shit... Is this what you call a job well done?"
Looking at the disheveled and wretched-looking diminutive black man and Colonel James who had fled back, Marshal Hawk was utterly consumed by a fury that burned like a raging fire.
One had to know that in order to secure the opportunity to launch this campaign against both the vampire and werewolf clans, he had stood up to the pressure of the Prime Minister and given a military pledge before the highest echelons of the Empire.
Initially, everything had indeed proceeded as he envisioned, and the plan had gone very smoothly. To prevent any escaping fish from slipping through the net, he had even deliberately mobilized elite troops from the military to form a temporary combat regiment, launching a complete encirclement of the vampire castle.
Yet he never expected that after a night of fierce combat, not only had the entire regiment of troops been utterly wiped out, but even the special supernatural task force—which he had specially selected from among criminals nationwide using the special authorization he extracted from Her Majesty the Queen—had been completely destroyed in this battle. How could he possibly accept such an outcome?
For a moment, Marshal Hawk felt the heavens spin and the earth go dark, as if the entire world were revolving around him. He instantly collapsed powerlessly into his chair.
"Marshal, this subordinate has failed in battle and begs to atone for my sins with my death!"
Seeing Marshal Hawk collapsed in the chair with eyes devoid of any luster, James wore an expression of profound shame. He drew the pistol from his waist, pressed the muzzle against his temple, and prepared to end it all.
"NO... Colonel James, do not be so hasty to atone for your sins. Perhaps there is still a turning point."
Witnessing Colonel James's action, the tiny black man inwardly cursed him as an "asshole" while frantically lunging forward to snatch the pistol from James's grip.
Naturally, he was not afraid of Colonel James committing suicide, nor did he share any deep friendship with James. Even bringing James along when escaping back here was done purely for his own self-preservation.
If James were killed, his own fate would be all too predictable. With the entire military force wiped out and only he returning without a single scratch, would Marshal Hawk spare him? That was why he had brought James back with him—so that James could act as a scapegoat for him.
Now, if James were allowed to commit suicide, all his efforts would have been in vain, and there would no longer be any place for him to hide within the entire British Empire.
"Marshal, please listen to me. Isn't there still more than a month left before the deadline of your military pledge? At worst, we can remobilize our troops and make a comeback. We have long since figured out the background of the vampire clan; we can simply attack during daylight hours, utilizing heavy firepower bombardment to deny them any place to hide."
Casting a cautious glance at Marshal Hawk, who remained slumped in the chair, the diminutive black man rolled his eyes and offered his suggestion.
"Right... We still have time, and we still have a chance!"
Hearing these words, Marshal Hawk felt as though he had grabbed onto a straw of life. He instantly straightened up from the chair, his spirit reviving as he shouted with great excitement.
"Our most urgent task right now is to thoroughly investigate the movements of the vampires and werewolves. Gershen, this matter will be entrusted to you."
Glancing down at the tiny black man, Marshal Hawk spoke with utmost solemnity.
Upon hearing the marshal's words, the diminutive black man wished he could slap himself twice. He must have been out of his mind; why did he have to run his mouth? Now, look where they were—the reconnaissance mission had fallen squarely onto his shoulders. Even though he possessed the superpower of teleportation, given how cowardly and protective of his own life he had always been, this was a highly challenging mission where a single misstep could cost him his dear life.
Yet he also understood that this assignment was bound to fall on him eventually, especially since Marshal Hawk had practically no one else left to use. Unless he was ready to give up living in the British Empire entirely, this task belonged to him beyond a shadow of a doubt.
"Understood, Marshal!"
Therefore, no matter how much reluctance he felt in his heart, he had to bite the bullet and accept the order.
"Very well. If this mission is successfully completed, the Empire will not treat you unfairly."
Seeing the diminutive black man's attitude, Marshal Hawk nodded with satisfaction, not forgetting to offer a few words of encouragement. Then, turning his gaze toward James, he said, "Colonel James, I hereby formally appoint you as Chief of Staff of the First Army. Take my documentation and go mobilize the troops. Remember, everything must be carried out in absolute secrecy."
Signing a document with a flick of his wrist and handing it over to James, Marshal Hawk spoke with grave seriousness.
"Yes, Marshal! Mission guaranteed!"
Unlike the tiny black man, Colonel James accepted the document from Marshal Hawk's hands without the slightest hesitation, saluting with an expression of unwavering determination.
He now held a resolute mentality of succeeding or perishing in the attempt. Having been promoted all the way from an ordinary civilian by Marshal Hawk, he was naturally no coward, but a genuine man of action. This campaign to exterminate the vampires and werewolves had not failed due to poor tactical planning on his part; rather, it was because the disparity in strength was simply too vast, compounded by the presence of a traitor within their own ranks, which ultimately led to a total defeat.
"By the way, you haven't leaked the news of the entire army's annihilation, have you?"
As his two subordinates were about to step out of the conference room, Marshal Hawk seemed to recall something and stood up to ask.
"Reporting to the Marshal, this matter has not yet spread widely, though before long, the higher-ups of the Empire will likely find out. As everyone knows, those ancient aristocrats have always maintained ties with the vampire clan."
Although somewhat puzzled as to why Marshal Hawk would ask such a question, James still answered with solemn sincerity.
In contrast, the tiny black man showed little reaction, merely staring at Marshal Hawk in utter confusion—from this, the difference in discipline and bearing between a professional soldier and an ordinary person was plainly evident.
"It is good that it hasn't leaked. You must remember: from this moment on, the special task force is still executing its mission and has not been wiped out. If anyone asks, you will both answer accordingly."
After pondering for a moment, Marshal Hawk stated without blushing or skipping a beat.
This was merely a petty tactic among politicians. As long as the deadline of his military pledge had not yet arrived, he could simply refuse to acknowledge the truth, and even if others knew, there was nothing they could do to him.
"Why?"
Compared to Colonel James, who simply acknowledged the order and prepared to leave, the diminutive black man finally voiced the doubt lingering in his heart.
"You don't need to know why. Just do as I say!"
Helplessly shaking his head, Hawk thought that while these mutants were certainly useful, their personalities were simply impossible to train. In a military camp, questioning a superior officer's orders was a grave offense. Though feeling irritated, Marshal Hawk had no intention of punishing him at a time when manpower was critically needed; instead, he merely glared at him fiercely.
...
In the estate outside London, following more than a week of transfer operations, all the supplies from the vampire castle had been successfully moved into Li Yang's estate.
The personnel had also completely relocated here. Fortunately, Li Yang's estate was sufficiently expansive; otherwise, an ordinary place truly could not have accommodated such a large population.
At this moment, in the spacious hall at the front of the estate, the upper echelons of both the vampire and werewolf clans gathered around a massive conference table, initiating yet another serum distribution meeting.
This time, the vampire clan was represented not only by Amelia, but even the long-absent Marcus participated as well.
"A total of five doses of the Phase 1 serum were produced in the laboratory this past month. Previously, we distributed them according to the proportion of resources each side contributed. However, last month both of our clans became entangled in the human extermination campaign, so that distribution formula is naturally no longer applicable. Regarding this allocation, His Majesty has decreed that you shall discuss and decide among yourselves."
Seated at the head of the conference table was Dr. Yorkson, the current head of the laboratory.
As he spoke, Dr. Yorkson took a metal case handed over by his assistant and opened it. Inside lay five crystal-clear, breathtakingly exquisite glass test tubes radiating a golden, flowing light.
"Is this the Phase 1 serum? Truly magnificent..."
"Indeed... This is my first time laying eyes on it..."
"Such a divine creation... So this is what it looks like..."
"..."
The instant the Phase 1 serum was exposed, the gazes of everyone in the conference room locked onto it, and a wave of animated discussion immediately erupted. Faced with the collective greedy stares, Dr. Yorkson could not help feeling a slight tingling across his scalp.
The vampire clan was relatively restrained, maintaining some decorum since they styled themselves as aristocrats of the night. The werewolf clan, however, harbored no such reservations. Every single one of them widened their eyes, the greed in their gazes undisguised. A few individuals who struggled to suppress their feral instincts even grew restless, practically itching to pounce forward and seize the serum.
"Cough, cough... All right, Doctor, put the serum away!"
Witnessing the unsightly expressions of his subordinates, Lucien glared fiercely at them. When that failed to have much effect, he had no choice but to clear his throat and remind Dr. Yorkson.
He was genuinely afraid that some idiot among his subordinates would lose self-control and cause a farcical scene, which would bring utter disgrace upon them all.
He was, after all, a commanding leader of a faction nowadays, and he still cared about saving face—especially after following Li Yang, which made him constantly mindful of maintaining dignity.
This was not out of sheer vanity, but because he knew that while the great Majesty never spoke of it overtly, deep down he actually preferred subordinates who possessed refined manners.
One could tell simply by observing how Li Yang treated the vampire clan. When the vampires first pledged allegiance to the great Majesty, their treatment was far inferior to that of the werewolves. Yet now, they had overtaken them. From every subtle emotional shift displayed by Majesty Li, Lucien could perceive that the great Majesty was slowly beginning to alter his perception of them.
And that was certainly not a very favorable omen.
