Chapter Twenty-Eight: Suppression [Please Subscribe]
Trist, who had witnessed the scene from the side, looked exceedingly grim, his heart wavering with indecision.
“Go! Boom... rumble... crack...”
Only when Jimmy turned his gaze toward him did Trist grit his teeth. A mass of scarlet energy erupted from his hand and crashed viciously into the ground.
Under cover of the violent tremors, Trist swiftly sprinted toward the edge of the altar.
“Take Victor with you. I’ll hold him back!”
Seeing Trist move, Jimmy exerted all his strength and instantly hurled Victor away. Bone spurs thrust from both his hands, and, like a maddened beast, he lunged at Li Yang.
“Hmph.”
Gazing at the swaying alchemy furnace before him, Li Yang gave a cold snort. His magical power erupted, and a violent storm centered on him blasted away the shards of stone hurtling toward him. With both hands, he struck out golden seals one after another, stabilizing the furnace. At the same time, his expression turned utterly cold.
“An ant trying to shake the heavens. You truly have no idea how close you are to death!”
Looking at the cracks and pits that had split across the altar, Li Yang’s expression became even more unsightly.
This altar was a blood-sacrifice formation he had painstakingly built to gather the spiritual energy of Heaven and Earth and refine the blood of ancient beasts. Yet it had been damaged by a mere ant. The fury and savagery buried within his heart surged forth in an instant. A phantom of a scarlet-gold, six-winged golden centipede burst from his body and shot toward Trist.
“Clear skies and radiant earth, grant me divine power; with my sacred decree, seal and suppress the divine form!”
Facing Jimmy as he pounced toward him, Li Yang used his finger as a brush, magical power as ink, and the void as paper. In an instant, he inscribed a golden sealing talisman and sent it flying.
“Bang!”
Just as Jimmy reached Li Yang and leapt into the air, he slammed headlong into the golden sealing talisman. His entire body instantly lost all strength, and he crashed heavily to the ground, unable to move even a finger.
Li Yang glanced at Jimmy, who lay motionless on the ground, glaring at him with murderous hatred, but paid him no heed. His expressionless gaze turned toward Trist, who was still fleeing.
“Hissss... screeeee...”
With a thought, the six-winged golden centipede let out a shrill cry. Its six wings spread wide, and it transformed into a streak of golden light before hurtling viciously toward the two fugitives.
“Hold it back!”
Setting down Victor, who had already regained consciousness, Trist looked up at the monstrous six-winged centipede diving from the sky. Scarlet radiance spilled from his body and condensed into a crimson energy shield before him. His eyes were filled with grim resolve.
“Rumble... crack...”
Wrapped in a fierce storm, the six-winged golden centipede plunged downward. With a thunderous explosion, the energy shield shattered like glass, splitting into countless deep cracks before dissolving into a faint glow that scattered through the air. The tremendous shock wave sent Trist flying far away.
“Pfft...”
Trist struggled shakily to his feet, but before he could steady himself, he threw back his head and spat out a mouthful of dark red blood. His face instantly turned deathly pale.
“Obstinate fools!”
Looking at Victor rising from the ground and Trist in the distance, energy still gathering in his hands, Li Yang’s eyes turned cold.
Deep down, Li Yang had never truly wanted to kill them. Wolverine’s and Victor’s immortality might be difficult for others to deal with, but if he wished, a single breath of solar true fire would be enough to destroy them.
Although mutants possessed flawed genes, they were undeniably creatures of immense potential. Indeed, the potential of the strongest mutants in certain aspects was no less than that of ancient beasts and divine creatures born of Heaven and Earth.
Li Yang could absorb the innate gifts of ancient beasts, and naturally, he could absorb the gifts of mutants as well. If he found one suitable, he would not object to blood-sacrificing a mutant and making that being his bonded beast.
However, he knew nothing about the various traits or genetic structures of mutants. He could not even determine the origin of their abilities. Moreover, he had only nine positions for bonded beasts, and once a blood sacrifice succeeded, it could never be changed. Until he understood the nature of their powers and the defects in their genes, Li Yang would not foolishly attempt to sacrifice one.
Wolverine’s and Sabretooth’s immortality might appear tempting, but in his eyes, it was of limited value. Once he cultivated the Thunder Body, his entire form could transform into lightning. Though he would lack their regenerative abilities, ordinary attacks would no longer be able to harm him. Against divine techniques capable of targeting energy itself, Wolverine’s regenerative power would likely prove useless.
Although the abilities of the three mutants before him were not to his liking, that did not prevent him from taking precautions. As subjects of study, they were clearly quite suitable.
He simply had not expected them to continue struggling even in such desperate circumstances. Their resistance gradually stoked his anger, and he exhaled a golden blast.
“Pfft... hissss...”
“Argh...”
Under the golden breath, Trist did not last even a second before being instantly vaporized. Because of his ability, Victor’s flesh rapidly decayed and regenerated, and he let out a series of agonized howls.
“Bang!”
The six-winged golden centipede dove down, seized Victor—who was still writhing within the poisonous mist—and flung him back before Li Yang. It then transformed into a stream of golden vapor and disappeared into the crown of Li Yang’s head.
......
Elsewhere, within the vampire castle.
The battle was raging. Although the human soldiers were well equipped and rigorously trained, they were facing vampires and werewolves who were agile and possessed extraordinary regenerative abilities.
Given the limitations of the technology of the era, the humans had silver bullets, but ultraviolet lamps were inconvenient to transport. They were therefore unable to inflict large-scale casualties on the vampires and werewolves. Combined with the restrictive terrain of the vampire castle, the human forces were annihilated by the vampires, who had been prepared in advance, before long.
As for the four mutants, apart from the diminutive Black man who possessed the ability to teleport and managed to escape with Colonel James, the remaining three mutants were wiped out by the united forces of the bloodline warlocks.
All in all, the battle ended in total defeat for the humans. The vampires and werewolves had suffered some losses, but most of the dead were merely ordinary members of their kind. Not a single leader had been lost.
......
Early the following morning, Amelia and Lucian arrived together at the manor on the outskirts of London.
“Good morning, Your Majesty!”
Looking at Victor and Jimmy lying motionless beside Li Yang, the two of them were shaken inwardly, but outwardly they did not dare ask a single question.
“Rise.”
Li Yang looked Amelia and Lucian up and down. Seeing that neither had suffered any injuries, he kept his expression unchanged, though inwardly he let out a long sigh of relief.
Since Amelia and Lucian were unharmed, it meant that the human forces had been temporarily driven back and that the plan was proceeding smoothly.
In truth, Li Yang had been worried that something might go wrong. Although the numerous bloodline warlocks should have had little trouble dealing with a few mutants, that had merely been his expectation. If the vampires and werewolves had been wiped out by the human forces, he would likely have found no peace here either.
The Nirvana Golden Elixir was currently at a critical stage, and he had no hands to spare. If the human army launched a large-scale assault on the manor, he was not certain he could repel them while protecting the elixir.
If that caused the refinement of the Nirvana Golden Elixir to fail, it would mean that all his efforts over the past several years had been wasted. Refining the energy of the six-winged golden centipede within his body would then become a distant dream.
“Your Majesty, after last night’s battle, the human forces have suffered a heavy blow at our hands. They will likely restrain their actions against us for a short time.”
Lucian glanced at Li Yang, his expression filled with barely concealed excitement.
During this period, the Lycan clan had suffered devastating losses under the human hunts. Unlike ultraviolet searchlights, silver bullets were simple to manufacture and could therefore be issued on a massive scale.
Moreover, the werewolves had lacked intelligence support. Often, the humans would arrive at their doorstep before they even had time to react. Every time they faced a human purge, they could do nothing but flee in panic. Last night’s battle had finally allowed him to vent the resentment that had built up within him.
“No... I believe we cannot lower our guard. I know the hard-line government officials. After suffering such a heavy loss last night, they will not let the matter rest.”
“With the arrival of the age of firearms, humanity’s development has proceeded smoothly. Even our vampire clan was forced to keep our heads down during humanity’s rise. In nearly a century, the human leadership has never suffered such a humiliating defeat. Knowing them as I do, I believe they will return very soon. They may even dispatch an army to exterminate us.”
Compared with Lucian’s optimism, Amelia’s expression was far more solemn. She had dealt with those bureaucrats too often and naturally understood their vindictive nature.
Perhaps the British Empire had suffered hidden setbacks in its struggles abroad, but within its own borders, those officials were immensely arrogant. How could they possibly swallow the humiliation of suffering such heavy losses at the hands of forces within their own territory?
“Then do this: gather your people and have them stay at the manor for the time being. Until I complete the golden elixir, none of you are to leave. It will also make coordination easier.”
This was a critical period, and no amount of caution was excessive.
For that reason, he decided to consolidate their forces for the time being. The bloodline warlocks had only just begun to develop, while the underground laboratory still required Marcus to guard it. Their shortage of top-tier combatants was severe. If they carelessly allowed an enemy to seize an opening, they could suffer a devastating blow.
In the worst case, the laboratory might be breached, which could even bring the cultivation system of the bloodline warlocks that Li Yang had created to an abrupt end. Such a loss would far outweigh any gain.
“As you command, Your Majesty!”
The moment Li Yang finished speaking, Amelia and Lucian exchanged a glance and both breathed a sigh of relief.
They had wanted to raise this matter long ago, but Li Yang had always preferred peace and solitude, so they had never found it appropriate to bring it up. Whatever strategy the humans might devise, none could pose the slightest obstacle before their mighty sovereign.
They had witnessed Li Yang’s divine abilities and had even experienced them firsthand. Thus, Lucian and Amelia possessed an almost blind confidence in his power.
In their eyes, with the great God of the Bloodline Warlocks seated within the manor, the human forces could never pose the slightest threat, even if they mobilized their entire army.
