Volume One, Chapter 83: See How Kind Your Sister Is
Could this kid really not know to ask around before he left the house about who in the whole of Qingcheng City would dare offend Jiang Chen? The big bosses behind the scenes, upon hearing Jiang Chen’s name, would even show deference to anyone around him, let alone when it comes to illegal activities in Jiang City. Right now, he felt like kicking this boy to death.
“Kneel,” Tong Wujin barked sternly.
Tong Lu cried out, “Brother, aren’t you supposed to be on my side? How did you become a traitor?”
Tong Wujin didn’t waste time arguing—he simply kicked Tong Lu in the knee, and the unbalanced youth collapsed, kneeling on the ground.
Jiang Chen sighed, “Wait a moment, don’t take action yet. Let me tell you all what this boy has done, and you can decide how to deal with him afterwards.”
Tong Wujin pressed a hand to his forehead as Jiang Chen laid out everything he knew. Afterward, Lin Ning also stepped forward. Though he was afraid of these powerful figures, with Jiang Chen at his side, he felt fearless.
After hearing Jiang Chen’s account, even Tong Yan, who had intended to ignore Tong Lu, broke out in a cold sweat down her back. They knew better than anyone how much Jiang Chen loathed evil, and how severe his punishments were for such people. The last person who acted this way was never seen again.
If they couldn’t give Jiang Chen an explanation, it made no difference whether Tong Lu lived or died.
Jiang Chen didn’t want to take things too far, so he left the decision to Tong Wujin, to see what he would choose. What Tong Lu had done was unforgivable.
Previously, when it came to Ye Qingfeng, both Tong Yan and Tong Wujin had helped him, so naturally Jiang Chen was grateful and remembered their kindness. Still, the world has its laws; break them, and one must accept punishment.
Tong Wujin crouched beside Tong Lu. “Speak. How do you plan to punish yourself? Give me an answer I can accept.”
Though the words sounded as though Tong Wujin was seeking his own satisfaction, it was truly to satisfy Jiang Chen.
Tong Lu whispered, “Brother, how about locking me up for a few days? You know I’m most afraid of being alone. If you confine me for a few days, I’ll surely behave.”
Tong Wujin’s tone remained steady. “I want to know if this is your first time, or if you’ve done this many times. Tell me the truth. If you don’t, I can’t protect you.”
Tong Lu was trembling on his knees. He had never seen his brother wear such an expression. Though not blood-related, they had grown up together, and the bond among the three siblings was no different from real kin.
“This is my third time. The other times weren’t as serious,” Tong Lu replied with a quivering voice.
Tong Wujin let out a breath. Thank goodness, only three times—not too many. “Have you ever hurt anyone badly?”
Tong Lu shook his head frantically. “No deaths, definitely no deaths. If they didn’t pay up, I’d just punish them a little—at most, break a leg or something.”
Hearing this, the sky that had just begun to clear for Tong Wujin collapsed again. After such words, even he could no longer protect Tong Lu.
If it were only minor injuries, they could apologize, pay compensation, or make amends. But breaking someone’s legs was a grave violation of another’s rights, something their family could never condone.
“You’re beyond saving,” Tong Wujin sighed, feeling as if another hair had turned white.
Now, saving him wasn’t even the point—just keeping him alive would do.
But since the responsibility was his, things became complicated.
“When we get home, I’ll break both your legs. Then you’ll come with me to find those you’ve harmed, pay compensation, and kneel in their homes. You’ll stay there until they forgive you. Only then can you return home, but even then, you’re not allowed to go out. For five years, you’ll leave the house with nothing, and the family won’t give you a single cent. When you’ve truly changed, then you can return. Until then, don’t expect anything from us.”
Tong Wujin finished in one breath, then looked to Jiang Chen, who nodded slightly. Only then did Tong Wujin relax and allow himself a small smile.
Jiang Chen wasn’t worried that Tong Wujin was lying. He believed that a family who had done good for nine generations would not raise a child who could deceive him. As for how one black sheep appeared—that was simply fate.
After hearing his own sentence, Tong Lu’s heart died completely. He sat on the ground in utter dejection, his face drained of all color.
Tong Yan realized that now was not the time to ask her brother to take her out to eat, but to first resolve Tong Lu’s matter.
“Brother Jiang Chen, we’ll take Tong Lu away for now. After we’ve dealt with things at home, I’ll call you, and we can arrange a meal together. Would that be all right?” Tong Yan’s sweet voice soothed the last of Jiang Chen’s lingering anger.
At this moment, he truly wanted to shout, “Can’t someone as sweet as her rule the world?”
Once the siblings took Tong Lu away, only the other brother and sister—Lin Ning and Lin Mo—remained.
They had witnessed the kind of Jiang Chen who could not be challenged, and now, faced with Jiang Chen the student, he seemed wholly unfamiliar to them.
“Brother Jiang Chen, who exactly are you?” Lin Mo finally voiced the question he’d held back for so long.
“Just an ordinary handsome guy,” Jiang Chen replied softly.
Lin Ning snorted, “All right, handsome guy, handsome guy. Come on, brother, let’s go home and eat.”
Jiang Chen was taken aback. “I saved you, and you’re not even going to thank your savior? So cold to me?”
Lin Ning stroked her smooth chin. “Well… come home for dinner, then? If you don’t mind my cooking, you can have a bite.”
Jiang Chen glanced at Lin Mo and whispered in his ear, “Is your sister’s cooking good or bad?”
Lin Mo whispered back, “I guarantee my sister’s cooking is the best in the world—no one else comes close. It’s just that she rarely cooks for me these days.”
“And let me tell you, my sister only cooks when she’s really happy. So even if she doesn’t look pleased today, she’s actually thrilled inside.” With that, Lin Mo thoroughly betrayed his sister.
Jiang Chen sighed, “Women really do say one thing and feel another.”
Lin Ning turned angrily, “Lin Mo, tonight you’re not eating. Go stand outside as punishment.”
Anyone who betrays their sister is a traitor, and he wasn’t letting a traitor eat tonight.
“See how kind your sister is—she won’t let you eat, but she’ll let me.”
