After Su Yike received the answer he desired, his mood could not have been better. Jiang Chen, who should have completed the pulse diagnosis in a few seconds, deliberately stretched it out for five whole minutes.

“No, Brother Su, I’ve told you countless times—there’s currently no way to fully cure uremia. I understand how you feel, but that’s the reality,” came a voice drawing closer. As he approached, everyone except Jiang Chen, who had been sitting, now stood up.

“Brother Su, the old man is recovering well in the hospital. I’ve said everything I need to say, don’t be stubborn,” Li Shengyuan urged.

Jiang Chen also rose, extending his hand. “Hello, Director Li. My name is Jiang Chen, and I’m currently responsible for Old Master Su Zhan’s rehabilitation treatment for uremia.”

Li Shengyuan ignored Jiang Chen’s outstretched hand. “Are you out of your mind, young man? How old are you—already learning to deceive people? Brother Su, don’t blame me for being blunt, but you can’t just ignore the old man’s illness.”

With a smile, Jiang Chen retracted his hand. “Director Li, is it? I need to borrow the ward and all the staff required for the subsequent rehabilitation process.”

Li Shengyuan gave him a once-over. “Young man, you might fool others, but not me. Even if I weren’t the director, I couldn’t let you do as you please.”

Su Yike hastily interjected, “Can’t we just borrow it for a little while?”

Li Shengyuan’s voice turned stern. “Absolutely not. I won’t let you use even a single piece of the hospital’s equipment unless you’re honest about your intentions!”

Jiang Chen only shook his head and smiled at this display of determination.

“I have another surgery downstairs right now. I hope you won’t mess around. If I come back and find you’ve caused trouble, I’ll call the police,” Li Shengyuan warned sharply.

“By all means,” Jiang Chen replied, gesturing politely.

Li Shengyuan memorized their faces, then specifically asked several nurses to keep an eye on them.

Li Jingzhou stood up angrily. “What’s that guy’s problem? Should I just buy out the hospital…?”

At first, Su Chenglong had spoken with assurance, guaranteeing there’d be no issues. But no one had expected this old man to be so upright and unyielding. No matter what was said, if you weren’t a doctor, you simply couldn’t touch the medical equipment. The old man’s age made it hard to argue further, so Su Chenglong had no choice but to bite the bullet, which brought them to their current situation.

Jiang Chen waved his hand. “It’s fine. You all wait here. Xiao Zhou, come with me for a bit.”

Hearing they were going out, Li Jingzhou tried to suppress his annoyance. Once they were outside, he couldn’t wait to ask, “Big Brother, just tell me what to do—should I just buy them out or become a shareholder? I think being a shareholder is better, so I can be a hands-off boss!”

Jiang Chen tapped him on the back of the head. “What are you thinking? I asked you out to get some food. We’ve been busy here all this time—aren’t you hungry? Don’t you think Chong Li is hungry too?”

“You’re right—Chong Li must be starving by now. Big Brother, you’re brilliant! I’ll go buy food right away!” If there were a light bulb over Li Jingzhou’s head, it would have flashed at Jiang Chen’s reminder.

Jiang Chen grabbed his arm. “Bring up a bouquet of flowers as well.”

Li Jingzhou squinted. “Big Brother, isn’t that a bit much? You see, my relationship with Chong Li is pretty stable. Wouldn’t giving flowers be moving too fast?”

Jiang Chen almost wanted to strangle him. “The flowers are for Old Master Su Zhan, not for Chong Li! Now go, and don’t let me see you for half an hour…”

Realizing his mistake, Li Jingzhou hurriedly ran off.

Jiang Chen pressed his fingers together, a frown creasing his brow. “That’s odd… it should be right around here.”

He had come down because he’d calculated there was someone with a great opportunity nearby.

Walking and pausing, Jiang Chen finally stopped beside a young woman.

Tears streaked her delicate face, her sobs almost silent. She was beautiful even without makeup, but her sorrow made her appear especially pitiful.

Jiang Chen checked his calculations again, then glanced at the operating room before them, his heart sinking. “Hello, are you family of the patient inside?”

Though she was grieving, the girl nodded politely at him.

“Your brother’s name is Gao Shang, isn’t it?” Jiang Chen put his hands behind his back, calculating as he spoke.

The girl finally replied, “My name is Gao Han. My brother is Gao Shang. He’s being resuscitated inside. Are you a doctor too?”

“Something like that,” Jiang Chen replied noncommittally.

Gao Han’s voice was thick with sorrow. “Can my brother… still be saved?” Her body trembled as she spoke.

Jiang Chen pressed her shoulder, and instantly a wave of warmth flowed from his palm into her.

Gao Han’s trembling finally subsided.

“He can be saved,” Jiang Chen said. He was not good at comforting people, so he simply spoke the truth.

Inside the operating room, Director Li Shengyuan emerged, his expression grave. “Gao Han, I need to explain your brother’s condition. He’s in critical shape. A steel bar pierced his chest. We’ll do our best.”

Gao Han was at the breaking point, ready to collapse. Jiang Chen quickly pressed her shoulder. “Director, may I go in and take a look? Maybe I can help.”

“Stop causing trouble! There’s no time for your nonsense!” Li Shengyuan snapped angrily.

Jiang Chen sighed. He was anxious but couldn’t think of a solution, so he stayed with Gao Han to wait.

“My brother is going to die, isn’t he?” Gao Han asked.

Jiang Chen nodded. “Yes—but I won’t let him die.”

Gao Han took this as empty comfort, and her sadness deepened.

Jiang Chen had already deduced that the siblings only had each other. If her brother died, he couldn’t imagine what would become of Gao Han—it would be too cruel a fate.

He kept calculating Gao Shang’s lifespan, and now he could see it was being measured in minutes.

With a beep, the surgical light went out. Director Li Shengyuan came out with his head bowed, and that extinguished light stabbed into Gao Han’s heart like a knife.

Jiang Chen seized the moment. “I’m going into the operating room now. You help me keep everyone else out. I will save your brother’s life.”

Gao Han had no time to hesitate—her brother was all she had. As long as there was a chance to save him, she’d do anything.

Several doctors followed behind Li Shengyuan, their faces solemn.

“Go in and see your brother,” one of them said.

Gao Han knew that her brother might not come back, but she had no other option. She had to take a gamble—just this once. If she was lucky, she could see her brother again.

From childhood, Gao Han had always been a good girl, never once breaking the rules. Today, for her brother, she would do something bad.

For her brother, she would be a bad girl just this once!

The two moved almost simultaneously: Jiang Chen slipped into the operating room, while Gao Han pulled the door shut behind him, using her body to block the entrance.

Li Shengyuan immediately sensed something was wrong and shouted anxiously, “Stop those two!”
