After arranging everything at the company, Su Chen didn’t linger. He left soon after, returned home, ate a simple meal, and sat down at his computer.

When he bought a computer for Tang Jiayi last time, he got one for himself as well. He had originally intended to start transferring web novels, but his laziness had kept him from ever beginning. Now, he was going to use this computer for something else.

Back in the capital, he’d mentioned a music variety show to Lu Yuanqing. He needed to put together a proposal as soon as possible. Although he had never worked on a variety show plan in his previous life, he had done plenty of similar jobs. As a viewer, he had also studied quite a few Earth-based variety programs. So, step by step, he dissected his memories, piecing together the basics.

He started by creating a template—laying out the framework—and then filled it in, bit by bit. Hours slipped by this way.

“Hua Xia’s Voice”
A complete draft of a variety show proposal lay before him.

He went on to polish and revise, scrutinizing every line, until he felt satisfied that nothing was amiss. Then, he opened the copyright website’s variety section and applied to register his proposal.

On Earth, variety show copyright disputes were common—especially after Running Man became a hit. Other programs sprang up like mushrooms after a rain, chaos and confusion abounding. Some blatantly copied other shows, simply changing the name and starting anew. Others, less obvious, borrowed ideas from similar programs. Thus, copyright disputes were endless. Since overarching concepts and ideas weren’t protected by law, many lawsuits ended unresolved, leaving original creators with little recourse.

But here on Blue Star, the entertainment industry lagged behind, yet the copyright system was more complete than Earth’s. Even so, Su Chen took care to write out every key detail in his proposal: implementation steps, creative supports, stage design, fixed lines, costumes, props, and so on. That way, he left little room for loopholes.

After submitting his application, Su Chen opened his browser to research novel sites. He searched online and skimmed through a few platforms, gaining a rough understanding of Blue Star’s web fiction industry.

Currently, the dominant model was paid content. The largest platform was “Singularity Literature,” backed by a major corporation and reigning supreme in the web novel world. Other sites were much smaller. First, the readership was limited—most didn’t even reach one-tenth the traffic of Singularity Literature. Secondly, there were fewer writers.

With restricted traffic, authors earned less, and the number of writers dwindled further, creating a vicious cycle. Some sites, desperate to survive, stole novels from others, leading to frequent shutdowns. So, if he was to write, “Singularity Literature” was the safest choice.

Since he had nothing else to do, he decided to get started. Su Chen registered an account on Singularity Literature with his phone number, logged into the author’s backend, and read through the relevant agreements. The royalty split was fair, and the copyright belonged to the author. With these key points confirmed, he had no further concerns.

Everything was ready. He created a new book and, recalling from memory, typed out the synopsis:

“There are no immortals in this world, but since ancient times, mankind has witnessed the strange wonders of their surroundings: lightning and thunder, wild winds and torrential rain...

...hence believed that above the nine heavens, divine spirits dwell, and beneath the nine underworlds, restless souls return to the halls of Yama.”

There were too many excellent novels in his previous life, spanning every genre. The channel with Rong Fei hadn’t yet been established, so he wasn’t rushing to transfer script-style novels. For now, he chose according to his own taste.

“Zhu Xian” was one of his favorites from his previous life. He’d first encountered it while still a student. He remembered a male classmate renting it from the school bookstore. Once it began circulating in class, it became unstoppable. Back then, there were no smartphones, and even computers were not common. Their source for reading was that school bookstore.

From martial arts to immortal fantasy—the leap in genre was dazzling, not something everyone could appreciate. It was as if a new world had opened before him.

Once the book passed review, he began writing the first chapter:

“Time: Unknown, likely long, long ago.
Place: The vast lands of the Divine Continent.
Heaven and earth are impartial, treating all things as straw dogs...”

Su Chen made no changes, simply transcribing from memory. He wrote four chapters in one go. Afterwards, he massaged his aching wrist and stopped. Despite his improved memory, his typing speed was still slow. Even without needing to outline the plot, those four chapters took him two full hours. Clearly, transferring was no easy task.

After publishing the chapters, Su Chen casually checked the copyright registration site from earlier. To his surprise, his application had already been approved. Blue Star’s efficiency in this regard was impressive.

It was already past eight in the evening. After a moment’s hesitation, he sent the proposal to Lu Yuanqing via WeChat.

“Brother Yuanqing, here’s the music variety proposal. Take a look when you have time!”

“If you’re interested, let’s work on it together.”

He sent the file, stood up, and stretched. He had lost track of time and missed dinner. It was too late to cook now, so he decided to eat out.

Though rumors about him and Jiang Yan had been swirling online these past few days, very few people actually knew him. Aside from the occasional young person tentatively asking his name—which he denied—he hadn't encountered any diehard fans or anything troublesome. So he felt no pressure going out.

He finished his meal quickly and, on his way home, received a voice call from Lu Yuanqing.

“Hello? Su Chen? Where are you right now?”

“Is it convenient to talk?”

Su Chen replied with a smile, “Of course, Brother Yuanqing. Did you read what I sent you?”

“How is it?”

As soon as he asked, Lu Yuanqing’s excited voice came through.

“Su Chen, that's exactly what I wanted to talk to you about!”

“This proposal is fantastic!”

“A genius idea!”

“Even though I haven’t finished reading it, I can already sense it will be a hit!”

Su Chen laughed, “So, do you want to bring this project to life?”

Lu Yuanqing chuckled heartily, “That’s exactly what I was thinking!”

“Are you free these days?”

“I’ll come to River City to see you!”

Su Chen was slightly taken aback, then said helplessly, “Brother Yuanqing, all my ideas are in the proposal.”

“What I need now is your help with connections—like the production team, TV channel contacts, and mentor resources in the entertainment industry.”

“Once we have the right people, we can discuss things further.”
