Chapter Sixty-Two: I Like the Way You Look When You're Quiet
Within the marketplace.
Fang Tang weaved through the sea of people, occasionally pausing before a stall. By the time he had walked from one end to the other, his hands held three or five small trinkets—spirit-bound items, all extremely practical.
For instance, a spring ball: toss it, and upon the second collision, it detonates. Perfect for ambushes.
“My time is running short! I must hurry to raise my evolution level,” Fang Tang muttered, glancing down as the time on his arm dwindled.
00:00:03:28.
He headed toward the spring, when suddenly the crowd grew restless. A group of uniformed officials surged forth, surrounding him.
Fang Tang: ?
He slowly formed a question mark, gazing at them in bewilderment.
“Is there something you need?”
“Fang Tang, you are suspected of murder in the marketplace. We are now escorting you to the Town Guard for questioning. You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say may be used as evidence in court.”
A burly man strode over, towering above Fang Tang. His words, delivered in a distinctive booming voice, carried far.
As the crowd heard that someone had died in the marketplace, their expressions turned peculiar. There was no noisy commotion, only strange glances cast at the Town Guard.
Fang Tang noticed their gazes and smiled faintly at the strong man.
“What if I refuse?”
“Refuse?”
The strong man seemed to find this amusing, laughing heartily.
“Who dares to say no to the Town Guard?”
Fang Tang pursed his lips, pointing to his permit. “Even if I go with you, I haven’t much time left!”
“Time-stop handcuffs, now!”
The strong man’s face darkened as he shouted. Instantly, someone rushed forward to handcuff him.
But Fang Tang was not so easily subdued.
The mechanical arm on his back shifted to flight mode, and he shot skyward.
“Would you believe me if I said I’ve never killed anyone?”
He hovered a dozen meters above, expressionless as he looked down.
The strong man’s eyelids drooped, a cold smile curling his lips.
“Resisting arrest? Authorized to kill on the spot!”
At his words, the Town Guard raised their guns, aiming at Fang Tang.
Fang Tang glanced coolly at the strong man. The mechanical arm behind him unleashed a powerful thrust, propelling him another dozen meters away in a blink.
“One minute left... Quite troublesome, indeed!”
He rubbed his nose, flying back and forth above the cavern.
Below, the Town Guard brandished their weapons, electric flashes flickering, but none could aim at Fang Tang—he was far too swift.
At first they managed, but soon realized his movements were growing ever more fluid and skilled. By the end, his flight path was so erratic they couldn’t even aim.
A beam of white light descended, enveloping Fang Tang.
He locked eyes with the strong man for eight seconds, then vanished from the Cradle World.
The strong man stared at the spot where Fang Tang had disappeared, his face emotionless.
“Captain, we missed him…”
The Town Guard beside him hung their heads in dejection.
“If he got away, he got away. No need for gloom. When we report, simply say the suspect was crafty and evaded us with flight technology.”
The strong man waved dismissively, turning to retrace his steps.
The Town Guard: “……”
Onlookers: “……”
“Well, it’s over. We all knew the Town Guard were useless; today we saw it firsthand.”
The crowd scattered, leaving the Town Guard with faces dark as iron.
……
Cavern 102.
As the white light faded, Fang Tang stepped out.
Tu Jiawen cradled Yue Yue in her arms, standing before the villa, gazing calmly at him.
“How did it go?”
She uttered just two words, her cool demeanor lending her a queenly air. But she dared not say more—too many words would spoil the effect.
Fang Tang took Yue Yue from her arms. “Are you familiar with the Town Guard?”
“You ran into them?” Tu Jiawen typed.
Fang Tang nodded. “There was a robbery in the marketplace. I fought back and killed the robber, then the Town Guard traced it to me.”
“I’ve not heard much about the Town Guard, only that they used to be strong, but gradually declined. Now the entire corps is full of useless drunkards and layabouts.”
Reading her message, Fang Tang mused, “So I don’t need to worry about them catching me?”
“Exactly.”
Tu Jiawen nodded ever so slightly.
Fang Tang felt reassured.
He yawned. “Lost a day. I’ll continue exploring the caverns. You get some rest.”
“Take care!” Tu Jiawen replied, turning to enter the villa.
Fang Tang smiled, holding Yue Yue as he headed toward the cavern ahead.
Cavern 103.
Fang Tang passed through the black mist, colliding headlong with a Night Sentinel.
He looked up at the towering figure and greeted it.
“Hey, we meet again!”
The Night Sentinel’s eyes glowed, and it swung a fist at Fang Tang.
Boom!
A dull thud resounded.
A fist larger than Fang Tang’s head struck his body.
He stood unmoved.
Sequence 222: Iron Guardian.
Truly formidable!
He rubbed the spot where he’d been struck and smiled.
“Now I can walk unchallenged through the caverns!”
He slowly drew the Grand Xia Dragon Sparrow, swinging it in a wide arc at the Night Sentinel.
A jet-black arm was severed cleanly. The sentinel groaned, its eyes flashing with red light—it was furious!
But rage was futile.
The Night Sentinel lunged with its other hand.
Fang Tang kept his composure, countering with another swing.
Slash!
His decapitation strike landed. The sentinel’s eyes dimmed rapidly, its head thudding heavily to the ground.
“I’ve stood up at last!”
Fang Tang rubbed Yue Yue’s tiny head.
“Huh?”
Yue Yue cocked her head, puzzled, and licked Fang Tang’s finger.
“This little one is acting more and more like a dog. Don’t tell me she’s a cross between a wolf and a husky?”
He wondered, but could not confirm—he’d have to wait and see.
He obtained a black-purple bead and spotted a silver treasure chest in the corner.
After resupplying, Fang Tang looked at the wall.
[Now we’re hardened, aren’t we? Sequence 222 Iron Guardian, Sequence 251 Tranquil Waves, Sequence 456 Rapid Recovery, Sequence 666 Sixth Time’s the Charm.
Look at this lavish arsenal! But now the level… First Tier, Second Stage. Feels a bit off, doesn’t it? Your power is too low; with such extraordinary sequence talents, you can’t fully unleash them.
Want to get stronger? Head for the cavern on the left—it’s warped by twisted rules, and inside is a fallen one who can match you blow for blow.
Defeat it, and show the fallen ones what it means to be the boss of D0023z0093 District!]
Fang Tang: “……”
“No story this time?”
[You want me to tell a story? Well, if you insist, I’ll tell one…]
The subtitles began to unfold, but Fang Tang quickly waved his hand.
“No, stop right there. I prefer you when you’re quiet—that’s when you’re most charming.”
