Chapter 127: Wang Gang

“There were eight children who went missing in the disappearance case, excluding the two children from apartment 201. The murderer who killed those two children from 201 was only three kids. So how did the other five children disappear?” Liu Yiran sorted out the relationships and voiced his doubts.
Fang Tang immediately recalled the rule of the children’s disappearance case—hide and seek.
This was a game only children played. In other words, the three children killed by the male head of apartment 201, after being hung above the elevator shaft, were very likely turned into corrupted beings.
And the first child killed in Mr. Cao’s family was probably that little girl.
Hide and seek... eat them all...
The repetition of the words disguised any cuteness; behind them was a chilling truth.
“Perhaps... the remaining five missing children were most likely killed by the corrupted children from the Cao family,” Fang Tang speculated. Liu Yiran’s eyes lit up, giving Fang Tang an affirmative look.
“Your guess might be correct, but it still needs verification. Let’s continue upstairs,” Ta Meng began, and the group followed behind his tall figure. Even the muscular Fang Tang looked like a chick beside Ta Meng.
On the fourth floor, everyone went to their respective targets with familiarity.
Apartment 401.
Fang Tang pushed open the door. The room was empty; the furniture had been moved out, likely after the twisted rules took effect and the family left.
Fang Tang found nothing and came back early to wait in the hallway.
The quiet corridor echoed with various sounds from other apartments, along with laughter from Xie Ling and Liu Xu.
Fang Tang waited patiently, but suddenly all sounds vanished, as if the entire world had been muted.
He took out the Daxia Longque, planted it on the ground, and focused his gaze around.
Unfortunately, his eyes didn’t reveal any hints.
“Sweetie, sweetie, sweetie~”
“Uncle, shall we play hide and seek together?”
A clear voice sounded, hard to believe it came from a corrupted being.
Fang Tang saw a tug at his sleeve, and without hesitation, drew his Daxia Longque and swung it out.
But he missed the corrupted child.
Fang Tang narrowed his eyes as golden subtitles unfolded before him.
[Although her fate is tragic, she does not deserve sympathy. Have you heard of the sexual... u case in a certain region? This case is similar. After prolonged torment, the little girl accepted it and...]

[The two children from apartment 201’s family were happy; this little girl grew jealous and lured two innocent children to their deaths.
Children raised in twisted families develop twisted psyches. When twisted meets twisted, the chemical reaction is extraordinary. The fact proves that two negatives don’t necessarily make a positive.
Level 7 corrupted being, rare mutated ability: Jealousy Gaze. Perfect mutated ability: Alternate Space, Hide and Seek.]
“Tsk, poor child, how do you want to play hide and seek?”
The moment Fang Tang saw the mutated ability, he immediately thought of a countermeasure.
“Giggling, you can hide anywhere you want. If I find you, you’ll be my dinner, okay?”
Hearing this, Fang Tang shook his head: “No, how about you hide and I seek? If I find you, you tell me where the guardian of this area is, deal?”
“That sounds fun. I hate that corrupted being too. I’ll hide now. You have 100 seconds to find me!”
The little girl was excited.
Fang Tang began counting: “1, 2, 3...”
But as he counted, he kept an eye on the direction the little girl left.
The little girl was in alternate space, rendering her half-invisible; neither sight nor perception could detect her, but Fang Tang had his eyes.
Every move the little girl made was in Fang Tang’s sight.
When the count reached 100, Fang Tang approached where the little girl was.
Looking up the stairs, he smiled, “I found you.”
“Not fun, not fun. How can you see me?”
The little girl was unhappy, glaring angrily at Fang Tang with her twisted face. Her dark eyes glowed with a hint of green.
Jealousy Gaze.
It could stir jealousy in Fang Tang.
Even as a rare mutated ability, it only guided Fang Tang’s jealousy; it couldn’t conjure feelings out of thin air. Remember, Fang Tang was calm and unruffled, naturally resistant to jealousy.
Besides, what could Fang Tang possibly be jealous of? A little girl? Naïve and wicked?
Don’t be ridiculous.
Fang Tang smiled warmly at the girl: “You should tell me where the apartment’s guardian is since you lost.”
“13th floor.”
The little girl glared at Fang Tang, then sprinted away, vanishing down the stairs.
With her gone, Fang Tang heard his teammates’ voices again.
“It’s like a dream!”

Fang Tang smiled slightly as Liu Yiran came out of a room and descended the stairs.
“I found the guardian’s location,” Fang Tang said, recounting what had happened.
Liu Yiran fell into thought. “The credibility is high, because in room 403, I found a diary detailing each household’s address. Combining that with the guardian being on the 13th floor and the information you all gathered before, we can deduce the guardian’s identity.”
Fang Tang thought for a moment and tentatively asked, “Wang Gang?”
“Hmm.” Liu Yiran smiled appreciatively. “With the twisted rules fully unleashed and the world sinking into an apocalyptic atmosphere, Wang Gang still wanted to rule the apartment. Desire is the strongest; it makes sense he became the guardian of this area.”
“We just don’t know his ability. There’s too little information on Wang Gang to reverse-engineer the rule of this area.”
Liu Yiran slipped his hands into his sleeves and smiled gently. “But it doesn’t matter. As long as we deal with Wang Gang, it’s all good.”
Fang Tang nodded silently.
Su Mang and the others came out one after another. After summarizing their findings, the group ascended to the fifth floor.
“Between the fifth and sixth floors is the Heaven Mezzanine. Fang Tang, check it out. If you find anything, come back immediately. Don’t get caught up in a fight.”
Liu Yiran patted Fang Tang on the shoulder. “Be careful.”
“I know.”
Fang Tang drew his Daxia Longque and climbed the stairs.
At the stairwell between the fifth and sixth floors, Fang Tang stood but found no Heaven Mezzanine, let alone any delicious food.
He scrutinized the surroundings, his eyes giving no hints.
“Speak up if you find anything. Don’t wait until I find a clue to jump out.”
[There’s nothing to see here. It’s just an illusion created by someone. Think about who would use food to control the residents inside the building?]
“Wang Gang?”
Fang Tang thought of someone and immediately understood.
The Heaven Mezzanine appeared not long ago. Wang Gang surfaced, trying to unify the apartment. He must have already awakened a certain sequence talent, but his desire was too overwhelming and ultimately he became a corrupted being.
A sequence talent popped into Fang Tang’s mind: Sequence 302—Mental Illusion.
“Emmm... I thought there really was a Heaven Mezzanine. But this confirms Wang Gang’s ability. This trip wasn’t in vain.”
Fang Tang pursed his lips, about to go downstairs, when out of the corner of his eye he saw a middle-aged man.
[The Big Boss has arrived...]
