The sunlight still spilled over the small town, but Xu Si’s mood was exceptionally heavy. Ever since her narrow escape from the Rose Garden last time, she always felt as though a pair of eyes were watching her from the shadows. One day, while sorting through some sundries, Xu Si accidentally found a rose petal she had brought back from the Rose Garden. The petal emitted a strange, luminous glow. The moment she touched it, a wave of dizziness washed over her, and her mind conjured the image of the mysterious fountain deep within the Rose Garden, where something seemed to be calling out to her.
Meanwhile, Lin Yue was also deeply troubled. She came to Xu Si with a flustered expression and said, "Xu Si, lately I keep dreaming of that Rose Garden, along with those eerie roses and the robed gardener. Am I cursed?" Xu Si frowned and told Lin Yue about the petal, and both of them harbored a quiet suspicion that the matter was far from over.
After some discussion, they decided to return to the Rose Garden to completely uncover the truth behind everything. Although fear gripped their hearts, Xu Si knew that without resolving this issue, they would forever live in its shadow.
Standing before the ornate iron gates of the Rose Garden once again, Xu Si and Lin Yue experienced a complex mix of emotions. Xu Si took a deep breath and pushed open the familiar yet forbidding door. As soon as they entered, they noticed that the atmosphere was vastly different from last time. An oppressive aura hung heavy in the air, and the once-vibrant roses had lost their former luster, with some even beginning to wither.
The two cautiously made their way along the path, with Xu Si remaining constantly alert to the surrounding changes and reminding Lin Yue to mind the rules. Suddenly, Lin Yue pointed ahead and cried out, "Xu Si, look, it's the robed gardener!" There he was, standing with his back to them, trimming the roses.
Xu Si grabbed Lin Yue, intending to skirt around him. However, the robed gardener seemed to sense their presence, slowly turning around. Fatigue flickered in his eyes as he rasped, "You shouldn't have come back."
Xu Si mustered her courage and asked, "Why are we dragged into these strange events? What secret is this Rose Garden hiding?"
The robed gardener remained silent for a long time before slowly speaking, "This Rose Garden was once the residence of a powerful wizard. He was obsessed with creating eternal beauty and used magic to cultivate these roses. But the magic spiraled out of control, placing a curse upon the garden and affecting everyone who sets foot here. As for me, I was sent to guard this place and prevent the curse from spreading."
"Then how can we lift the curse?" Xu Si asked urgently.
"Only by finding the source of the runaway magic and purifying it can the curse be broken. But this is extremely dangerous; are you certain you want to do this?" The robed gardener looked at them with a solemn gaze.
Xu Si and Lin Yue exchanged glances and nodded firmly. The robed gardener sighed and handed Xu Si a small vial containing a silvery liquid: "This is a purification potion; it might help you. But remember, be extremely careful."
Xu Si accepted the vial, thanked the robed gardener, and continued deeper into the Rose Garden with Lin Yue. Along the way, they encountered various dangers. At one point, the path beneath their feet suddenly turned into a marsh, and Xu Si reacted with lightning speed, pulling Lin Yue onto a nearby boulder. Another time, a flock of black crows suddenly swooped overhead, nearly pecking them.
Finally, they reached the center of the Rose Garden, standing before the fountain. The water in the fountain had dried up, and its base flickered with an eerie light. Xu Si approached cautiously, discovering that the glow originated from a black gemstone embedded at the bottom of the basin.
"This is it—the source of the runaway magic." With those words, Xu Si took out the purification potion, preparing to let it fall onto the gemstone.
Just then, a colossal vine monster burst out from beneath the earth, blocking their path. The creature gnashed and clawed, unleashing a series of roars.
"Xu Si, what should we do?" Lin Yue hid behind Xu Si in terror.
"Don't be afraid, we'll think of something together," Xu Si comforted Lin Yue while scanning the monster for weaknesses. Realizing its eyes were its vital spot, she picked up a branch from the ground and hurled it straight at the creature's eye.
Hit in the eye, the monster lashed its vines in fury, expanding its attack range. Though Xu Si and Lin Yue dodged left and right, the vines still grazed their skin, leaving several gashes.
"We can't keep going like this; we must purify the gemstone as soon as possible," Xu Si shouted.
Consulting with Lin Yue, they decided that Lin Yue would draw the monster's attention while Xu Si seized the opportunity to approach the gemstone. Despite her fear, Lin Yue nodded bravely, sprinted in the opposite direction of the monster, and shouted loudly.
True to expectation, the monster took the bait, turning to chase after her. Seizing the chance, Xu Si dashed swiftly toward the base of the fountain. Just as she was about to reach the gemstone, the monster sensed the danger, violently whipping its vines around and knocking Xu Si to the ground.
"Xu Si!" Lin Yue cried out in alarm.
Struggling to her feet, ignoring the pain in her body, Xu Si lunged toward the gemstone once more. She poured the purification potion directly onto it. Instantly, a brilliant radiance burst forth, and the potion rapidly spread, enveloping the entire gemstone.
The monster emitted a agonized shriek as its form began to dissolve into nothingness. As the gemstone underwent purification, everything within the Rose Garden sprang back to life. The withered roses bloomed anew, and the oppressive heaviness in the air dissipated completely.
Xu Si and Lin Yue collapsed onto the ground, gasping for breath. At that moment, the robed gardener walked over, gazing at the restored Rose Garden with a gratified smile on his face.
"You did it; you lifted the curse of the Rose Garden," the robed gardener said.
"What is this all about? Why did such a curse exist?" Xu Si asked, puzzled.
The robed gardener explained, "When the wizard created the Rose Garden, he overused forbidden magic, leading to a magical backlash that spawned the curse. Over the years, countless people attempted to enter the Rose Garden in search of treasure, only to be swallowed by the curse. You are the first group to successfully cleanse the curse."
Hearing this, Xu Si and Lin Yue were overcome with emotion. They had originally been ordinary girls, yet an accidental adventure had thrust the heavy responsibility of breaking a curse onto their shoulders.
"What should we do now?" Lin Yue asked.
"The curse of the Rose Garden is lifted, and it will no longer be dangerous here. But I hope you will keep this secret and not let anyone else step foot here out of idle curiosity," the robed gardener said.
Xu Si and Lin Yue agreed to the robed gardener's request. As they left the Rose Garden, they glanced back; sunlight fell upon the gorgeous roses, looking as dreamlike and beautiful as a fantasy. This experience had matured them significantly and taught them that courage and wisdom can conquer any difficulty.
Upon returning home, Xu Si and Lin Yue buried the adventure deep in their hearts. Life seemed to return to its ordinary tranquility, yet they knew that in this wide world, countless unknown mysteries awaited exploration, and they were already prepared to face whatever the future held with bravery.
A few days later, while tidying her room, Xu Si discovered a diary she had never seen before. Its pages were yellowed and emitted a faint fragrance of roses. Opening it out of curiosity, she was utterly shocked by the words within.
The owner of the diary was none other than the former wizard. As it turned out, he had not created the Rose Garden merely to pursue eternal beauty, but to save his gravely ill beloved. He had attempted to use magic to conjure a flower capable of curing all diseases, but during the experiment, the magic spiraled out of control, failing to save his love and plunging the entire Rose Garden into a curse instead.
Xu Si showed the diary to Lin Yue, and the two could not help sighing over the wizard's tale. "So there was such a story behind it all; he is so pitiful," Lin Yue remarked with emotion.
"Indeed, and it teaches us not to judge things solely by their surface appearance. Perhaps the danger and evil we perceive always conceal unknown reasons behind them," Xu Si said thoughtfully.
From then on, Xu Si and Lin Yue cherished their friendship even more deeply and grew more passionate about life.
They knew that every experience was a precious asset for growth, and those unknown adventures would forever remain the most unforgettable memories in their hearts.
Whenever the setting sun cast its lingering glow over the town, they would think of that mysterious Rose Garden and the thrilling times they spent there.
