Sister's Home 14
Xu Si knew that she had not only saved the school but also conquered the fear within her. In this world filled with the unknown and the perilous, she had used her courage and wisdom to shatter the cage of rules and usher in the dawn of a new day.
Xu Si had assumed that with the curse lifted and the campus restored to tranquility, everything would return to normal. Yet, the ripples of life always seem to surge again when least expected.
Not long after campus life had returned to normal, while sorting through old belongings, Xu Si discovered the very copy of the "Campus Life Guidebook" that had changed her fate. The pages had lost their former cold and eerie chill, but as she flipped it open, she found a few blurred lines of text added to the final page. Leaning in to identify them, she read: "Though the curse is lifted, the seal remains incomplete. Beware the gaze from the shadows; the crisis may resurface on the night of the full moon."
Xu Si’s brow furrowed into a knot. Could everything before have been only a temporary lull? Unbidden, terrifying scenes flooded her mind: the shrill, wretched screams of white figures and the eerie red glow of twisted creatures. Steadying herself, she decided not to tell a soul and began to investigate on her own.
As the days passed, Xu Si noticed subtle yet unusual changes on campus. In the vibrant flowerbeds, flowers would occasionally wither in an instant, their petals turning a ghastly black. In the corners of the library, the faint sound of turning pages could often be heard, yet when she approached to look, there was no one there. These seemingly insignificant phenomena made Xu Si increasingly certain that the danger had not truly departed.
Finally, the night of the full moon arrived. The moonlight, like water, spilled into every corner of the campus, yet it carried an indescribable chill. Xu Si slipped out of her dormitory; she had to find the source of the danger and end it once and for all. Beneath the moonlight, she wove through the shadows of the teaching buildings, every step taken with heightened vigilance.
When she reached the vicinity of the school’s clock tower, a frigid wind howled past, seemingly carrying faint, indistinct whispers. Xu Si followed the direction of the sound to see the clock tower’s heavy doors slowly creaking open, a ghostly green light emanating from within. Taking a deep breath and gripping her flashlight, she walked toward the tower.
Stepping inside, a scent of decay and antiquity rushed out to meet her. Xu Si illuminated the surroundings with her flashlight, revealing walls covered in strange symbols that seemed to possess a life of their own, flickering faintly under the beam. In the center of the tower sat a massive stone sarcophagus, also etched with mysterious patterns; the ghostly green light was spilling from the gaps in its lid.
Xu Si approached the sarcophagus slowly, the sound of her own heartbeat deafening in the silence of the tower. Just as she neared the stone box, it began to vibrate violently, followed by a muffled roar from within. Xu Si reflexively tried to step back, but her feet felt as though they were firmly glued to the floor, unable to move.
With a thunderous crash, the lid of the sarcophagus was flung aside, and a figure slowly rose from within. The figure radiated a ghostly green light, its face twisted—it was the very image of the mad scientist who had failed his experiment so long ago. His voice, raspy and cold, echoed through the tower: "Who dares to destroy my masterpiece and interrupt my slumber?"
Gathering her courage, Xu Si shouted, "Your atrocities should have been ended long ago! This school will no longer be shrouded in your evil!" The scientist erupted in wild laughter. "Ignorant child, do you think that lifting the curse makes you secure? Though I am trapped here, as long as this school exists, my resentment will not fade. Tonight, this shall be your end!"
No sooner had he spoken than the scientist thrust out his hands, and black vines shot forth, coiling toward Xu Si. She dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack. Knowing she could not remain a sitting duck, she began to search the tower for a way to combat him.
In a corner of the tower, Xu Si found a glowing ancient tome. Flipping through it, she found records detailing the scientist’s experiments and his weaknesses. It turned out that the scientist’s power derived from his mastery over dark forces, but his heart was his only vulnerability; if she could find the chance to strike it, she could destroy him completely.
Closing the book, Xu Si looked at the scientist with steely resolve. At that moment, he launched another attack, and countless black spikes erupted from the ground, thrusting toward her. Xu Si leaped and dodged with agility, all the while searching for an opening.
During the fierce confrontation, Xu Si noticed that when the scientist unleashed his most powerful attacks, his heart was briefly exposed. Seizing the moment, she snatched up a sharp stone from the floor and hurled it with all her might at his chest. The stone struck his heart with unerring accuracy; he let out a roar of agony, his body beginning to tremble violently.
However, the scientist did not fall. Exhausting his final strength, he gathered a surge of dark energy and swept it toward her. Xu Si had nowhere to hide and could only shield herself with her arms. Just as the dark energy was about to consume her, a warm and brilliant light suddenly erupted from her pocket. It was the "Campus Life Guidebook," now glowing with a dazzling radiance. The light collided with the dark energy, producing a deafening roar.
Under the brilliance of the light, the scientist’s body gradually became transparent, his screams growing fainter and fainter. Finally, with a resounding boom, the scientist vanished entirely into the light. The "Campus Life Guidebook," having fulfilled its purpose, dissolved into stardust and scattered into the air.
Xu Si collapsed to the floor, breathing heavily. She gazed at the sky outside the clock tower as it gradually paled, her heart filled with complex emotions. This battle against evil had finally reached its end.
As the first rays of the morning sun touched the campus, Xu Si walked out of the clock tower. Her face showed fatigue, but even more so, a sense of relief. Her classmates were already moving about the campus, laughing as usual, unaware of what had transpired the night before. Xu Si did not intend to tell anyone; she knew that some secrets are best buried deep in the heart forever.
Through this harrowing adventure, Xu Si understood that while there would always be unknown dangers and challenges in life, as long as one possessed firm conviction, fearless courage, and a calm mind, one could overcome anything. And this school, under her protection, would truly find peace and tranquility.
