Chapter 32: The Eccentric Senior Sister

“That was precisely why He Jia had the opportunity to sneak in and pick the Jadeleaf Grass the night before last.”
“Besides, Junior Sister Zhen values peace and quiet and generally dislikes dealing with people. However, she and I are as close as sisters. I’ll take you to meet her once, and afterward, she certainly won’t refuse your help.”
Deep within the bamboo grove stood an elegant, secluded two-story wooden building. Spiritual flowers adorned its surroundings, while lush green grass carpeted the ground, creating a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere.
When they reached the little building, Violet Spirit stopped and called inside.
“Junior Sister Yuyan, I’ve come to see you.”
A moment later, the door opened, and a woman in a white dress stepped out. She had an ordinary figure and a merely delicate appearance, with nothing particularly striking about her. Only her clear, lively eyes were unforgettable.
Upon seeing Violet Spirit, the woman smiled faintly and greeted her warmly.
“Senior Sister, what brings you here today?”
Violet Spirit smiled and stepped forward to take her hand, saying gently, “I’ve brought a new junior disciple to meet you. He’ll be working in the medicinal herb garden from now on, so I hope you’ll look after him.”
The woman glanced at Su Yi, sized him up, and nodded.
“Since he was brought here by you, Senior Sister, there naturally won’t be a problem. I’ll look after him.”
Feeling her gaze upon him, Su Yi stepped forward, clasped his hands, and said, “Greetings, Senior Sister Zhen.”
Su Yi knew that the woman before him was named Zhen Yuyan. She was at the mid-stage of Foundation Establishment and had been stationed here for three years. She normally kept to herself and rarely appeared in public. This was the first time he had met her in person.
Although Zhen Yuyan looked utterly ordinary, with nothing unusual about her, Su Yi nevertheless sensed that something about her was amiss. He simply could not put his finger on what it was.
“Why don’t we go inside and talk?”
Zhen Yuyan smiled and nodded, then prepared to lead them indoors.
“No need. Aside from introducing this new junior disciple to you, I mainly came to see how you were doing.”
Violet Spirit shook her head and spoke with unusual seriousness.
“Junior Sister, you have spent three years living in seclusion in this remote place to guard the medicinal herb garden. Your contributions have been immense. In two days, I plan to ask Elder Xu to transfer you back to the inner sect. What do you think?”
“No!”
Upon hearing that she might return to the inner sect, Zhen Yuyan rejected the idea without hesitation, appearing somewhat nervous.
“Senior Sister, please don’t mention this to Elder Xu. You know that I dislike appearing in public. This place is perfect for me to escape the noise of the world and cultivate in peace. I’d be perfectly willing to stay here for many more years.”

Seeing how resolute Zhen Yuyan was, Violet Spirit could only sigh and refrain from pressing her.
“Sigh! Very well, I agree. But if you ever change your mind and wish to leave, you can come to me at any time…”
Seeing this, Su Yi’s suspicions deepened.
Unlike labor disciples such as themselves, inner-sect disciples clearly did not consider guarding the medicinal herb garden a desirable assignment. Not only did it require remaining here day and night, but they also had to face attacks from the demonic beasts in the rear mountains at any moment.
Given the opportunity to be transferred elsewhere, Zhen Yuyan’s fierce resistance was truly strange.
Thinking of a certain possibility, Su Yi’s brows lifted slightly. From the corner of his eye, he glanced at Zhen Yuyan, who was chatting with Violet Spirit, and his expression grew somewhat solemn.
He hoped things were not as he suspected…
…
At the same time, in the inner sect.
Within a beautiful mountain cave blessed with abundant spiritual energy, a young man sat upright in a wooden chair.
“Cousin, you must help me this time! Those two bastards, Zhang Yi and Xu Ze, have repeatedly humiliated me. This time, they even turned the tables and framed me. Not only was I left utterly disgraced, but I couldn’t even protect the woman at my side!”
“I clearly invoked your name, yet they still opposed me again and again. They obviously don’t take you seriously at all, Cousin!”
“And that old bastard Mo Shenglin! In front of so many people, he openly took their side, completely disregarding your dignity and Uncle’s! If I don’t avenge this grudge, I’ll never be able to live with myself!”
Zhao Zijin stood beside the table, tears streaming down his face. His eyes were filled with resentment, and he ground his teeth as he spoke. Whenever he reached the painful parts of the story, he looked as though he could devour someone alive.
The young man seated before him wore a brocade robe and a jade crown. His features carried a distinctly heroic air. He was none other than Feng Chuan, one of the top three disciples of the Immortal Radiance Sect.
“You couldn’t even pull off such a simple frame-up, and now that you’ve been caught red-handed, you still have the nerve to complain? You’ve made a complete fool of yourself. You’re utterly useless!”
Feng Chuan cast Zhao Zijin a disdainful glance and spoke coldly.
“If my father hadn’t personally intervened to protect you this time, your cultivation would already have been crippled and you would have been expelled from the sect. How could you still be standing here spouting nonsense?”
Zhao Zijin’s face flushed, but he did not dare argue. His sobs quieted considerably, and he lowered his head.
“I… I was being foolish, Cousin. Your scolding is justified. But I never expected them to be so cunning…”
“You still dare talk back?”
Feng Chuan’s voice grew colder. Zhao Zijin immediately fell silent, not daring to say another word.
“If you want someone to blame, blame your own stupidity! Being stupid would be one thing, but you actually thought everyone else was just as stupid as you!”

“You’re a pig, do you know that? You messed things up and still have the nerve to complain, and now you want revenge? If I’d known this would happen, I would have stopped my father from letting you leave the mountain gate and sent you off to beg for scraps!”
Zhao Zijin trembled beneath the abuse. Realizing the precariousness of his situation, he did not dare speak and meekly endured Feng Chuan’s tirade.
Feng Chuan continued berating him for a while. Whether he had finally exhausted his anger or Zhao Zijin’s cowardly appearance had simply left him with little desire to continue, he eventually snorted and looked out the window.
“For the time being, keep your head down and conduct yourself properly as a disciple. Forget about revenge for now.”
“Yes…”
Though unwilling, Zhao Zijin had no other choice but to accept it.
But then Feng Chuan’s tone shifted, a trace of chill entering his voice.
“Lately, I’ve heard other disciples say that Zhang Yi has been enjoying considerable attention. Violet Spirit has even gone to the outer sect several times specifically to see him. Is that true? Do you know what’s really going on?”
Zhao Zijin froze, then his face lit up with delight as he struggled to suppress his excitement.
“Yes! It’s true. I saw it with my own eyes!”
“Moreover, on the second day after Zhang Yi joined the sect, Senior Sister went to find him outside his residence. The two of them even left the outer sect together. Who knows where they went…”
“After that, Elder Mo Shenglin assigned Zhang Yi to the medicinal herb garden, and he was given a substantial reward—there was even a magical artifact among it! An outer-sect disciple receiving such rewards must have something to do with Senior Sister!”
Zhao Zijin had long known that his cousin Feng Chuan was infatuated with Senior Sister Violet Spirit and would never tolerate anyone else laying a hand on her. After hearing all this, there was no way he could remain calm.
Sure enough, when Feng Chuan heard those words, his hair began to move despite the absence of wind, and the temperature in the room visibly dropped.
“Heh. What a Zhang Yi.”
His voice was icy, filled with murderous intent.
Before Zhao Zijin could continue adding fuel to the fire, the aura around Feng Chuan suddenly receded. He turned and walked to the window, gazing outside.
“However, the Immortal Radiance Sect is an upright and reputable sect. Fratricide is strictly forbidden. Even I cannot attack him directly while we are within the sect.”
“So there’s something I want you to do…”
With that, he took a jade bottle from the storage pouch at his waist and handed it to Zhao Zijin.
