Chapter 53: Vivienne's Magical Variations

In order to recover more lingering souls, it was also quite necessary to enhance Vivian's strength.
Ron intended to teach Vivian more magic.
However, he had to be extremely cautious about this.
It now appeared that Vivian's physique not only affected the magic she cast, but even the skills she utilized were influenced to varying degrees.
At the very least, Ron had no idea beforehand that the Charm spell could also be cast on buildings.
The crucial part was that not only did Vivian charm the mage tower, but she also made it develop self-awareness, causing the tower to self-detonate out of overwhelming affection.
Though it felt quite abstract at the time, upon reflection afterward, this was undoubtedly a formidable skill.
Since Vivian could charm a mage tower covered in defensive magic arrays into her own loyal servant, could she also charm castles and palaces into her personal servants to fight for her?
Thinking along these lines, the potential of this spell became unimaginably vast.
Buildings were unlike humans; they could not mount targeted defenses against specific types of magic—and even if they did, those defenses wouldn't be tailored against charm.
Furthermore, once a building was charmed, ordinary people would have no idea how to lift the effect. Standard purification magic had no effect on structures; after all, who would ever expect a building to be susceptible to charm?
Unfortunately, Vivian herself would likely never be able to master this type of charm spell normally—whenever she tried to use charm, she would only end up charming herself.
As for Ron's "self" series of abilities, the option of charm simply did not exist within it—if he truly wanted someone charmed, he would usually resort to directly slipping them a love potion.
He would need to find an opportunity for Vivian to cross paths with Sela again in order to poach the Charm spell from her.
This was the quickest method Ron could think of.
Driven by extreme affection, Sela was already uncontrollably rushing toward Vivian's location.
Vivian practiced with utmost diligence, earnestly training in every single spell Ron taught her.
["Why won't Master allow me to practice magic inside the mage tower?" Vivian cast a self-freezing spell upon herself.]
[Accompanied by the flickering of the incantation, the spell automatically jumped onto a nearby rabbit that was peacefully grazing on grass.]
[Because Vigafate forbade Vivian from practicing magic inside the mage tower, she had no choice but to run out to the outskirts of Parave City.]
[Naturally so, as who knew if Vivian might end up destroying Vigafate's mage tower as well.]
[Not far away, the laughter of young girls continuously drifted over.]
[The news that Vigafate was going to disband her students had already been communicated to the girls, and they were currently holding a farewell tea party and outing.]
[With a wave of her staff, the frozen rabbit flew straight toward Vivian.]
[This was a minor, clever application of the Gale Spell.]

To be honest, aside from her physique which made all magic turn out bizarrely, Vivian could actually be considered a magic prodigy.
Her genius was not reflected in the cultivation of mana, but rather in her conceptualization of magic usage and her precise control over spells.
The Gale Spell—the group windstorm magic taught to her by Ron—had already been developed into two variant applications after Vivian mastered it proficiently.
The first was the trick she performed last time when falling from a high altitude: utilizing the characteristic of the storm to gather around her, wrapping herself within it. It could serve both as defense and as a clearing mechanism during a charging offense.
The second was just like what she did a moment ago: lowering the output of mana while increasing the precision of the storm, causing the wind to sweep up a target object and blow it right into Vivian's hands.
In truth, there were many spells in normal magic capable of achieving similar effects, but Vivian was simply incapable of using normal magic!
Thus, she had no choice but to develop them herself.
This method of transforming a spell's techniques to acquire entirely new functions had a professional term known as "magic variation."
This was also one of the primary pathways for developing new magic.
Vivian had no idea that she was already in the midst of creating entirely new spells.
It had to be said that the Gale Spell remained remarkably powerful; as long as she increased her mana output, Vivian could leverage it to lift even heavier objects.
It was just a pity that due to her peculiar physique, she could only control these objects to blow outward or blow toward herself, lacking the ability to transport an object from one location to another.
Vivian attached great importance to this technique.
Her plan was to immobilize enemies with control magic in the future, and then use this spell to blow the enemies right in front of her so she could bash them to death with a single club.
This way, she would save herself the time of running over for close-quarters combat.
I became a mage specifically to fight elegantly from a distance; having to engage in melee combat every single time simply did not align with the style of a true archmage.
["Vivian, are you really not coming with us to the Imperial Capital?" Seeing Vivian return with the rabbit, Lolly was the first to speak.]
[Grella, who had previously been holding forth in a loud voice, immediately lowered her volume, her ears twitching as if intently listening to the conversation between Vivian and Lolly.]
[Upon her return, Vigafate had arranged different magic academies for her students based on their individual traits.]
[Lolly and Grella had been recommended by Vigafate to the Imperial Capital Magic Academy.]
[Lolly had originally assumed that Vivian would be going along with them.]
[Vivian shook her head: "You know my constitution, Lolly. I wouldn't learn anything in a magic academy anyway."]
[Lolly lowered her head in visible disappointment.]
[“If you don't pursue higher education, it will be quite difficult to find a good job afterward,” Grella walked over, seemingly acting casually. “What do you plan to do next? A mercenary? Or an independent mage?”]
[Vivian pulled out the Hero Badge: “A Hero.”]

[Grella clearly had not expected Vivian's reply, but after snapping out of her shock, she almost instantly grabbed the hand with which Vivian was holding the badge.]
[“Are you out of your mind!” Grella pressed her lips together, her expression turning somewhat unsightly. “To become a hero at a time like this! Do you have any idea that a Demon General has already emerged from the Abyss? Registered heroes like you have a mandatory obligation to crusade against the Demon Gods!”]
[Grella could not bear to watch the friend she cared about plunge headlong into such danger.]
[“It’s fine!” Vivian flashed a row of white teeth. “A mere Demon God is nothing!”]
[As long as Ron was pieced back together again, killing a Demon God would be as easy as taking candy from a baby!]
[Ron the Mad Demon King was someone who could even defeat the Creator Goddess!]
[Though the world called you the Mad Demon King, Vivian believed you were definitely a good person.]
Ahem... This was elevating me a bit too high.
If there were genuine danger, I would definitely run away.
Thinking this, Ron fell into deep contemplation as he looked at the map displayed on his computer screen.
This was a map of the magical world he had drawn based entirely on his own memories.
Although as long as Vivian began her travels with him, those lingering souls would spontaneously drift toward him, Ron still intended to arrange a specific route for Vivian.
He also wanted to revisit the places where he had once fought to see if there might be any other women, especially clues and traces of Estelle.
This was an idea that arose after he was provoked by Vigafate.
Ever since she left that day, Vigafate had never appeared again.
He wondered if he had truly managed to anger her.
Melia indeed disliked it when he made off-color, risqué jokes.
["Vivian, since we are both going to travel far away, we should go home and visit," Lolly said to Vivian.]
[Vivian had precisely the same intention.]
[Embarking on this journey, she had no idea when she would be able to return home again, so a visit beforehand was indeed necessary.]
Seeing these lines of text, Ron withdrew his gaze, intending to ponder and write out the subsequent plot regarding the mage tower.
Vivian's home was located in a tranquil village; surely nothing eventful could possibly happen over there.
