Volume 1, Chapter 40: Disappearance
Meng Tingfeng woke up feeling as though every bone in her body were aching and about to fall apart. The wounds she had previously sustained had scabbed over and were itching, and she could still smell the pungent odor of eggs and vegetable scraps clinging to her.
She blinked and looked around.
Where was this?
Everything was pitch black; she could not even see her own hand in front of her face. As she moved slightly, she heard the familiar sound of iron chains.
Clatter, clatter.
Meng Tingfeng frowned. She remembered parting ways with Blacksmith Liu and losing consciousness just as she reached the corner of the alley. Before she blacked out, she had only caught a glimpse of a dark, somber robe.
Who on earth had kidnapped her?
The answer came quickly.
The place where she sat suddenly shook violently...
The young man who dared to venture here wore an expression of disbelief. Upon seeing Jiang Heng’s appearance, his body trembled, but a gleam of joy soon ignited in his eyes as he looked at the sword in Jiang Heng’s hand.
These ghouls were capable of powerful leaps; the moment she attempted to engage her fire wings to carry Mu Zixun, these ravenous monsters would immediately pounce.
In any case, it was shameless—stealing her original body and bullying her while she was still weak was absolutely atrocious.
"This Huaiyang Prefecture looks prosperous enough, but I wonder if there’s anything actually fun to do here," Zhang Qifeng muttered.
"Understood. If there is nothing else, I shall take my leave," the Blue Dragon Priest nodded.
Feng Yingying frowned deeply, shifting her gaze from her mother to Li Mingyi.
Li Mingyi felt a bit embarrassed; he popped a meatball into his mouth and then awkwardly drank a glass of wine by himself.
She had always been sensitive to the cold. In winter, she would feel icy from head to toe while lying in bed. Later, after being sold to the Lin family, she rarely woke up shivering in the winter anymore, because her husband was like a giant furnace.
Seeing Shi Yuan’s previous state had left him feeling deeply terrified. Under such circumstances, he had no choice but to forcibly steady his own mind.
One day, she too would be able to sit in a sedan chair just like Princess Anguo, receiving the kowtows of everyone and enjoying supreme honor.
"Liuxing, your 'chunibyo' is acting up again. It’s time you got treated," the voice of the long-absent Serpent of Festivals suddenly remarked.
He couldn't afford to miss out on meeting his old flame, that bewitching young lady! "Perhaps you’re right, you did well."
Tired and hungry, she lay limply on the bed, her legs numb and her body so stiff she couldn't move. Her hatred for Lian Yue deepened even further.
Regardless, it was Wang Yuyan's own decision. Furthermore, given their current predicament, they had no choice but to accept Qin Tianchen’s kindness.
Was it not? Many people on the scene, including members of the Lin clan, had eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment.
Those simple words were enough to leave Li Yi so shocked he couldn't speak. While the First-Generation Great Heavenly Demon Emperor was indeed terrifying, based on the intensity of the battle between Li Yi and the Emperor, he didn't seem quite strong enough to slaughter every god and demon in the entire chaotic void single-handedly, did he?
"How are the deployments in each theater?" Chiang Kai-shek felt the cheers from outside the car window. This was the only parade he had attended where he didn't worry about problems arising, though, at this critical juncture, his focus was no longer on the War of Resistance.
After Gu Huaitian came out of the restroom and learned that Hao Yan had already left, he couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. He nodded and went to the living room to watch television.
"Feng Wu, do you know something? Why do you have such powerful confidence and trust in Mr. Qin so implicitly?" the Azure Dragon Clan Leader asked, casting an surprised look at the Phoenix Clan Leader.
It had taken great effort to wait for that fickle and inscrutable god, Feng Chi, to leave of his own accord. To her dismay, not even ten minutes of peace had passed before that same inscrutable god called her again.
They felt helpless, able only to watch as He Qingfan was dragged into this storm from within the family—a sudden, silent battle without smoke or fire.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than Wu Xue charged out like a leopard, her muzzle aimed ahead. A thunderous explosion followed...
By evening, when the driver dropped them off at the banquet hall, most of those participating in the victory celebration had already arrived.
Immediately after, Jiang Chengce slowly leaned toward Nangong Yu and said, with agonizing slowness: "I am the very pain of your Nangong Clan!" Having said this, Jiang Chengce released Nangong Yu’s arm.
Yet, no matter how many people the enemy had, Wang Nanbei was fearless. Moreover, after taking down his last opponent, he had scavenged all their ammunition. Those grenades and bullets alone would be enough to give the enemy a hard time.
The youth brushed the dust from his tight white Daoist robe and stomped his white "carefree" boots. He let out a soft sigh before continuing on his way.
Lin Yi’s mood was already at its lowest, and when she saw that the person who had bumped into her was none other than Kim So-yeon, she instantly flared up.
Seeing the body fall, the soldiers were all stunned. But for only a fleeting moment; their hands transformed into alloy blades, and they closed in to surround them.
Because the monster genes could only alter their physical structure and could not provide a powerful energy source.
The Fire God’s Melt-Core flew with the others to a secluded forest and jumped down from the air. "This is the place." After speaking, he looked around.
The vicious wolf seemed to think the same, and it pounced without hesitation. However, the exact moment it leaped, the Ghost-Faced Daoist suddenly exerted force with his feet, kicking a pile of snow directly into the wolf’s face.
Ever since last time, Liu Li had not appeared. Chen Yi was deeply worried. Although Liu Li had said she was fine, Chen Yi remained anxious, fearing that the time they shared eating breakfast together might vanish.
Could they really be considered divorced in this state? Their relationship was even more intimate now than it had been before the divorce.
