Chapter 36: Restoring the Ice Soul Sword Canon

When Li Haizhu saw that neither of them answered, he raised an eyebrow.
“What? You refuse to accept the punishment? In that case, I’ll have no choice but to report this to the academy and have you both expelled.”
At that, Chu Tianchen hurriedly put on a smile.
“Teacher Li, I was wrong. I willingly accept the punishment,” Chu Tianchen said.
“I... I know I was wrong too,” Lin Shengbin replied, though his mouth was burning with pain.
If he were expelled from Yunhai Academy on his very first day—even if the humiliation fell only on him, Youhuang Ancient City would be disgraced along with him.
By then, even killing Chu Tianchen would not be enough to restore their honor.
Besides, he believed that he had merely been caught off guard by Chu Tianchen’s sneak attack. Once they left the Divine Ability Pavilion, he could kill him whenever he pleased.
What he could not understand was why Li Haizhu was showing such obvious favoritism toward Chu Tianchen.
Just as Chu Tianchen was about to leave, his gaze was suddenly drawn to a scroll behind Lin Shengbin.
A faint, ancient aura emanated from the scroll. More importantly, it carried the chill of ice.
Chu Tianchen walked straight toward Lin Shengbin, who was lying on the ground. Lin Shengbin’s pupils immediately widened in terror.
“Chu Tianchen, do you want to be expelled from Yunhai Academy?”
Lin Shengbin hurriedly shouted.
Seeing his terrified expression, Chu Tianchen gave an inwardly amused smile and kicked him aside.
Then he picked up the incomplete scroll from the floor.
“The abilities recorded here are all incomplete. I was just about to take them away for destruction,” Li Haizhu quickly explained as he approached.
Chu Tianchen examined the seven or eight incomplete abilities in the corner. In the end, apart from the ice-attribute technique in his hand—the Ice Soul Sword Canon—none of them caught his interest.
“Teacher Li, since these are all going to be destroyed, may I take the Ice Soul Sword Canon with me?” Chu Tianchen asked.
“They’re all garbage. If you want them, take them all,” Li Haizhu said with a smile.
At that moment, Lin Shengbin had quietly reached the staircase. He was about to register the ability he had chosen when Li Haizhu’s smile suddenly vanished. He strode straight over.
“Lin Shengbin, what do you think you’re doing?”
“Do you take my punishment for a joke, or do you think the rules of Yunhai Academy are child’s play?”
“You are forbidden from entering the Divine Ability Pavilion for three months. Get out!”
Li Haizhu’s roar left everyone present stunned.

“Teacher Li, I’m the son of the lord of Youhuang Ancient City. Please show Youhuang Ancient City some consideration. I promise I will...” Lin Shengbin said with an ugly expression.
“Even the lord of Youhuang Ancient City has to follow the rules when he comes here.”
“Leave the techniques behind. You, get out.”
“If you want to borrow one, come back in three months.”
Li Haizhu cut him off directly.
“Then why is he allowed to take that Ice Soul Sword Canon?”
“Li Haizhu, don’t tell me you’re abusing your authority for personal reasons!”
Lin Shengbin frowned at once.
“Fuck your mother!”
“I, Li Haizhu, have been guarding this pavilion for three years. The only reason I’ve lasted this long is because I uphold fairness and impartiality.”
“You can have everything left over there. Take it all!”
Li Haizhu exploded in fury.
He strode forward and kicked Lin Shengbin, sending him tumbling back into the corner.
“Are your ears only for decoration? Didn’t you hear me say that these are all garbage meant for destruction?”
Li Haizhu continued berating him.
Lin Shengbin lay sprawled on the ground, his fists clenched tightly as tears once again slipped from his eyes.
“Chu Tianchen. Li Haizhu.”
“I, Lin Shengbin, swear that you will both die miserable deaths!”
He swore it inwardly.
Neither Chu Tianchen nor Li Haizhu even spared him another glance.
Chu Tianchen exchanged a look with Li Haizhu, who patted him three times on the shoulder.
“Go on,” Li Haizhu said with a smile.
His attitude toward Chu Tianchen was completely different from the way he had treated Lin Shengbin.
If the two of them had no connection whatsoever, who present would believe it?
Lin Shengbin was unable to voice his grievance.
Only after Chu Tianchen had left did he slink away as well.
On his very first day at Yunhai Academy—and in the outer院 no less—he had disgraced himself beyond all measure.
Watching Chu Tianchen’s departing figure, Li Haizhu’s lips curved into a faint smile.
He had clearly witnessed the palm strike Chu Tianchen had just used against Lin Shengbin.

Although Chu Tianchen had used the Thunderclap Palm, judging from the way he had exerted his strength, he had not yet mastered the technique completely. This meant that he had only just learned it.
It was even possible that he had learned it after merely taking a casual glance at it moments ago.
If his guess was correct, then Chu Tianchen was simply a martial arts prodigy.
Even if he was mistaken, it would not affect what had happened today. After all, it was Chu Tianchen’s guidance that had allowed him to suddenly comprehend the Thunderclap Palm. In a way, he had merely repaid Chu Tianchen’s favor.
Carrying the Ice Soul Sword Canon, Chu Tianchen returned directly to the dormitory.
At that moment, Wang Teng and the other two had yet to return.
Unable to wait any longer, he eagerly unrolled the sword canon. Instantly, an ancient aura rushed toward him.
Chu Tianchen immediately extended his soul power into the scroll.
After a long while, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly. If this incomplete Ice Soul Sword Canon were whole, it would be at least an Earth-grade technique.
With the Dragon Emperor’s inheritance and his current understanding of martial and sword cultivation, he could not possibly be mistaken.
The reason others had dismissed it as garbage was that the version in his hands contained only the middle portion. The beginning and the end were both missing.
Relying on his comprehension of the sword, Chu Tianchen began reconstructing it.
With the Dragon Emperor’s inheritance, two rebirths, and his gradually awakening bloodline, his comprehension now truly bordered on the heavenly.
For an ordinary person, reconstructing an Earth-grade technique would be extraordinarily difficult even after reaching the Land Immortal realm.
Only someone who had attained the Unity of Sword and Dao—and possessed the right opportunity—could accomplish such a feat.
After spending four or five hours on it, Chu Tianchen finally reconstructed three stages of the Ice Soul Sword Canon.
Initial Stage: Awakening of the Ice Soul.
Intermediate Stage: Frostlight Slash.
Advanced Stage: Frozen Sword Domain.
According to his understanding, there were still two stages beyond these. However, with his current ability, he could only reconstruct it to this extent.
Even so, the three stages alone came as a tremendous surprise.
Awakening of the Ice Soul was equivalent to a high-grade Yellow-level technique. Frostlight Slash was equivalent to a low-grade Profound-level technique, while Frozen Sword Domain was at least comparable to a mid-grade Profound-level technique, and perhaps even a high-grade one.
Once he had mastered these three stages, he could slowly reconstruct the remaining two.
For now, what he needed to do was go to Yunhai City and find himself a suitable sword.
He checked the time. Night had already fallen, yet Wang Teng and the other two still had not returned. He had no idea where Wang Teng had taken them.
Chu Tianchen sat cross-legged in the dormitory, took out several origin stones, and cultivated for several hours, until the third watch of the night.
Only then did he rise and leave the dormitory.
The direction he headed in was the Divine Ability Pavilion he had visited during the day.
Before leaving, Li Haizhu had patted him three times on the shoulder. Combined with that meaningful look in his eyes, the message had been obvious:
Meet at the third watch.
