Chapter 18: Not Letting Me Join the Swim? Wait Till I Reveal My Identity—You'll Be Terrified!
Watching Wang Xiaoming approach their coach, the swimming team members quietly slipped over as well. Meanwhile, Zhao An sent a text to their own coach, saying they were training with the swimming team and there was no need to worry.
Wang Xiaoming had already found the swimming coach and introduced himself. Wang Mu looked at the young man before him—the one who had won five gold medals for China—and couldn’t help but smile.
“Wang Xiaoming, I know you. You’re really famous now. I was actually thinking of asking for your autograph!”
Hearing the compliment, Wang Xiaoming only smiled and then explained his purpose. “Hello, Coach Wang. The swimming team competition is in a couple of days, right?”
“Yes, that’s right. Are you here to cheer us on?”
Wang Xiaoming shook his head. “No, I’m here to compete.”
“You’re going to compete?” Wang Mu was surprised, and all the team members nearby were shocked as well.
“Wow, Ming, you’re really going to join the swimming competition!”
“Ming, that’s quite a leap across fields, isn’t it?”
“Swimming is completely different from shooting!”
The crowd murmured in disagreement, basically telling Wang Xiaoming not to think about it.
Coach Wang Mu chuckled. “Wang Xiaoming, this kind of crossover is unprecedented. Besides, your name isn’t even on the swimming team list. How can you compete...?”
“No way my name’s not there. Coach, please check again!”
Wang Mu shook his head but suddenly stopped. He recalled someone mentioning this before they left for Paris, but he had been too busy compiling the athletes’ data to pay attention and had completely forgotten about it.
But now that Wang Xiaoming was here, it all came back to him. He quickly pulled out the roster.
Under the substitute players section, there it was: “Wang Xiaoming.”
It was really there.
Wang Mu was stunned. What was going on? Who was this Wang Xiaoming that he was competing in shooting and now wanted to compete in swimming? Could he be extraordinarily talented in swimming as well?
Yet, Wang Mu glanced at Wang Xiaoming’s slender and tall frame—it didn’t look like the physique of someone with explosive power.
Shooting and swimming were completely different disciplines—one static, one dynamic.
“Hm... your name is indeed on the substitute list!” Wang Mu put the roster away.
This revelation left the swimmers around utterly bewildered. The five-time shooting gold medalist really had a spot in the swimming competition!
How had that happened?
Wang Mu asked, “Which event do you want to compete in?”
Unexpectedly, Wang Xiaoming said, “There should be about a dozen swimming events, right?”
“Yes!”
“I want to compete in all of them!”
Pan Zhanle, who was drinking water, suddenly sprayed it out.
An instant silence fell over the room.
Coach Wang Mu, seemingly not catching what Wang Xiaoming said, asked again, “Sorry, what was that? I didn’t hear clearly...”
Pan Zhanle quickly blurted out, “Coach, Ming said he wants to compete in every swimming event!”
“Are you kidding?” Wang Mu rolled his eyes. “Do you think you’re Superman? You wouldn’t have the strength to swim two events, let alone all of them!”
But Wang Xiaoming was resolute. “I’m not joking. I’m competing in all the events.”
As for stamina?
Sorry, during a mission in the rainforest, Wang Xiaoming had acquired a skill:
“Gatorade Level Max: Greatly increases stamina cap and reduces stamina consumption!”
When he got this skill, Wang Xiaoming had thought sarcastically: “Gatorade, how much do they pay you? My brand doubles their effect!”
So, he wasn’t worried about losing energy from competing in too many events. It was nothing.
But Wang Mu didn’t share that confidence.
“That’s impossible! You’re just messing around! Nobody does that!”
Clearly, he didn’t agree with Wang Xiaoming.
Wang Xiaoming could only shrug. “That’s exactly what I’m doing. Didn’t I just compete in shooting events back to back?”
“And coach, don’t you want the Chinese swimming team to achieve a grand slam?”
Coach Wang Mu laughed and patted Wang Xiaoming on the shoulder. “Xiaoming, your shooting skills are top-notch, but listen to me—swimming and shooting are two different worlds. If you win even one gold medal in swimming, you’d already be among the best. A grand slam... that’s another story.”
The swimmers nearby watched this exchange like a show, sipping water and chatting. Their words carried no disrespect, but they were full of doubt and disbelief.
Wang Xiaoming tried to say more, but Wang Mu waved him off.
The shooting team members nearby sneered, thinking this was a dead end for Ming.
Just as everyone assumed Wang Xiaoming’s plan would fail, two figures appeared at the training center’s entrance—the shooting team’s two coaches.
They briskly approached, greeted the group, exchanged some pleasantries, and inquired about the situation.
Then they pulled Wang Mu aside and said, “Old Wang, you should let Wang Xiaoming compete.”
This left Wang Mu and the swimmers completely baffled.
“Old Wu, Old Xu, your team’s player is causing trouble, and you coaches have been at this for years and still act like this?”
“Don’t think just because your shooting team has won so many gold medals, you can do whatever you want!”
But Coaches Wu and Xu quietly pulled Wang Mu into a corner to talk.
Pan Zhanle and the others were shocked. What was going on? The shooting coaches had personally come as advocates?
Just to get Wang Xiaoming into the swimming competition?
They only saw Coach Wang Mu’s face turn pale with shock before he looked up and nodded seriously.
“What you’re saying is, Wang Xiaoming…”
“Right, so whatever he wants to do, don’t interfere!”
“What exactly is his identity...?”
“We don’t know either. It’s classified information! If we told you, you’d be scared to death!”
“Could he be a secret agent trained by the state?”
“Who knows? Just make sure to add his name to the list!”
“Alright then...”
Seeing their coach stunned and then nodding at the shooting coaches, everyone understood what was happening.
Pan Zhanle, unable to hold back, blurted out, “Hey, Ming, whose son are you really? Here to experience life?”
Wang Xiaoming had yet to respond when Zhao An spoke up for him, “Ming’s just an ordinary college student!”
“He usually pays his tuition with scholarships! During holidays, he works part-time to help support his family!”
The entire room went silent, utterly dumbfounded.
