Sumai said coldly, “I just want to tell you, don’t think your boss giving you a phone means he likes you! Meng Yanli is about to get engaged, are you trying to be the other woman by seducing him? Su Wan, you’re really despicable!”

Su Wan’s face flushed with anger.

“When did I ever seduce my boss? Sumai, I don’t want to argue with you. Just give me back my phone!”

She didn’t want to keep entangled with this malicious mother and daughter duo; she just wanted her phone back.

“Why should I give it to you? The phone isn’t even yours!” Sumai suddenly pushed her away.

Su Wan stumbled and nearly fell. Once steady, she lunged forward again to snatch it.

Fearing her daughter would lose out, Zhao Lan also came over to help.

As the three of them struggled, the door suddenly opened. Zhao Lan immediately stepped aside.

After all, as an elder, she had to maintain appearances.

In came the eldest brother, Su Zhiwen. Seeing his beloved little sister being bullied, he rushed over to help.

He shoved Su Wan hard to the ground.

“Su Wan, have you gone mad? You’re trying to snatch Sumai’s phone too? Do you have no shame?”

“That’s my phone!”

“Oh, your phone?” The stepmother sneered mockingly, “Such an expensive phone — can you even afford it?”

Su Wan bit back the pain and stood up coldly.

“Aunt Zhao, you know well enough this phone was a gift. I never intended to keep it. I’ve already bought a new one, so this phone has to be returned.”

She hoped this woman would show some reason.

Unexpectedly, the stepmother sneered, “You’d return it? Not a chance!”

Eldest brother frowned. “What nonsense are you talking? Who would give you such an expensive phone?”

He knew no wealthy person was close enough to Su Wan.

Sumai blurted out, “It was Meng Yanli! Brother, she actually seduced her own boss!”

The eldest brother was stunned. “Su Wan works at Meng Yanli’s company?”

Su Wan looked at them thoughtfully.

Why was her brother so tense? Did he know Meng Yanli? But she had never heard them mention him before.

“Su Wan, you actually seduced Meng Yanli, don’t you know—”

“Zhiwen!” The stepmother called sharply.

The eldest brother immediately shut up.

Su Wan saw it all and felt this family was hiding something from her.

But she knew asking wouldn’t get her any answers.

Right now, she just wanted her phone back.

“Give me back my phone!”

Seeing her persistence, Zhao Lan finally spoke, “Meimei, it’s just a phone. Let’s not make a fuss. Mom will buy you a new one another day.”

Soon to be married into a wealthy family, the daughter would have endless money; a broken phone was nothing.

This was a critical time; it was best not to cause trouble.

The eldest brother seemed to understand the relationship and said to Sumai, “Little sister, I’ll buy you a new one tomorrow.”

Though reluctant, Sumai had to return the phone since both mother and brother said so.

“Take it, I don’t care!”

Su Wan reached out to take it.

Before touching the phone, Sumai suddenly let go.

With a slap, the phone fell to the floor.

She hurried to pick it up.

Though still usable, the screen was cracked.

Her eyes reddened as she rushed over and grabbed Sumai’s arm. “You went too far! You owe me a new phone!”

Sumai looked innocent, tears in her eyes. “Brother, you saw it. I already gave her the phone. She just slipped—”

Su Zhiwen’s view was blocked so he hadn’t seen clearly. But he firmly believed Sumai was innocent and that Su Wan was deliberately causing trouble.

His little sister had always been obedient, but Su Wan was rebellious.

He pulled Su Wan away angrily. “You didn’t catch it properly and blame Sumai? Don’t think she’s weak and easy to bully—she has me, her big brother, backing her up!”

The second brother returned and, without knowing the details, immediately sided with Sumai. “Little sister, don’t be afraid. I’ll protect you too…”

Su Wan was so furious she felt like spitting blood.

What kind of bizarre brothers were these? All blind—better to just donate their eyes!

Sumai weak? What a joke!

But Su Wan knew if she kept fighting, she’d only lose.

Going upstairs, she noticed the stepmother’s mocking expression.

At the stairwell corner, she faintly heard Sumai complaining, “Mom, Su Wan went too far, she actually seduced—”

“Enough, stop it…” Zhao Lan immediately cut her off.

Su Wan frowned.

Was she imagining things, or were they really hiding something from her?

The next day.

At the CEO’s office.

Looking at the phone on the desk, Meng Yanli’s face darkened.

“Are you sure you want to return this to me?”

Su Wan nodded. “My friend gave it back to me. I’ve already bought a new phone, so I’m returning this one.”

She told the truth. “I accidentally damaged the screen, but it’s been repaired. If you need compensation, just tell me the amount, and I’ll transfer it immediately.”

Meng Yanli said coolly, “Alright, noted. You may leave.”

“Okay, Mr. Meng.” Su Wan left.

Meng Yanli’s gaze lingered on the phone.

His dark eyes grew deep and cold.

If Shen Zhou knew he gave someone a gift only to have it returned, he’d probably laugh to death.

Lunchtime.

Han Wei felt sorry. “Su Wan, since Mr. Meng gave you the phone, why not just keep it? Returning it definitely made him lose face.”

Su Wan was taken aback.

“I thought he seemed calm. He didn’t say anything.”

“He wouldn’t show annoyance on his face. Mr. Meng is a business tycoon — he wouldn’t let you see his true feelings so easily.”

Hearing her friend, Su Wan suddenly felt worried. “Do you think he might fire me just to find an excuse?”

Her job was her biggest concern.

Han Wei rolled her eyes. “You’re silly. If Mr. Meng likes you enough to give you gifts, why would he fire you easily?”

Though she had never dated, as an observer she understood this much.

Su Wan frowned lightly. “Why bring that up again? I already said he’s getting engaged next week.”

“Ah, he really is getting engaged?” Han Wei felt a bit disappointed.

Su Wan was in deep trouble now. How wonderful it would be if Meng Yanli were the one who came riding on a rainbow cloud to marry her!

Then that family wouldn’t dare bully her anymore!

“He hasn’t gotten engaged yet, and it’s just an engagement. I think you could try being a little more proactive…”

Su Wan quickly interrupted, “Enough! Meng Yanli is just my boss. There’s nothing between us.”

She knew her friend only listened because of the rumors at the company.

Meng Yanli was a good person, but they lived in completely different worlds.

They would never be together in this lifetime.

“Why don’t you just tell him you’re the one who saved him that day…”

Su Wan frowned. “He’s about to get married. What would he think if I said that now?”

She warned her friend, “Not only can I not say it, you have to keep this a secret too, okay?”

Han Wei nodded reluctantly, “Alright, I’ll listen to you.”

Her friend seemed gentle but was actually stubborn. Once she made up her mind, it was hard to change it.

As a friend, she respected that.

Recently, the whole family had been busy.

Su Wan knew they were preparing for Sumai’s engagement.

Her third brother, Su Zhifeng, shamelessly asked her to help make a dress to wear to the engagement banquet.

Su Wan was speechless.

They never helped her when she had conflicts with the family, yet now they had the nerve to ask for help?

Still, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse and made the dress.

“Eight hundred.”

“What? You’re charging?” The third brother looked surprised.

Su Wan had never mentioned money before.

She said calmly, “I’m just charging cost. Buying one outside would cost thousands. If you think it’s too expensive, don’t buy it.”

“Fine, I’ll take it.” He knew she was being honest.

Reluctantly, the third brother transferred the money.

Su Wan casually asked, “When is Sumai’s engagement?”

She didn’t care before, but now seeing their secretive behavior, something felt off.

Sumai’s engagement was strange. If she were really dating a rich man, she would have shown off loudly.

But this sudden quiet engagement didn’t match her flamboyant character.

“This weekend. So you better hurry.” At first, the third brother was unguarded.

“Oh, who’s she marrying? Pretty sudden…”

The third brother suddenly became cautious and frowned. “Hey, you better not get involved. Anyway, little sister is about to marry into a wealthy family…”

Su Wan’s lips twitched.

They were clearly wary of her.

So protective — were they afraid she’d try to steal the groom?

This family was ridiculous!

The weekend.

Su Wan slept in.

When she got up, the whole family had left.

She immediately realized: today was Sumai’s engagement day!

She was stunned.

Mr. Meng’s engagement banquet seemed to be today too.

Was this really just a coincidence?
