Meng Yanli said calmly, “Fine, your resignation is approved.”
“Thank you, President Meng.”
Su Wan realized she didn’t feel relieved as expected.
Instead, there was a hint of reluctance.
She had to admit, President Meng had truly treated her well.
A few days ago, he not only let her attend classes by some renowned designers but also sent her to listen to lectures on marketing and financial management. He said that as his assistant, she needed to accumulate broader knowledge.
She found it very beneficial, her horizons expanding considerably.
Especially after attending the masters’ design classes, she felt immensely inspired and gained a wealth of ideas.
That was why she had so eagerly wanted to participate in the new brand development project previously.
Yet now, she had to leave this company. She doubted she would find such a good boss again.
Just as the door was closing, Meng Yanli suddenly said, “I was actually planning to have you join the new brand development project today. I didn’t expect you to resign…”
Su Wan’s hand froze.
She turned around abruptly, her eyes bright with surprise, “President Meng, you really agreed to let me join that project?”
Wanting to join that project and earn more money was only part of it. Deep down, she hoped to return to her true profession because she loved design passionately.
She wanted to create more beautiful clothes.
Unexpectedly, just as she was about to quit, President Meng suddenly agreed.
She was momentarily stunned, unsure what to do.
Meng Yanli’s lips curled faintly, an inscrutable emotion in his eyes.
“So, you still choose to leave?”
Su Wan bit her lip, caught in a dilemma.
Meng Yanli watched coldly.
He realized he was actually a little nervous.
Afraid she would say something he didn’t want to hear.
Rubbing his temples, he experienced a rare feeling of helplessness beyond his control.
It annoyed him.
He said coldly, “If you can’t make up your mind, let me decide for you! I advise you to leave quickly. I don’t want someone who isn’t clear about what they want staying in the company…”
His words were a wake-up call. Su Wan suddenly saw the truth.
Wasn’t this the opportunity she had always wanted? Why give it up?
Just because of a father-daughter bond that didn’t even exist?

No, she couldn’t be foolish any longer!
Even if she really resigned, her family would find all sorts of excuses to make things difficult for her, to bully her.
So she had to make herself strong first before having the ability to fight back against those who bullied her!
Having realized this, she felt enlightened.
She nodded firmly. “President Meng, could you give me another chance? I want to stay. I want to join the new brand development project. Is that possible?”
She looked at the man before her with hopeful eyes.
Hearing this, Meng Yanli was naturally pleased.
Yet his expression remained cool, as if granting a favor. “Alright, I’ll give you another chance.”
“Thank you, President Meng!” Su Wan said excitedly.
Meng Yanli said indifferently, “Don’t be too happy too soon. I said even if you join that project, you’ll still have to handle assistant duties on my side.”
Su Wan hesitated.
She truly worried about managing both roles.
“Oh? Can’t handle it?” The man raised an eyebrow, seemingly dissatisfied.
“I can. I can do it,” Su Wan hurried to reply.
This hard-earned opportunity was not something she would easily give up.
It was just more work. She could manage it by working overtime.
Meng Yanli took the bag from the cabinet that he had given her yesterday and placed it on the desk.
“Since I already gave it to you, I don’t intend to take it back.”
Su Wan was stunned and quickly shook her hand. “President Meng, I really can’t accept it!”
“If it’s because of what my mother said, don’t mind it. She doesn’t understand the situation.”
“President Meng, I think your mother’s concerns are valid. After all, Su Mei is my younger sister, and between us…”
“You mean to keep your distance?” Meng Yanli frowned.
Su Wan nodded, “Yes.”
Meng Yanli rose from his seat and slowly walked over to her.
He leaned in slightly.
The familiar crisp fragrance mixed with a faint tobacco scent wafted over. Su Wan blushed again.
Panicked, she stepped back but stumbled over the coffee table leg, losing her balance.
Meng Yanli caught her waist just in time, his magnetic voice sounding above her head, “Am I really that scary? Scared like that?”
Su Wan steadied herself and awkwardly said, “Not scared, just… worried about misunderstandings.”
She didn’t quite understand why this man treated her so well, especially since he didn’t even know she had saved him before.
Was it because she was Su Mei’s sister?

Someone pushed the door open.
Meng Yanli’s eyes darkened.
He thought it was that troublemaker Shen Zhou again, since only he dared to enter without knocking.
Just as he was about to lose his temper, he turned and saw his fiancée, Su Mei, and was momentarily stunned.
“What are you doing here?”
Su Wan hurriedly broke free from the man’s embrace, but it was too late.
Su Mei had witnessed the intimate scene, but unlike at home, she didn’t explode with anger.
After all, this was Meng Yanli’s company, and she didn’t dare act up.
She calmly walked to Meng Yanli’s side, linked her arm with his, and coquettishly said, “Yanli, I’m bored staying at home. How about I come work at your company?”
Meng Yanli frowned slightly. “You weren’t working before either. Just stay home properly now. If you need money, you can tell me.”
Su Wan didn’t want to be a third wheel and quietly moved toward the door.
But Su Mei came over and grabbed her hand, smiling brightly as she said to Meng Yanli, “My sister said she wanted to resign yesterday. Yanli, can I be your assistant from now on?”
Then she turned to Su Wan, her smile half teasing, “Right, sister? Did you tell Yanli about your resignation?”
Su Wan didn’t expect this sudden move and was momentarily speechless.
“Sis, you told the family last night you wanted to quit, saying you had a better place lined up, didn’t you?”
Su Mei secretly pinched the soft flesh of Su Wan’s hand, signaling her not to forget the promise made to their father last night.
Su Wan understood the hint well, but moments ago she had decided she couldn’t foolishly give up the best opportunity to improve herself just because of a nonexistent family bond.
She shrugged off Su Mei’s hand and said calmly, “I’m not planning to resign anymore. I think this company suits me well.”
Meng Yanli, unaware of the true situation, gave her a sidelong glance, feeling a touch of displeasure.
So the girl wanted to jump ship after all and had lied to him about just needing a break!
His cold eyes fixed on her, and he asked lightly, “Which company are you thinking of going to?”
He had heard from Director Zhou that Su Wan had won second place in a new designer competition before and was quite talented.
It was normal for such a promising person to be headhunted. He hadn’t considered this possibility before.
He had foolishly trusted her lies.
At this moment, he felt deceived!
Su Wan was taken aback.
She knew President Meng had misunderstood.
So she smiled, “President Meng, Su Mei was joking. I’m just a rookie. Finding a job isn’t that easy.”
Meng Yanli raised his eyebrow slightly, his expression unreadable. “Oh, is that so?”
