Chapter 16: The Handsome Stranger Delivers the Baby Bottle
Finally, there was milk to drink. The fennec fox kits wagged their tails joyfully like puppies, lining up neatly to be fed.
“This herder, Xiao, is really impressive—he arrived half an hour early. He must have been rushing nonstop.”
“The voice of this enthusiastic netizen sounds so pleasant and quite young too!”
“The station manager holding the little fox and spinning around is just adorable—so warm and soothing!”
While the five minutes of waiting passed, chaos erupted in Lin Zhou’s live stream. The three had already fought their way onto the screen, with high heels and bags flying everywhere, accompanied by Lin Zhou’s screams.
The scene was intense from start to finish. Xu Ying, thinking she would soon have to feed the fox kits and wouldn’t have time for online consultations, continued to watch the drama unfold.
Five minutes later, the roar of a motorcycle engine sounded outside.
“Sis! Someone’s arrived on a motorcycle!”
The fox kits’ airplane ears twitched excitedly, chirping happily.
“Great! I’ll go greet them!”
Xu Ying opened the door to see a sleek, brand-new, carbon-black desert motorcycle in her line of sight.
The man on the bike leaned sideways skillfully and stopped precisely at her doorstep.
He wore a black leather jacket and cargo pants, his broad shoulders and narrow waist complemented by impressively long limbs.
He removed his helmet, smoothing back the hair flattened beneath it.
Beneath the helmet was a sharp, handsome young face.
His skin, tanned from the sun, held a healthy olive tone. His bright phoenix-shaped eyes sparkled with energy.
His high, deep-set brows gave him a wild, untamed look, with his sword-like eyebrows slightly arching when he spoke.
The man took a backpack strapped to the motorcycle, slung it over his shoulder, and strode toward Xu Ying.
“Xu Ying?”
“That’s me! You’re Xiao the herder?”
Xu Ying waved enthusiastically, her lively eyes curving into a gentle smile.
Though the man looked like a cool guy, he seemed somewhat shy and introverted when greeting Xu Ying in person.
Meeting the crescent-shaped smile in her eyes, he softly responded, “Hello, my name is Qi Xiao.”
Viewers in the live stream went wild upon seeing the delivery was from an extraordinarily handsome, dark-skinned man.
“Wow, even with dark skin, he’s this handsome! Like the antelope prince from ‘Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf’!”
“This guy is at least ten thousand times better looking than Lin Zhou just now. Why doesn’t he show his face more often? He could easily have millions of followers just on looks alone!”
“Not only is he handsome, but he’s also wealthy—he owns thousands of acres of pasture. His assets must be worth tens of millions; he doesn’t have to scrape by.”
Qi Xiao noticed Xu Ying’s intense gaze lingering on his backpack and asked, pressing his lips slightly, “Is it okay if I come in?”
“Please, come in!”
Xu Ying led Qi Xiao into the rescue station.
The fennec fox kits peeked out from behind their travel crate, eyeing Qi Xiao curiously.
The youngest fox, Xiao Wu, flapped his ears excitedly: “Wow! Sis! He’s so handsome! Is he the kind-hearted person who’s bringing me milk?”
The third fox, probably a fan of good looks, wagged his tail eagerly: “Sis, I want this handsome guy to feed me~”
Xu Ying laughed and gently poked the third fox’s head. “You! So young and already lovestruck!”
The eldest fox, proud and cautious, asked warily: “Is he a good person or a bad one? Does he have ulterior motives?”
Xu Ying thought that was a reasonable concern. She decided to verify his identity and residence first.
Qi Xiao placed his backpack on the table and began pulling out supplies as if performing magic.
“This is fresh sheep’s milk from the pasture, sterilized.”
“This is powdered goat’s milk.”
“These are nipples, bottles, and feeding bowls—all new and sterilized before I came.”
“These are pet toys.”
Qi Xiao kept pulling out items one after another, and the fox kits’ eyes grew wide with amazement.
Though excited, the little foxes were well-behaved and stayed put, waiting for Xu Ying’s cue.
After unpacking the supplies, Xu Ying asked, “Qi Xiao, which nearby pasture do you come from?”
Qi Xiao handed her a folder containing various documents.
“These are my ID card, the pasture’s qualification certificates, and my membership card for the Qingfeng Rescue Team.”
“You can verify their authenticity with the viewers if you want.”
Xu Ying took the folder, a bit stunned. Despite his cool and aloof appearance, this kind-hearted man had thought of everything.
Qi Xiao nodded slightly, his face still expressionless and cool. “You look through these first. I’ll go prepare the milk for the little ones.”
With that, he busied himself with the bottles and powdered milk.
“Tha... thank you?” Xu Ying felt like she was the guest with such attentive help.
While she examined Qi Xiao’s documents, viewers in the live stream were already enthusiastically discussing his background.
“Whoa, a member of the Qingfeng Rescue Team—impressive!”
“What’s the Qingfeng Rescue Team? Please explain.”
“The Qingfeng Rescue Team is a purely charitable, volunteer rescue organization. Its members are all big shots—wealthy, with plenty of free time—and possess various professional rescue skills. Whenever there’s a major accident or disaster, they come to help without expecting anything in return.”
“They buy their own equipment, get certifications, and don’t charge—what’s in it for them?”
“Many wealthy people engage in charity and public welfare. The rescue team members give back through their actions, accumulating virtue. Once material needs are met, they pursue spiritual goals.”
“Wow, a quick search of Qi Xiao’s name shows reports of him participating in wildfire rescues and delivering supplies by motorcycle! Even more admirable! Little Xu, you can trust this guy!”
After reviewing Qi Xiao’s documents, Xu Ying felt deep respect. Though just three years older than herself, he had already earned numerous rescue certificates and awards.
“Qi Xiao, do you need any help?”
“No, you play with the little ones.”
“I’ll be done soon.”
Qi Xiao replied without looking up.
He handled the powdered milk with practiced care—measuring, mixing with hot water, testing the temperature—all meticulous and skilled, a stark contrast to his cold, profound expression.
Viewers in the live stream erupted into cheers.
“Making milk with that cool guy face—too perfect! Definitely husband material!”
“Amazing! Seeing him with Little Xu is such a treat. Cool guy and sweet girl feeding adorable little milk foxes—it’s sweeter than any drama!”
“Haha, if Ning Zexi saw this while buying milk powder, he’d probably have a meltdown.”
Soon, Qi Xiao handed Xu Ying the bottle filled with powdered goat’s milk and placed a bowl of warmed fresh milk near the travel crate.
The bottle’s temperature was just right, and the bowl on the floor held the warm fresh milk.
Xu Ying hurriedly returned the folder to Qi Xiao.
These documents were important and needed to be kept safe.
Not wanting him to misunderstand, she quickly added, “Thank you so much for your help. It’s not that I don’t trust you, but...”
“It’s okay.”
Qi Xiao raised his sword-like brows slightly as he put the folder away.
“You’re alone at the rescue station, so you have to be extra careful.”
“The delivery staff told me suspicious people have been spotted recently in the desert area.”
